It takes at least 6 weeks for the broken bones to heal. It may take longer for the involved ligaments and tendons to heal. Yes and no. The defense has gotten slightly better and has been timely this year. Mcgloin will need a lot of jump balls to go his way next week. The oline will also need to help run the ball. I don't think it's nearly as impossible as some think. Also depends how bad Denver wants to hurt Oaklands chances.

I was just wondering today if the NFL was going to pick the Patriots (payback for taking the fall on the Peyton Manning farewell tour) or the Raiders (La$ Vega$), and I thought the Raiders might be the pick. But now they may have no choice but to pick New England. That's good, though, because otherwise they'd have to pick New England in 2017.

Eli has as many rings as Roethlisberger does and defeated Brady head to head in the SB twice.

And I understand your point saying 0 playoff success in those 3. I personally don't think the Cowboys will win the NFC(Atlanta is my pick). But there is honestly 0 reason for the Chiefs not be in the AFCCG if they win the division and have a chance vs New England in New England.

Mcgloin is an underdog QB. He has time to prepare for the Broncos. I think the Raiders will get. Shine their new QB and rise to the challange.

It wouldnt shock me if they go in there with a strong running game plan and get out of there with the win. Thats basically how they beat the Broncos the first time. I still say they are done as far as doing anything significant in the playoffs, but they can beat the Broncos without Carr.

Carr gets injured, the Raiders are fucked.

Chiefs lose their starter, hope is renewed.

This is fucked up.

The Chiefs have SIX starters on Injured Reserve:

Allen Bailey, Jaye Howard, Jamaal Charles, Derrick Johnson, Parker Ehinger, Josh Mauga and recently, Justin March-Lillard.

Not to mention the fact that Justin Houston, who missed eight games this season, is now hobbled and Maclin missed a month or more.

Say what you will about this Chiefs team, the offense and their issues, but it's amazing that they're 10-4 at this juncture

Warts and all.

Er uh... dont be so sure.. in his 1st start at QB he threw for 3 TD's and beat the Redskins, the beat the Texans and almost beat the Cowboys.

McGloin can throw the ball pretty good. With that OL I think they can absolutely beat the Broncos, not to mention they have one of the best run games in the NFL. I don't see anybody beating the Pats this year and that includes the Raiders with Carr. i'll bet if the Pats win the SB, Brady retires and then the AFC is wide open starting next year.

I didn't say that. Certainly that will be our hope. That Denver wants to cost Oakland the bye. I'm just saying that using Cleveland as proof that teams play hard even with nothing at stake isn't really true because they had a ton of motivation.

And, by the way, the point of my original post wasn't to say that Bridgewater or even Carr didn't suffer bad injuries. Of course they did. Anytime you break or dislocate anything, it's a big deal. The problem is when people(mostly media)start immediately dropping statements that talk about amputation or life and death, before the facts come out. That was the case with Bridgewater. When it happened people speculated that it was life threatening. Once he was fully checked out by actual doctors, there was no nerve or arterial damage revealed rendering earlier speculation that he was going to lose his leg or even die, as overdramatized.

I think hes trying to say Oakland might match up better against Denver then the Chiefs do against Denver. Based on that first game and the way Oakland can run the ball. Oaklands size on oline is a mismatch for the Bronco Dline. Thats not to say the Chiefs cant advance out of the 5 seed and go into Oakland and beat them again. They probably would. Houston and Oakland look to be favorable match ups for the Chiefs to make the AFCCG if it plays out like that. Oaklands most likely a one and done now, especially if they get the Chiefs in that game. Chiefs were a bad match up for them WITH Carr.

Im just not sold that Oakland cant beat Denver without Carr, the way they can manhandle the Broncos with the running game.

Denver on paper is what kc should want. They don't run well and don't stop the run well which negates our two weaknesses.

I agree. If you can run the ball effectively on them all their strengths on D are negated. They may be the best passing D in football, but if you dont have to pass or pass when its in your favor that D isnt very good. And on O they arent good at anything.

If the Chiefs can execute a running game plan they will win comfortably. I think they win regardless as Denvers O sucks.

Honestly, I don't know that you're going to see as big a drop-off as you might expect because Carr benefits from a great line and great receivers. There will be some timing and other issues that only establish themselves with time, but I still think Carr's stats have more to do with his O-Line and receivers then Carr and fully expect McGloin to benefit in the same way.

The Chiefs are damn lucky to be where they are. Most teams wouldn't be able to recover from the injuries we've had and keep winning. In the end I still think we're to injury riddled and Alex isn't good enough to get this team past NE. But at least it won't be the cocksucking Raiders!

