View Full Version : Chiefs Chris Jones: 3rd most productive interior pass rusher in football

Hey! Another Chris Jones thread! Well yeah. If Alex gets a new thread a day, Chris mother****ing Jones gets a new one every once and awhile too.

In PFF’s now 11 seasons of charting and grading, no interior defensive lineman for the Chiefs has come close to the production as a pass-rusher that Chris Jones has already shown as a rookie. His 9.9 pass-rushing productivity is third among all NFL interior defensive linemen, behind only Aaron Donald an Geno Atkins. His 31 QB pressures on 240 pass-rushes are only four fewer than fellow rookie DeForest Buckner (49ers) has registered—except Buckner’s have come on 123 more total pass-rushing snaps.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-top-10-nfl-rookies-entering-nfl-week-14/?utm_content=bufferc9ea2&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=nfl

He's 3rd in interior pass rush productivity per PFF behind Aaron Donald and Geno Atkins and he's only been starting for 8 weeks.

Sam Monson said on a podcast that Chris Jones is Fletcher Cox reincarnate and it was astonishing that this guy fell to round 2.

They need to play him on 80% of the snaps on Thursday night.

The kid just wrecks shit when he's in there and TBH deserves to be an all pro DPOTY candidate.

Maybe he will be, by getting more snaps down the stretch as KC pushes to win the division and plays its playmakers more and more.

Buckle up.

Great rookie year, but not nearly enough time on field to be considered for All pro. Even with increased reps to finish. Next year maybe...Reek too.

What a stunning pick he's turned out to be. Dorsey with a home run on this one

It'd be nice if Dorsey's next magic trick is rewarding us for never drafting a viable QB.

The kid is raw as roadkill, just wait until he has some seasoning in the fire

Obviously its too early to proclaim it the truth, but if he continues on this arc Dorsey landed an annual All Pro

Dorsey just kills it in the draft
Fisher, Ford and Peters in the first
Jones and Morse in the second
Kelce, Nelson and Gaines in the third
Hill in the 5th
Roches, Tardiff, Fulton, in the 6th

Pretty damn good.

It would have been nice if they had got him in the first and gave us that 5th year option on him. But we got Ehinger and White out of the trade. White hasn't done much yet, but Ehinger looked good as a rookie starter at guard and will likely be a solid starter for years to come, so I will take the trade off and leave it to Dorsey to get him locked up a year sooner than he would have otherwise.

Jones is the reward for Paxton Lynch and William Jackson III being off the board at #28. Dorsey mentioned there were a couple guys they had hoped were there but were gone. I'd wager it was Lynch and/or Jackson III

For as raw as he is, this is really impressive.. his pad level is still shit sometimes and yet guards can't stop him.

With he and Poe in the middle, more often than not teams are doubling Poe instead of Jones. Both wreck one-on-one situations but Jones is doing it much more consistently than Poe did early in his career.

At this rate, he will be due for a massive payday in a few years.... I think 3-4 ends at the elite level are commanding 10M per year right now. Has to keep it up though.

For me, I'm extremely excited to see this kid in 3 years...once his frame fills out he's gonna weight 20 pounds more and he's already at 310. When you see him in person, you can see what I'm talking about. He has an extremely rare frame like Suh or Reggie White.

I bet he can gain 20-25 pounds and maintain nearly all of his quickness and explosion.

Dude...Malik Jackson got 6yrs/90 million on the open market this last offseason.

He will probably get north of 20m per year by the time he's due for a new contract.

A better comparison would probably be Mo Wilkerson since he wasn't coming off of a SB win and he didn't leave his team... so yeah, if he gets to that level, he could cost that much for sure. Just depends on the years.

Between Jones, Peters, Houston, Ford, possibly Berry... the Chiefs are going to have A LOT of money tied up in their defense in the future, and for good reason.

Well if you count DTs we gave up on like Keith Traylor (and wasn't there another one?) - our drafts look a little better :D

EDIT: Well nevermind, looks like we didn't draft Traylor. And searching our draft history back to the 70s, I can't find any DT, NT or DE we drafted who went on to big things with another team - except guys we also got a lot of production out of like Jared Allen and Nel Smith.

He's looking awesome out there along with Hill, the two of them and Peters alone make Dorsey look like the best drafting GM in the league as of late.

Jones is looking very good but let's go easy with predicting his next contract will be for $20 million a year after a partial rookie season of work.

It was mire a showing of the salary caps expected increase over that period of time and comparing him to a player that might not even be as good as him.

That was mainly talking shit to donk trolls after Derek Wolfe got injured and I didn't think he would be back for the Chiefs game. I was wrong. Iirc I said 400-500 rushing yards combined between both games, too.

Ware at least does not belong on this list. He was a 6th round pick by the Seahawks and we signed him off their practice squad (like Howard and I think another player or two).
