Anyone got any ideas on this...

I removed the sway bar link nut with an impact socket and those ****ers have fused into one solid piece. I have dropped that ****er in the vice and have tried pounding the shit out of it with a screw driver. It has not budged. Would heating it possibly get it out? I have one of those mini torches but I am out of gas. Hate to throw money at this if I don't need to. It is a damn nut and socket...:cuss::cuss::cuss:

Heat the nut up with the torch until it starts turning red, imediately try and turn it. If that doesn't work then you're screwed

Oh yea, you may need to try moving it both directions before it will break loose.

Soak in antifreeze for 24 hours, then try to break it loose.

I will give the heat a try.

Heating the socket will ruin it.

Put it back on and tighten it back down and you can get the nut out usually

Are you sure your screwdriver is small enough to go all the way through the socket?

Yeah it is hitting the socket. I spent like an hour trying to get it out. Talk about a frustration level of 11.

Screw it in half way or so and beat the bejesus out of the socket.

Don't use heat.

I did try screwing it back on but it only goes on a little ways and the sway bar bolt part starts to spin. That isn't going to work either.

A few questions:

What color is this vehicle?

Are you buying or leasing?

Do you have TimBone on ignore? (asking for a friend)

That holds the nut and you beat on the socket

Best way to get it out is put it back on with the impact wrench. Sway bar should have a flat spot somewhere you can put a wrench on to keep it from spinning.

You would think, 90 % of the time you would be mistaken

If the socket high enough quality to wish to salvage?

If so, go to Home Depot and get a carriage bolt with the same threads and put it on a bench vise. Thread the nut onto it until all threads are engaged, and then beat the heck out of the socket with a urethane mallet from varying directions. If that doesn't work, put a solid [Matco, Craftsman] ratchet on it, then get a length of pipe you can sleeve over the ratchet for leverage. Then work the ratchet orthogonal to the loosening/tightening plane [ie, up/down].

If not high enough quality, take the nut to Home Depot and get a Grade V replacement.

When I was a teenager I went to go visit my cousin in a nearby town fairly often. One time his dad had been trying to get a stump out of the ground, but had given up for a while. He had a gigantic dog on a long chain. Some kind of mix between Black Lab and Hellspawn Demon Dog. So we wrapped one end of the chain around the stump and then I held the dog back while my cousin threw a stick in the back yard as far as he could. That dog went nuts trying to break free of me and I held it for a good thirty seconds until it yelped like it was in pain. Reflexively I released it fearing I was hurting the thing. It was just a trick and he immediately took off like a rocket. Well, when he got to the end of that chain it broke in three places. So don't use a dog to fix your problem. It probably won't work.

Not in the habit of trashing my tools.

Finally got that fucker out. I went to Home Depot this morning and purchased a metal rod that was just thick enough to fit up the center of the hole and about 3 foot long. Took it home and slammed it hard on the ground about 5 times and it came out. The top of the nut is all f'd up from me pounding on it with a screw driver. I swear whenever I do a project like this, everything that can go wrong will go wrong.

OK, well, glad you didn't have to try using the dog.