Generally agree with this, but I also think Andy Reid is a good coach who doesn't have the killer instinct you need to put teams away.

But we're missing half our defensive starters, no denying they've played pretty good with the back-ups.

Didnt Carr put up similar numbers 2 years ago when his OL was bad and his WR's back then arent even playing in the NFL anymore?. That McGloin dude looks pretty good to me from what I've seen. And he had some bad WR's. I think he's gonna step in and keep that offense humming. People will then say that because he's doing good Carr must not be that good and it's all because of their OL etc ... that wont be true, what might be true is that both Carr and McGloin are two pretty good QB's. To be honest I'm hoping McGloin goes off.. It'll be funny that other teams get to use the Raiders to showcase McGloin, he's a UFA after this year. And I'm dead serious when I say he's a guy we should seriously look at him. Alex Smith is ass and will never take us to a SB and win it.

I think Carr > McGloin based on what I've seen of both but I still think Carr benefits tremendously from the line/receivers which is something that will (mostly) translate and inure to McGloin's benefit.

To your questions...

Carr in 2014: 348 of 599 (58.1%) for 3,270 yards (5.46 ypa) 21TDs 12 INTs 4 FUM - 24 sacks - 43.4 QBR - 76.6 Passer Rating

He was a rookie, of course, so he should be better, but he is considerably better with this OL and WRs - notably in the sacks and YPA stats.

McGloin in 2013: 118 of 211 (55.9%) for 1,547 yards (7.33 ypa) 8TDs 8 INTs 2 FUM - 6 sacks - 54.4 QBR - 76.1 Passer Rating

The one time the Chiefs faced McGloin as a starter in 2013 it was the Jamaal Charles 5TD game where KC scored the most points ever against a Raiders team, winning 56-31. They didn't record any sacks but had 4 INTs of McGloin (half his total for that season).

He does make phenomenal throws (like the one along the sideline to Crabtree yesterday) occasionally, but he also misses wide-open receivers and benefits tremendously from the pieces around him. Even Alex would throw for 4,000 yards with that line/receivers.

Well if McGloin plays his cards right he'll have a decent post-season and translate it into a $70 million payday like Osweiler did. He'll also promptly go back to being average wherever he lands with a normal O-Line and WRs.

1-5 as a walk on ROOKIE. He was playing under coach Dennis Allen who was horrible as a head coach. Truth is he is kinda an unknown.

He lost to the Chiefs and he really didn't look so bad in that game considering the situation. Bad team overall, playing from behind, and he was willing to sling it.

I just don't see the Fade moving the ball against that Denver D without Carr. Then again, Dungver can't move the ball against KU, much less an NFL defense. The Faiders defense has improved so that's not good for the Donks. I wonder if either team.even reaches the end zone on offense. I don't know what the over/under is for the game, but I take the under.

The Raiders Oline is very good and they have WR that will help McGloin out. I figure they can score 17-20 points which would probably be more than enough with the Broncos offense. Raiders defense will be pumped up to help the team out. Will be interesting to see how they look.

I figure Oakland will use a heavy ground attack like they did the last game against Denver. And your right they should be able to score 17-20 points without much from the passing game. Denver could win but I doubt it.

Take this however but Denver may be shutting down some starters and evaluating talent. Lynch will probably start. I think we took the wind out of their sails.

I agree with this and again reiterate that McGloin will benefit from the much better team that is assembled around him.

That said, playing your first game of the season with that group against a Broncos team that was just humiliated on national TV in their own house could prove too tall an order. If there was a match-up that benefits the Broncos and hurts the Raiders it is this one, but I still believe the drop-off from Carr to McGloin won't be as great as some might suspect.

Nope.

Evidently the way he broke it the doctor they were interviewing said that it will take 6-8 weeks on crutches, then another 6-8 weeks to strengthen, then another 3-4 months to get to the point where you can do the things that NFL QBs do with their legs. Evidently when you break the leg due to a an ankle twisting it breaks some sac that surrounds the bone and is important to connecting the lower leg to the upper leg and that needs to heal separately from the bone itself (which, in a normal situation, you are correct would take 6-8 weeks). It is the way he broke it that requires the extra rehab.

I'll try to find the video - was informative.

Dunno, but I remember everyone thinking TO was a freak of nature for walking at that point, let alone playing (and playing well if I remember correctly).

I was surprised by the 6-8 week prognosis actually - there's no way your ankle gets twisted so hard your fibula breaks and there aren't other problems with ligaments, but I'm a fan sitting in a chair watching on TV so what do I know?
