Michael Floyd's disastrous 2016 season has cost him a job.

The Arizona Cardinals announced Wednesday that they have released the wide receiver in the wake of Monday's arrest on drunken driving charges. Floyd was previously arrested in 2011 for driving under the influence.

With his rookie contract expiring, Floyd was set to reach free agency in March. All but eliminated from the playoff picture following last week's loss at Miami, the Cardinals opted to pull the cord with three games remaining in a disappointing season.

You really think someone is going to sign him to a huge contract after that DUI? He'll be lucky to get a one year prove it deal.

Presumably the whole NFL passed on him. Pats are either last or second to last in waiver priority.

It's not like we could have used a 6'3" RZ threat or anything.

Sure, if he were playing well. While i would've been happy if the Chiefs had grabbed him, it doesn't bother me a bit that they didn't.

I have no idea what's going with his personal life, but passing out drunk at a stoplight? From all accounts, the dude just isn't focused on football.

$1.2mm for three games might've been too steep, especially for the Chiefs if I remember right. Think they are somewhat cap-constrained.

Or people were hoping he'd pass through waivers unclaimed, at which point a new contract could be negotiated.

This is classic Belichick though. Pats have plenty of cap room next year, we bring in a former Charlie Weis guy for a look, since we're low on WRs. He's a big, RZ threat as you say, and we're down Gronk. If he works out, we have exclusive negotiating rights through March and can entice him with $$ + Tom MF Brady. If he doesn't work out, let him walk and maybe get a comp. pick for him.

I hope he works out. We haven't had a WR with this kind of size since Moss. At least one who didn't flat suck (e.g. Dobson).

We should have found the cap space. Its only money.

It's not the actual cash, it's the cap space. Right now Chiefs have the third least amount of cap space in 2017. Obviously, guys can be cut and deals restructured, etc., but eliminating $1.2mm this year means $1.2mm less can be rolled over to next year.

Then factor in that a suspension hasn't come down from the league yet.

I understand how it works. You find a way to make it work, especially with Maclin being all dinged up. Hell I would have done it to keep him away from NE.

For a WR that's never played in this offense before.....and is not that far away from being suspended by the NFL? Nope.

As far as the 6'3" redzone threat. We already have a couple of those that don't get enough RZ targets as it is. Adding one more would just be a waste.

It's strange that a QB guru built this team around a middling veteran QB. The wheels fell off the Carson Palmer bus. It's amazing they're this bad, considering they have a RB that may be a consensus MVP if the Cards were a winner.
