Now good luck trying to find a quality new HC to fill that job.

Dysfunctional front office? Check
Bad owner? Check
No home stadium or permanent team facility for the next 2+ years? Check

Yes it is Los Angeles and yes it is one of just 32 NFL franchises, but it might be hard to attract Tier One HC prospects under the franchise's current circumstances.

Maybe the Rams go the really weird/unconventional route and hire Goff's college HC, Sonny Dykes as their new HC.

He would certainly fit the profile of a coach with an offensive background, although with zero NFL experience (not to mention someone who hasn't exactly been overwhelmingly successful at the college level).

Problem is Fisher wasn't a quality HC either. I feel bad for Goff, who will likely need to learn a new system after just one year. On the upside, however, the system that he was in COMPLETELY SUCKED, so it had to happen eventually.

Wonder if Josh McDaniels has any interest. Bright offensive mind, and they have some decent pieces on offense. Might depend on whether he thinks Goff is real or not.

Not sure what his "market" is like either. Obviously his Donx tenure was a massive, massive bust, so...

There will be coaches lining up for that job. The team paid Fisher top money, and will likely pay his replacement top money as well. The coach will have job security. If it takes 5 consecutive losing seasons to get canned, one trip to the playoffs would mean a 10 year career. That's hard to do in the NFL. Also, they have a top overall pick quarterback waiting in the wings. If the coach coming in thinks that Goff is a franchise quarterback, that would be a big selling point.

Oh right, forgot McDaniels had a stint with the Rams as OC. Probably not then, due to bad blood. The offense was epic-bad.

I think there is a reasonable chance McDaniels gets another shot at HC somewhere within the next couple years. He was in his 30s for both his HC gig and short gig with the Rams, and I imagine someone will give him another shot at some point.

I'd counter with Saban needing a challenge after dominating in college, while Coughlin won 2 Super Bowls, making him nothing like JF.

I think Harbaugh would take $10 million and only stick around for 4 years.
Coughlin would be another old time retread, like Fisher. Not saying they are similar coaches in terms of style, record (Fisher was horrid).

I think Harbaugh makes over 9 million to coach at a place he loves, so I don't think 10 would be enough to get him to leave.

I think after Saban skulked away from Miami like a thief in the night he probably doesn't want to go to the NFL. He has the perfect situation for his style where he's at.

Coughlin is a real possibility, but definitely don't sleep on David Shaw, he would be a great fit on the West Coast.

Saban is God in Alabama. Not sure what upside there really is for him going somewhere else. He is making $7.09 million per year, which if I understand it right is top tier NFL HC salary.

Regardless, to get a top talent like Saban or Harbaugh, that guy will need to be convinced that Goff is an elite talent. Otherwise, why go to the completely dysfunctional Rams at all?

I mentioned Shaw earlier and IMO, he would be the perfect coach for Goff and the Rams. Calm, even demeanor, somewhat charismatic.

I'm not sure anyone can answer that question about Goff. Personally, I liked Wentz far better than Goff and still can't believe Goff was the choice.

The Rams offensive line and perimeter weapons are so poor that's next to impossible to determine whether or not Goff is a legit NFL QB at this point in time.

That said, he needs to put on 20 pounds of muscle because he's built like a stick figure.

I guess it would depend on whether or not Harbaugh wants to jump back in and go head to head with Pete Carroll for a few more years while destroying the 49ers each year.

Part of me wonders if Gruden is feeling pressured to maybe make a change, with all the money ESPN is hemorrhaging. It can't be too much longer until they can't afford to extend him at his salary.

For a big enough raise, yes.

How can they give him an extension 1 week before firing him?

How screwed up in the Rams' front office. :doh!:

It's been mentioned multiple times.....the extension happened in the offseason.

So they waited to announce for months?

Rams' front office still looks like a mess.

Smells of a Cleveland-esque move.
