I tried it the other day, just my opinion but I think it was better than sous vide pork belly. Really the problem with spam is the texture and sous vide just makes it melt in your mouth. Next I'm going to try vienna sausages.

My wife and her family love spam. I don't mind the taste of it, but I just don't think it tastes good enough to be worth the loads of sodium.

And I'm no health snob. I eat like shit. I just don't think spam is one of the better tasting shit foods.

I'd love to try those and the jalapeno version, but have never seen them around here

Cant argue with those who say its very salty, thats why I like it on a sandwich with some veggies and mayo... the bread etc helps dilute the saltiness

It is a Hawaiian specialty. Rice and SPAM wrapped with dried seaweed. Makes a great meal on the go, I'll sometimes stop at 7-11 and get one if I don't have time to stop and eat somewhere. I'll also throw one in my pack when I'm hiking, they can give you a good boost of carbs and protein when you are tired.

Mainly in my foot, go get a blood test to check your uric acid levels. You very well could have it especially if you drink the hard stuff as much as you say. Gout sucks, but I can easily maintain it by taking my medication everyday.

I can feel my foot starting to swell slowly I know it's coming then, a couple hours later it's a full pain fuck everything in the world.

yes. for me, more manageable there. although its usually in my big toe and in the surrounding areas. had it for about 5 weeks over the holidays, and i hadn't even been drinking (or eating terrible bad).

next time you flare up, get your doc to give you indomethicen. as the doc was leaving i asked him about a steroid shot. he said, sure, it should help.
i don't know whether it was the indo, or the shot, but it was mostly gone by the next morning.

I had it in my knee and couldn't walk, I felt like my kneecap was going to dislocate. He gave me a cortisone shot right by knee and it didn't work. I had a shot in my foot as well and it also didn't work. I can tolerate the pain in my foot and I'm able to go to work, but it's miserable as fuck.

I started eating spam as a scout in Italy. It was never meant to be totally awesome, it was meant to sustain.

And if cooking it differently makes it better, I'm all for it... Before "Rotisserie Chicken" was a popular rub for chicken we were using it on SPAM... We learned how to rub it with olive oil, put plenty of the "powder" on it, then direct "fry" it over a camp fire.

It worked.

I'm talking about the flavor/experience of eating each sammie, not the underlying nutritional value.

Both are salty savory meaty sammie fixins. Neither are particularly healthy. Bologna and Spam sammies may be lazy, but they're tasty, . . . not disgusting or poverty stricken.

It is basically comfort food to them, dating back to the Korean War when it was often all they had to eat. They have a dish called budae jjigae (literally "Army Base Stew") that usually has either SPAM or hotdogs along with the noodles from a pack of ramen, some veggies and spicy red peppers that is served in restaurants that specialize in it.
