View Full Version : Chiefs Paxton Lynch to start Sunday against Jaguars

Based on reports from Mike Klis, Paxton Lynch will be starting at quarterback for the Broncos this weekend, and the rookie says he will be more ready this time.

“I feel confident, more confident than when the season started,” Lynch said Wednesday, adding that scout team reps against the Denver defense has provided a huge step in his learning curve.

“Those reps that you get, you can’t compare them to any other reps because you’re getting them against the best defense in the league,” he said. “When I get those reps, I take them serious and try to make the throws every time.”

This is a common cliché, but its gotta be bullshlt, right?

The 2003 Chiefs defense didn't get any better by practicing against the best offense in the league. The 90s Chiefs offenses didn't get any better by practicing against DT/Neil Smith.

I think Elway is pretty good at evaluating a QB's worth... first with osweiler, he was responsible for Sieman, and Sieman has performed. Very interesting.

Well... I now officially downgrade Denver's chances of making the playoffs.

Why the hell would you bench Seimien? He wasn't why the Donks lost.

If they had started Lynch instead of Semen, would Lynch have gotten gotten PTSD from all the Houston sacks?

Yeah, I think a few of you believe this is a benching.. Trevor has been in a walking boot with an injured foot. Likely injured it while running for his life from Houston.

He lucked out with Assweiler. If the Texan's don't offer him that contract Denver is "stuck" with him.

I think Brock would have been decent in Denver, though.

It's almost like OP left out that important tidbit about the injury on purpose... and I can't be bothered with actually reading the article.

In the only 6 quarters of live action he has had this year, he hasn't been terrible considering he is a rookie.

14 of 24 for 170 and 1 TD vs Tampa
23 of 35 for 223 and 1 TD and 1 INT vs Atlanta

On that INT, it was from within the endzone, threw it deep. Now, had he been a bit more experienced and read his field better, he would have seen an open 82 floating out aobut 15 yards with an easy 1st down.

@ Jacksonville is a good matchup for Lynch this week, he threw pretty well and connected with Thomas and Sanders often. They had roughly 29 total targets in those 6 quarters, my guess is those 2 really like him because he's more apt to pass.

Jax is a mess I agree BUT don't discount how much of a psychological downer this was for the Broncos losing at home in a game they should have won and now they are on the road playing a team they will take lightly I'm sure thus not really motivated and then starting PL against a decent defense that has Malik Jackson who will want to play well and they have a decent 2ndary as well.

It will not be a cake walk IMHO.

Precisely. Siemien is going to wish he had not gotten hurt. Elway and Kubes know they are not going anywhere with that horrid o-line so lets get PL ready for next year.

If Elway was starting Lynch....because he knew this team wasn't winning anything this year with that OL and running game...I'd be impressed. It would signal that they are in play for Romo...and want to see where Paxton is.

Writing is on the wall with Denver...if San Diego didn't lose so many starters, Broncos would be in last place.

It will be interesting to see how Jacksonville plays Lynch. They have a good young defense with lots of stud potential guys on both sides of the ball.

It's also going to be Malik Jacksons chance to stick it to Elway for letting him walk...he might be in full on beast mode.

He'll get good protection with the refs allowing Denvers O-Line to hold. Funny how Stephenson got flagged for holding all the time with the Chiefs now that he's a donk it gets overlooked.

The 2003 Chiefs defense didn't get any better by practicing against the best offense in the league.

If that 2003 Chiefs offense could have practiced against a real defense they could have averaged more than a measly 30.3 points per game!

How much fire is there to the "Romo to Denver" smoke, MHM?

Ha... guess it depends. I'm sure there's the casual fan that says "Hell yeah, let's do it".

Not realizing that he's 36 now, 37 after April 2017. Sure, Manning was 36 when he signed with Denver... and he was coming off a major neck injury, but again, Romo is not Manning.

This is his 4th straight year of missing at least 1 game due to injury. So, 37 years old going into next season with a fairly substantial back issue and 3 broken collarbones in 5 years.

http://www.espn.com/blog/dallas/cowboys/post/_/id/4753377/a-look-at-tony-romos-injury-history

2010 -- Broken left collarbone.
2013 -- Ruptured disk.
2014 -- Two transverse process fractures.
2015 -- Broken left collarbone.
2015 -- Broken left collarbone. (yes, a 3rd time)
2016 -- Compression fracture, L1 vertebra.

But, let's look at the money. 3 years left on a big $ contract and not worth it... they rolled those dice with Manning and it worked out. Romo is no Manning.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/tony-romo-2447/

So, the fire you asked about... teams can't talk right now. Romo can't talk. Fans and media can talk and talk they shall.

But, I just absolutely do not see Elway making a trade for that player and that money with that history. Dallas will have to cut him and I just don't see them eating the $ to do that, considering they'll have to find a #2 guy and the ultimate savings won't be worth it.

Anything can happen, but Elway isn't going to make that trade for Romo.

The rumors will fly as long as Trevor and Lynch trip around the field, but Romo won't be holding a press conference in Denver.

I'm not sure how so many missed it... Siemian was in a walking boot all week, he missed practices. So, they benched him for the road game to recover.

And, back to the Romo thing. Why trade for a Romo and pay $23M if you can just pay out the nose for a much younger Kirk Cousins and work to be the top bidder in FA.
