Jake Plummer was 39-15 as Denver's starter with nearly 12,000 yards and 71 TD.

You know who's above him on the list? Another loser named Brian Griese.

That's what we have here. Our very own Jake Plummer.

Except he couldn't get to the AFC Championship game like Plummer did.

Bill Pussy was the QB when I was in my 20's and at the height of my Chiefs Fanatical Fan Stage. He wasted a decade of my life. I hate him with a white-hot intensity of a million suns. He wasted some of the best defense the Chiefs have ever had. Marginalized the careers of guys like Art Still, Deron Cherry, Bill Maas, Gary Barbaro, Albert Lewis and Gary Spani. If the Chiefs could have been anything more than mediocre, all these defensive players would be much more revered for their greatness.

Yep. Down the stretch, the signs were all there as KC had issues against teams that could effectively run. Course, against the Titans and Bucs, Smith had BRUTAL game-altering end zone interceptions.

The win % over 5 straight years in the regular season is impressive. You don't have to think he is elite or awful on that % alone.. yet it is impressive.

Sample size for playoff win % is way too small.. plus, I think most would give him a pass for the Indy loss.. and many give him somewhat of a pass for the NYG one. That, and factoring in injuries to some very good players in the playoffs... and well.

Smith didn't play an A game against PIT.. but his C at worst performance would have been elevated to a B had there not been a few critical receiver drops, and that Fisher flag.

can we all at least admit this much?

He was just too scared to throw the ball.

That is sad. This is how bad we are, a qb that is on the shortest leash in nfl history soon cracks a top 3.

Must be amazing in todays nfl where the rules are in favor of passing and qb protection that smith and reid decide to be so protective.

Then we compare that to the futility of the chiefs alltime qbs.

I am sure some are happy with is stats of play protective and dont throw ints. Smith outside of a handful of his games does not pass the eye tedt. You cannot rely on him to put the game on his back and win it, and that is equally on reid.

RunKC
01-22-2017, 11:54 AM

That is m.o. though. Unless tyreek was 1st option he will not look his way 99% of the time. It is 1.first read. 2.checkdown, run, throw it away/bad pass.

And he is too much of a veteran to learn anything new. It has been 4 years now of it.

Smith is not the worst QB, but he isn't winning games for this team.
He simply doesn't lose games.

I don't blame Smith for the loss against Indy, though I do hold him and Reid accountable for the nearly 2 minutes and 30 seconds combined that was left on the play clock when the ball was snapped on second hand snaps.

But Alex did leave too many plays on the field in this loss.
He had the plays there to overcome the mistakes by the rest of team, and good QBs will not miss as many opportunities that he misses consistently.

Smith is not a bad QB, but he also isn't a good QB.

That's only been the case in 1, maybe 2 games this year. The pick in the Bucs game happened with 10 minutes left in the game and the defense let Winston go 60 yards to score a TD and then also drive down the field a second time to seal the game. Our defense is just not clutch down the stretch as we need it to be against the good teams.

Man the fact that you would even attempt to put Smith above Green is a macrocosm of everything that people hate about you...
Trent had some of the worst Defenses EVER fielded..
Never had a legit #1 rec.......EVER.
And had more balls at age nine than Alex has.

In 1993 he was 12th in YPC, 8th in adjusted YPA and 5th in net yards gained per pass attempt.

I don't know, man. If the Chiefs were to give up the Elite Ball Control that Alex gives us, we might lose some regular season games.
Developing a youngster is messy; let other teams do it and then take their washed-up product for ridiculous pricing!

I know what you mean how can we get by with a quarterback that passes the ball past the first down mark and not flair passes to running backs that get tackled on 3yard gains? If we need 12 yards for a first down on 3rd down bet sure Alex will wind up for an 8 yard pass.

Holy shit, I'm so glad I wasn't alive during the Mike Livingston era. I had no clue he was that bad.

He wasn't as bad as you think. He started 5 games as a rookie in 1969, the season they won the Super Bowl. They won all 5 of those games.

You can't really compare stats from that era. Back then, if a QB passed for 3,000 yards in a season, it was considered awesome. Livingston wasn't horrible. He certainly wasn't great, but he wasn't horrible. After Dawson retired and Livingston took over, he had the bad luck of playing for a team where the stars all got old at the same time and the front office did a horrible job of replenishing the roster.

