I'm going to be purchasing a new mother board, CPU, Ram and SSD today.

Here's the CPU I'm looking at.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117561

Now I'm not much of a gamer anymore. My build is from 6 years ago.

I'd like to get a gigabyte mother board because I've had luck with them in the past. Since I had a lot of help from the fine members of this board with my last build, I'm not sure what type of gigabyte I should be looking at. Can anyone recommend one?

I'm going to also need ram and a SSD.

With an SSD, how difficult is it to transfer my OS and necessary files from my old HD? Haven't ever done this before.

Thank you for all your help and patience.

So, I think this in the wrong section but..

It is very easy to clone your OS with software, as long as your new SSD can hold it.

edit: You can see I priced you a cooler, just so you know, if you dont buy one, you will be sad when you open your box and see that they do not come with a stock one~

I'd do a clean install of the OS.

I have an old video card - Sapphire Radeon HD 5550. Would that still work with this mother board?

Yes.

Also, I believe the locked Core processors still come with stock Intel coolers but I could be wrong.

Check to see if the i5-6600 (without the K next to it) comes with a stock CPU cooler.

It does. I purchased the k model from new egg along with the coolermaster cooler.

I can easily call and change to the other one since they are the same price if you think that's a wise move.

Here's what I purchased. I also added a Crucial 525 gb ssd drive for 109.99.

The only difference in a K is the unlocked multiplier, and the fact it doesnt come with a cooler.

If you arent overclocking and want to save a few bucks, you might call them. If its me, I take the K and the cooler for the extra 20 bucks so that later if you are feeling froggy then you can try your hand at OCing, plus, cooler temps are only positive on hardware life etc.

Good buy btw, looks like you are putting together a decent system. Should last you for another 4 or 5 years~

I will just leave it be then.

Thanks a lot for all your help. I will need to figure out the whole SSD drive, moving my 1TB drive to my secondary and all that, but I'm excited to upgrade.

I just rebuilt a couple of months ago, and tried a Gigabyte Motherbaord for the first time, I usually end up with Asus, but this Gigabyte board has been awesome so far:

It would work quite nice with that CPU.

As for ram, I picked up 32gb of Corsair Vengeance LED ram:

As for the SSD, I hear the Samsung EVO drives are pretty nice, but I ended up buying a Sandisk Extreme Pro, and it has worked flawlessly so far.

I'm still with Windows 7. I'll probably upgrade in a year or 2, but for right now, I'm comfortable keeping it.

I also have to decide between cloning or doing a clean OS on the SSD drive. Could you just clone certain programs from one HD to another so I can keep the settings I have intact?

If I were you, I would prolly go ahead and do a fresh install. Just to make to sure that there are no other system files hiding in there that may not play well with the new hardware.

They may not. I'm definitely going to do the clean install. I just want to ensure I can get the settings and files exactly like I have on my setup now.

You should be able to keep your old hard-drive exactly the same and if something messes up in the install you can just boot from it. Until you get all the settings set up

Can I transfer files to and from it while I'm logged in to one drive? I'm just going to want to put things I use daily and some other programs like microsoft office, itunes and random other shit.

I don't think so, I'm not entirely sure though
