Elway may have The Drive I and The Drive II, but we have The Drive III. Down 22-0 in the 2nd, we completed an 11-play drive that ate up nearly 1/2 the quarter....and then punted. It was a smorgasbord of WR screen passes, incompletions, QB scrambles and off tackle runs. (Then punted into the End Zone). The Steelers next play went for 26 yards.

Here's the recap for anyone wanting to be amazed:
1st and 10 at KC 18
(11:00 - 2nd) S.Ware up the middle to KC 21 for 3 yards (R.Cockrell, A.Moats)
2nd and 7 at KC 21
(10:25 - 2nd) (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short right to A.Wilson to KC 36 for 15 yards (J.Jones)
1st and 10 at KC 36
(9:42 - 2nd) (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short middle to T.Hill to KC 37 for 1 yard (J.Jones, V.Williams)
2nd and 9 at KC 37
(9:09 - 2nd) S.Ware right tackle to KC 41 for 4 yards (J.Dangerfield; J.Jones)
3rd and 5 at KC 41
(8:25 - 2nd) S.Ware up the middle to KC 46 for 5 yards (C.Heyward)
1st and 10 at KC 46
(7:44 - 2nd) A.Smith sacked at KC 45 for -1 yards (V.Williams)
2nd and 11 at KC 45
(7:01 - 2nd) (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short right to T.Kelce to KC 44 for -1 yards (W.Gay)

(6:25 - 2nd) Timeout #1 by PIT at 06:25.
3rd and 12 at KC 44
(6:25 - 2nd) (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short left to C.Conley ran ob at PIT 43 for 13 yards
1st and 10 at PIT 43
(6:01 - 2nd) K.Davis right tackle to PIT 45 for -2 yards (V.Williams)
2nd and 12 at PIT 45
(5:23 - 2nd) (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short right to T.Hill to PIT 44 for 1 yard (V.Williams)
3rd and 11 at PIT 44
(4:44 - 2nd) (Shotgun) A.Smith pass incomplete short middle to A.Wilson (S.Tuitt)
4th and 11 at PIT 44
(4:28 - 2nd) (Punt formation) D.Colquitt punts 44 yards to end zone, Center-J.Winchester, Touchback

This was eerily reminiscent of Fat Andy's magical drive in the Playoffs vs the Patriots, which lasted only 16 plays and ate up 5:16 late in the game trailing by 2 TD. At least that one ended in a score. It's incredible how many worthless, no-gain plays this clown draws up.

Something has to give here. Either it's the playcaller or it's the QB.

1. Is the playcalling limited because the QB is limited? Then the QB needs to go.

2. Is the QB limited because of the playcalling? Then the coach needs to get his shit together.

My money is on #1. We've seen Andy air it out in Philly. We know he's willing. He's coddling Alex Smith.

But we're in year 4 now and this offense is the same suck fest it's always been. Something has to give because there's been very little improvement. We're better at skill positions than we were, better on the O-line and still have a strong core of RB's, yet the results are the same.

The results are the same and the only thing offensively that hasn't changed since year 1 is Alex and Andy. So one of them needs to go, because no progress in 4 years is abysmal.

I think I've seen 1 or 2 WR screens work in Fat Andy's time here. Maclin scored on one last year in Oakland and Tyreke Hill had one vs SD week 1. I'm probably missing others, but good lord the "hit rate" on these is laughable.

I can't even tell anymore. Look at those first two passes in the game. I thought for sure that Reid had learned his lesson. And then he tries a swing pass to Charles and Smith fucking overthrows him. It all went downhill from there.

8 plays that gained 5 or less yards. 3 of which gained negative yards. 1 "short middle" incomplete pass. All for 38 yards and a punt.

I signed up for gamepass recently to get the coaches film. Alex is constantly leaving the pocket before pressure gets there and either getting sacked or throwing it away. Meanwhile, more often than not if he would just have stayed in the pocket a split second longer, a receiver is coming open downfield. He doesnt give plays time to develop before running around

Much like Tim Tebow, Colin Kaepernick and RGIII, Alex Smith has been figured out and his limited ability is not allowing the offense to progress. We've gone as far as we can go with the guy. It's over.

FOUR FUCKING YEARS. He has weapons. He has an O-line. He's just a limited QB.