Edit: Maybe I should have looked at the statistics before I said Livingston wasn't horrible. Those stats are pretty horrible. I retract my claim that he wasn't horrible. I guess I still have a little of that euphoria left over from the 1969 team being Super Bowl champions. It lasts forever.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

Criticism is something that has some merit.

You are a ****ing idiot that can't handle the reality that Alex Smith is a mediocre QB who puts up numbers that mean absolutely nothing because he plays from a place of fear.

He passes up potential big plays because he's afraid to stand in the pocket.
He throws checkdowns because he's afraid of making mistakes.
He leaves clean pockets because he's afraid of taking hits from phantom pressure.

This team isn't losing 10 games or more a season because they are getting better coaching and gameplans, and cudos to Alex Smith, he isn't ****ing that up.

But he isn't the reason this team is winning more.

I'm an ignorant Chiefs fan but who else did Alex Smith beat in the playoffs in his 9 year run as a 49er?

No. it's game like those that make Smith all the more frustrating.

He clearly displays that he has the talent to be that kind of QB, but he consistently plays from a place of fear far more than he plays to that level.

Those games are anomalies.

Most QBs who play two years behind a **** line and get their spleens torn would suffer from distrust of their O line. He's scrambled far less than last year and his sack rate has declined dramatically but you want me to believe that he plays scared? If he was so scared then why is he rushing for yards with linebackers coming full speed at him. ...

Every QB is going to leave a couple of plays in the field, but the fact his receivers dropped 5 important passes puts the attention on bigger issues

You're assuming Dorsey/Reid will be around after 2 more seasons. Smith is still improving, whether you want to believe it or not. Most veteran QBs peak sometime heading into their mid 30's. Smith is just 32.

Fact, not fiction.

Smith is still improving! ROFL

When he scrambles, he usually avoids the hit by sliding.

His sack rate has declined because the line improved, and he's checking down faster than almost every other QB.

I still dont know if hes just trolling or if he just really, really, believes in Alex Smith. He is/was a good stop gap, he held the fort down but if you want more than that its time to move from a game manager to a play maker. The fort is secure. Thank you Alex.

Sometimes we are hard on Smith witch may piss a Smith fan off, but he is what he is, he doesnt suck, hes just a slightly above average QB whos claim to fame is is protects the ball. Hes not going to go out and win you a game, he really not much of a play maker as he isnt comfortable going deep unless he has a huge window. He generally protects the ball well as the designated team hall monitor and that leads to a lot of punts, but I think Andy thought he could win that way when he brought him in.

Ball security, dont take any chances, just a few scoring drives a game and your defense will secure the win. You can beat the mediocre/bad clubs that way, hold out long enough and they will stub their toe and turn it over, or if were really lucky the defense will just decide to score themselves and take the middle men (Alex and Andy) out of it. D/ST accounted for 40% of scoring. Your not going to win a championship that way your just not.

I hope you stick around after Dorsey finds HIS guy.

I highly doubt it, though.

Watching him lose his job is the only thing that's gonna give me hope again.

Seeing him one read and bail with receivers running open was the very last straw for me.

Imagine how Dorsey and Reid feel behind closed doors. I would be Irate. 17 and seven fuckimg zeros for THAT shit.

There is no way under God that Dorsey is still backing Smith.

It's either a mod or one of Alex Smith's relatives. This is the sad, sad heart of the matter. Following Smith from team to team is baffling. He has never been anything better than average, yet that compels you to follow his NFL career.

I can understand the sort of losers that followed Manning from the Colts to the Broncos to some extent. Or even fans in Cali that followed Joe Montana to the Chiefs and set themselves up for years of heartbreak. Smiff Suckers, those are odd ducks. It would be like me following Billy Butler to the A's or some dumb shit.

Holy shit, I'm so glad I wasn't alive during the Mike Livingston era. I had no clue he was that bad.Mike Livingston started 6 games for the injured Len Dawson and injured backup QB Jacky Lee the year the Kansas City Chiefs won the 1969 AFL and World Championship aka Super Bowl 4! He won all six games he started and was selected to the Pro Bowl that season. That team was built on Defense and the running game. When Len Dawson came back from the injury and played against the Oakland Raiders Dawson was just 2 of 6 for 47 yards for no TD's and no INT's, and he played the entire game! Mike Livingston did a great job, being in only his second season, and played a huge part in the six wins playing quarterback in that 1969 SUPER BOWL Winning season for the Kansas City Chiefs.

That '69 team had one of the all time great defenses.

They didn't win because Livingston.

Hell, they didn't win the SB because of Dawson.
