View Full Version : Chiefs Schefter: "Very realistic chance" that Jamaal Charles is back for playoffs

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/18253644/kansas-city-chiefs-rb-jamaal-charles-return-postseason

The article headline isn't as encouraging as what Schefter actually says, but combining this with what Rapoport has said, it seems JC is on the path to returning...

Would be a quite nice consolation for losing DJ. Would expect Ware to remain the main back, but having the all-time YPC leader can't ever hurt. The ultimate eraser of missed blocks, we know JC is hungry to remind people how great he is...

I can't help but hope that he gets to put his stamp on a potential HOF career with an epic playoff run.

I'd prefer he rest and rehab for next year.

He came back quick already and it didn't do him any favors...

I don't think there is any next year.

This might be his last games with KC. His possible last chance to help bring a title to KC...

Just a routine knee scope. Nothing major other than the pain of the scoping if he can handle coming back. I say play him.

Yeah, if I'm Charles, I want in there even if there's a chance he'll end his career by doing it. This is almost certainly the best chance he'll have at a legit Super Bowl run.

Someone else said this in a similar thread, so I'll just reiterate.

If he's ready to play come playoff time, I definitely don't think he's your #1 RB, not after the offense has already grown accustomed to Ware/West. Maybe give him 10~ touches and sometimes line him up as WR, give him the opportunity to make plays.

This. No need to not use every weapon we have for the playoffs.

It would also be cool for him to get his "Alex Gordon" moment.

That's not true, at all.

I don't think you understand arthroscopic surgery, for one. Secondly, he had the meniscus in both knees trimmed, which is anything but routine. He'll have issues for years and will eventually require knee replacement surgery.

That said, as long as both menisci have healed and he's not experiencing any pain, there's no reason why he shouldn't play.

I have to insist that this is not correct. It's extremely routine, in terms of it being a common issue (albeit in older people, and latter stage athletes). Recovery time is very quick, compared to other knee surgeries.

Issues in the future will include potential for some discomfort, but its a pretty routine ordeal. It's not routine that he had both done, but since he did them separately, I assume his PT is going fine and well.

By having this surgery he has permanently effected his future mobility.

Period.

That said, as long as both menisci have healed and he's not experiencing any pain, there's no reason why he shouldn't play.

It's a short term solution that causes a long term problem.

Charles is a good man. I think he'd walk a mine field if he thought it'd help his team win.

I don't think he should though...

I'll bet money jc is already running on said repaired knees. No its not routine to have both done but your talking about removing what's causing swelling, once the surgery from swelling is gone things start feeling new again. I've had mine done a few moths after acl surgery I was jogging 3.5 weeks post op and squating 7 weeks post op and I'm far from an athlete.

Dunerdr
12-11-2016, 11:41 AM
Big Ben was back after what 3 weeks? Not to mention jc has been doing the workouts to strengthen surrounding muscle groups for rehab and was in better running shape when it went bad than Ben probably ever has been.

I say bring him back... I'll add that Charles, Ware, Kelce, Maclin, and Hill might give an OC a lot to think about.

And with DJ out, we might need to score a lot more points on offense.

Partial meniscectomy is a common procedure. Every person responds differently though. A world-class athlete like Charles will probably respond quicker than most. Would not be terribly surprised to see him return in the playoffs.

Nah, no way.

He has 43 rushing TD's. Priest Holmes had 86 and he's not in the HOF.

Emmitt Smith had 164.

Charles doesn't have the resume and he's never led his team to a playoff win, which is important in the voter's minds.

The interesting part is his TD efficiency soared playing with Reid/Smith

Rushing TD's pre-smith: 17
Rushing TD's 2.5 seasons with Smith: 26

Receptions TD's pre-Smith: 7
Rushing TD's 2.5 seasons with Smith:13

We did! We actually just got home after picking up the youngster in Texas.

My wife loves Arthur Bryant's, so that was our very first stop in KC. We also hit LC's and Q39 while we were there. And we also went to Garozzo's on everybodies recommendation. Got some good shopping done, hit some good breweries, went to the casino, and she even convinced me to indulge in a pedicure while we were downtown one evening. The game was cold, but really not as bad as I was expecting.

I made the mistake of ordering a pretzel when we got into the stadium, and before we even got situated in our seats, the damn thing was ice cold. Below is a pic of the wife with the frozen pretzel.
