I was walking to work today and it was really cold in Denver. I have a nice pair of gloves that is relatively thin but quite warm, and I was studying them as I walked. I have no idea how long I've had them, but I decided that I had received them as a gift.

I've got probably half a dozen pairs of gloves (2 for running, 3 that I keep in coat pockets, and 1 pair of astronaut gloves that I keep in the closet for really cold days), and of those I've only purchased one pair. It was a $3 pair of those cloth work gloves that I got at a truck stop because I was about to run a race that was much colder than expected, and I had no gloves.

I wonder, though, how common it is to buy one's own gloves. I have a theory that it may be the item that is most likely to be received as a gift instead of purchased.

Poll coming as soon as I can get my gloves off. For the purposes of the poll,

consider the pair of gloves you most recently wore
include only gloves that you own personally (e.g., not your latex gloves that you use when conducting brain surgery), and
include only cold-weather gloves as opposed to dishwashing latex gloves or sanitary gloves that you use to handle your collection of Precious Moments figurines.

I once pulled my right glove off and realized I'd left a thumb in it.

As if I'd trust my family to buy me gloves worth a damn.

If I'm working it's Kinco. If I'm skiing it's Burton.

Everything else is useless trash.

I care about my gloves too much to just go with something someone gave me.

My theory is proving wrong. Apparently I don't put enough thought into my gloves.

The last time I wore gloves, they were the ones my wife handed me. I have no information about their origin beyond that.

Never received gloves as a gift. Never considered giving them as a gift either.

I found some gloves with a red bloody looking substance on them in Brentwood in 1994. They fit me perfectly.

Oh, I have seven pairs. A coworker re-gifted me a pair since I walk a lot, and it was one of those phone-using gloves. However, we laughed about it because they totally didn't work when I tried them. The packaging clearly said that they would work with touch screens and we have multiple people try them on multiple screens with no success.

I am very picky about my gloves and choose them myself.

It's getting harder and harder to get quality gloves for anything reasonable.

I don't ever wear gloves.

Last time I did was the playoff freezer against the ravens. I bought a pair on the way up.

Nice mittens are underrated, not one mention yet.

Boxing gloves are really mittens, after all.

They're hittin' mittens.

When it's really cold, I'll pull my fingers out of the glove fingers and ball them up in a fist. It's a lot warmer, and probably similar to how mittens work.

My wife seems to buy me a pair of gloves before every winter. I have no idea why, because its not very cold here on Louisiana. So, when we decided to attend the Chiefs-Raiders Thursday nighter last month, I was excited about putting to use a pair of the many gloves she's purchased for me over the years.

Then about 5 days before we were scheduled to head to Kansas City, an amazon box arrived at the house.

She had purchased us some gloves for the game.

If we only do brain surgery as a hobby, at home, with our own latex gloves, do those count?

is there an age group to who tends to wear gloves frequently? I notice it's usually those in the mid thirties and above to wear them regularly

I bought mine at a military surplus store outside of Fort Drum. My thinking was that soldiers in Afghanistan want gloves that keep them warm but allow freedom of movement. They're pretty decent at freedom of movement, but my fingers were freezing off this morning when I scraped the ice off my windshield. It reinforced my appreciation for even the day to day things our deployed troops have to deal with.
