View Full Version : My assumptions on draft picks for 2017.

I'll be doing some mocks soon, but there has been a ton of activity for the Chiefs this year affecting our draft picks in 2017 (and beyond).

Here are my assumptions for 2017. Please correct me.

Our normal selection of picks:

1st
2nd
3rd
4th
5th
6th
7th

Now, the 6th is gone due to the 2015 tampering forfeiture.

I'm going to assume we got a conditional for Marcus Cooper, who has started for the Cardinals. I'm going to assume that nets us a 5th. Update: it was for 2018.

I'm going to assume we got nothing for Knile Davis, since it was conditional and he's been cut after two weeks.

Our Rod Streater trade netted us a 7th -- in 2018. So no effect this year.

As far as compensatory picks go:

Sean Smith signed a fairly big contract with the Raiders. $10m/year for four years. I assume that'll net us a 4th.

Chase Daniel signed a three year contract worth about $20m. We signed a skinny deal for Nick Foles, but since he was cut, it won't count against so. So I assume that Daniel nets us a 5th, if anything.

Tyvon Branch signed a two year deal worth about $4m a year. I assume that nets us a 6th.

Jeff Allen signed a fat deal with the Texans, and Donald Stephenson signed a lower-mid-size deal with the Broncos, both for multiple years. But we signed an even fatter contract with Mitchell Schwartz, so I'm going to assume that negates Allen's deal and at most, we'll get a 7th rounder for Stephenson, if anything.

So here's what I'm going to assume for future mocks, please correct me anywhere if you think anything needs to be corrected:

1st

2nd

3rd

4th

4th (compensatory for Sean Smith)

5th

5th (compensatory for Chase Daniel)

6th (compensatory for Tyvon Branch)

6th (compensatory for Donald Stephenson)

7th

Arrowhead pride a while back had us getting a 3, 4th, and 2 6's

Foles doesn't count since he was cut. Jeff Allen and Mitch Schwartz cancel out.

So Smith gets us a 3rd, Daniel a 4th, and Branch and Stephenson get 6's

That makes perfect sense on Foles.

That's awfully generous on the Daniels contract, though. A 4th? He didn't even get $25m.

I will revise, but a 4th for Smith (though a 3rd is defensible), a 5th for Daniel, a 6th for Branch and another 6th for Stephenson.

I would just like to mention that kccrow threw out the compensatory pick counter from overthecap.com, and that it agreed comprehensively with my placement of picks (quibbled on the specific players, though...).

The one exception: OTC believes the Chiefs will get a 6th for Stephenson, instead of a 7th that I've predicted. I've since changed my OP predictions.

Oh, fuck knuckles. Apparently our Marcus Cooper pick was for 2018.

Alrighty. Changing the OP.

the 2017 draft looks like it will be really deep at RB, S, TE, CB, and pass rusher. All areas of potential need (or replacing a free agent such as Charles and Berry).
