We should dominate this game. It will suck though if career .194 hitter Drew Butera has to play instead of Salvy. Whatever came about from his wrist anyway?

We are doomed. Butera is one of the worst offensive catchers there is. I don't care that he's done well in limited at bats this year, it won't last.

Butera has a .775 OPS over 101 PAs, which isn't bad. For backup Cs, he's probably top 10 offensively.

I doubt it. He's just been fortunate in a limited number of at bats this year. He's looked good doing it, but it's like Orlando. You know he's not going to bat .330 much longer. In each of his last 7 years where Butera has had 85 - 225 ABs, he's had a batting avg of below .198 each and every time.

To think he's some how figured it out at 33 years old is foolish IMO.

Obviously, would much rather have Salvy in there. Escpecially in MN, where he has awesome numbers. But Drew hasn't been bad.

Against tonight's pitcher, Salvy is 3 for 25. And Drew is 2 for 3!
Drew got this.
Anyway, what can you do? Salvy had his wrist crushed. It's not like it's one of Ned's random days of rest.

When Salvy comes back he will pound 2 home runs. Mark it down. When he comes off of days rest, he is lethal.

Orlando is irrelevant to whether Butera is good backup catcher. You are putting expectations of a starting catcher onto Butera, which he isn't and he won't be.

Of MLB catchers with between 50 and 200 PAs this year, Butera's OPS is 9th. Perfectly acceptable.

Can we revive #Yosted?

Not sure why he would go with Soria and not Strahm when the game is that close.

One of these days Ned will realize that Soria at this point is no better than Aaron Crow.

Of course... it took Crow having a 9 ERA post ASB break and giving up a game losing Grand Slam that almost knocked us out of the playoffs before Ned stopped believing in him.

It's over. We won a road series and are right back where we were to start the week being 4 games back. Just winning series doesn't cut it anymore. There are just too many teams to jump.

And what still irks me the most is that despite all the injuries and bad July and inconsistent starting pitching the team has clawed back and played well enough to take a wild card at least, but Soria has single handedly removed any hope of that.

Statistically meaningless, especially in that small sample size.

The blown leads/games is far more significant.

That's 12 blown leads or ties for him this season I believe. With even half of those back we are positioning ourselves nicely for the playoffs. The media should excoriate Ned for Soria in the seventh.

Well....this is what I wrote, though I write for Kings of Kauffman so I'm not sure if you think I'm "media":

The Royals blew a golden opportunity to sweep the Twins Wednesday night due to the abject stupidity of manager Ned Yost. Due to his terrible choices in the seventh inning, the KC Royals bullpen blew their 4th game with a late-inning lead in their last 10 days. This 6-5 loss is ALL ON NED YOST!!!

The Kansas City Royals fell to 72-67 with their 6-5 loss on Wednesday night. They blew an opportunity to gain ground on both Cleveland and Detroit, who both lost. Thus, the Royals remain 7.5 games behind Cleveland and 3.0 games behind Detroit in the AL Central. The Twins fell to 52-87 and remain in last place in the AL Central.

Danny Duffy lasted 6.0 innings, allowing 8 hits, 0 walks, and 2 earned runs with 10 strikeouts. He also gave up an unearned run when Alcides Escobar muffed a ground ball in the fifth inning. Duff-man left the game in a position to earn his 12th victory, but set-up man Joakim Soria gave up the tying and lead runs in the bottom of the seventh.

It was the 11th time this season that Soria came into a tied game, or with a lead, and ended the inning surrendering either the tying or lead run.

Really, just how many leads—and key games—does Joakim Soria need to blow? Obviously, Ned needs to SAY that Soria hasn’t lost his confidence. But, his actions need to recognize that Strahm, Kelvin Herrera, and Wade Davis are your reliable options out of the pen.

The above description just doesn’t give credit to the utter horrible decision-making from Ned Yost Wednesday night. Matt Strahm hasn’t pitched in five days due to reports of a sore arm. Ok, I get that. However, Yost had him warming in the seventh inning and brought in Joakim Soria.

Here, Yost is trying not to use Strahm if he doesn’t have to. Again, I’m not all that happy with this one, but I can see it. Yet, when Soria gives up a runner on second with only one out and the tying run already across home plate, WHY IN THE HELL DON’T YOU BRING IN YOUR ALREADY-WARM LEFTY WITH TWO LEFT-HANDED HITTERS IN A ROW COMING TO THE PLATE?

Oh no.

You stay with righty Joakim Soria who then gives up a walk and a ground out to put runners on first and second. Gosh, maybe if you go to your lefty relief ace HE GETS OUT OF THE INNING WITHOUT FACING A RIGHT HANDED HITTER!!!

But, if you’re Ned Yost, you only bring in your lefty relief ace to face a switch hitter so you can turn him around to bat right handed—who then slaps a single to left to put the Twins ahead 5-4. Yeah, Twins manager Paul Molitor could have pinch hit for 1B Kennys Vargas (one of the two lefties). But, you force the other manager to make the move.

The Royals added another run in the ninth on Jarrod Dyson‘s RBI single to plate Whit Merrifield, but it wasn’t enough. The second run they allowed in the seventh proved the difference in the game.

Ned Yost’s moron cap just cost his team a loss they can’t afford.

KC Loses 6-5 Due To Ned Yost's Moronic Bullpen Management (http://kingsofkauffman.com/2016/09/07/royals-report-3/)

IMO, we need to win 10 of the next 11 games to get back into contention. That would put us at 82-68 with 12 games to go. Would most likely have to finish 8-4 against CLE (6 games), DET (3 games) and MIN (3 games) to have a legit shot. The next 11 games against ChiSox and OAK will be crucial

Same old Ned, Defensive to the end, when questioning one of his players. Doesn't matter if he's "crap", Ned doesn't want to hurt his feelings! Weakest part of his coaching is, and always has been, his management of his bullpen. KC should have let or forced him to retire after the world series win, then he could have went out on a high note. Sure get tired of listening to his press conferences. They need to start prepping for a run for next year. For now, bring on the Chiefs!

Besides the fact that Soria is a shitty pitcher, we brought in a guy that played in a culture of losing where he was never really under pressure because the teams expected to lose. Once he started playing for teams that were contenders, like Detroit, his losing mentality soon affected the rest of the team and his true colors were exposed. The sooner this team cuts ties with this loser, the better off they will be.
