OK, this is really cool. After having been taken down by YouTube because of some extremist "animal rights" idiots who complained to YouTube because it violated nudity and sexual content rules (!!!), it's back.

Rock on Mama April! WOOT WOOT!!

This park is a 15 minute car ride from my house.

The park owner built this small out door zoo with very little cash and purely on his love for animals and kids.
In a very short time(a few yrs) its blossomed into one of the cleanest zoos you'll ever see.
The animals are ridiculously healthy.
All the cages are well thought out and maintained.

The owner is a small town hero and it saddens everyone locally to even hear animal rights associated to his name.

I'm just glad it only took 24 hours to get this **** straightened out and his name cleared.

one side of the building your looking at is wide open and the Giraffes walk down a slope to where people feed them an endless supply of carrots.
They devour carrots one after another like M&Ms

One of the greatest things in life that I have seen was cows being born-or pulled. Along with my own kids birth. This is not wrong to have it broadcast. it is life.

Now that you mention it that is exactly how this story played out.

As far as watching the birth goes.
I watched my wife give birth naturally and stared into her tummy during a C section.
Not much can phase me now

3/3 Morning Update
Evident to our overnight viewers, April changed some of her behaviors overnight. Moving in different patterns, choosing new spots to stand and sleep, and even going off her usual sleep routine (recognizable to our loyal viewers). Why? Could be many reasons. Continued increase in belly movements. Keeper reports this morning suggest all observed physical signs remain unchanged and on the positive.
The weather has robbed us of the warmer temperatures we have been receiving, and brought snow and ice. This creates a slip fall hazard for the giraffes, so they will remain indoors today. This will mean increased enrichment, training sessions, and attention from our team. Any days our giraffes are not able to have yard access - our Plan B enrichment program takes over to keep their bodies and minds happy and healthy (stimulated).
We welcomed a baby cria (llama) to the world yesterday around 1:00 PM. He has done well, along with mom, and has been moved indoors to avoid the drop in temperature. This is our first llama birth on site; though we have had alpaca in the past. So congratulations to Rasta Llama and his lady Sweet Pea on the new little boy. (every animal has a name)
We urge caution again, many pop-up T-shirt and clothing stores, also fake youtube pages with chats are taking advantage of the opportunity. All things April that are official and sanctioned by Animal Adventure are located on www.ApriltheGiraffe.com
No YouTube SuperChat this evening or Saturday, but will begin again Sunday 8 - 9 PM.
Have a great day! Talk Giraffes with a stranger!

3/3 Evening Update
Not much change to report. Continued belly movements! Back end remains quite large with visibly pink coloring. No significant reports from care staff or vet.
The cold has taken hold! Oliver and April enjoyed a lot of extra attention today with many media guests - which always means treats! New York City media outlets; NBC and The NY Times. To think we were 70 degrees a week ago, with the giraffes out in their yard! Will be another day or so before conditions are safe again.
Photo is of a few of our 8 new Barbados lambs we welcomed to the world this week.

As I understand it, that's not by choice. Basically I've learned that giraffes hide their labor as long as they can because, in the wild, they don't want to tipoff predators. And I suspect that goes for a lot of species.

I just wish they could do a phone blast when it happens.

3/4 Morning Update
Pregnancy belly has never looked so good! Move over Beyonce -- there is a new bump in town!
April, as many of you observed, had a good night but very active. A few times, she appeared to perhaps contract, but we cannot confirm that was the true reasoning. We must remember a 6' 150# baby is performing acrobatic routines inside! Keepers report she has a large appetite this morning, and is enjoying morning treats.
Blistery cold temperatures, snow, ice, and wind will keep Oliver, April, and many of our other animals in safe spaces today. Temperatures will be rising in the coming days and warrant yard time and yield sunshine! Remember - inside days mean extra love and treats and enrichment to keep everyone happy!
www.ApriltheGiraffe.com is your source for all official things April and to view the true live stream! Have a great day!

I wonder what giraffe meat tastes like ?

When prepared with similar methods, it's much sweeter than regular beef but not as tender. If you've ever ate an antelope out of sage brush country, take that strong sage induced flavor and turn it sweet. It's definitely not for everyone. I believe you can still find it on a few menus around the country if you search for it.

You should have asked what Giraffe veal tastes like. ;)

As I mentioned in an earlier post I live 15 minutes from this zoo/park.
The locals are getting tired of this long drawn out story.
It started out fun/educational and now has become slightly controversial.
Since I do know the owners I can tell you they never ever expected this thing to blow up like this.
Also like the viewers they wish labor would've began closer to the prediction.
But Giraffes pregnancies can go on forever..well not forever but such a long period of time.
Yes the zoo likes the publicity..yes they are making a little cash on sponsorship.
But the zoo is getting ready for the summer season and the main owners child has some health problems.
I sat with the owners brother last week at a school event and the family wants nothing more than to get this behind them.
The Vets have assured them the Baby will be healthy so it will be a happy ending.
Come on April its your month!

They've been saying from the start the they weren't sure of the conception date, so the delivery date was an educated guess. They've also been very clear to educate people about how they're born, why the giraffes hide the delivery until the last second, and that they'll make sure we all know. Well those of us who signed-up for a delivery text.

Most of the controversy, at least IMO, comes for uneducated people who can't take that the giraffes are happy in their pen, and that kind of appreciate not having other predators trying to kill them.

But what are the locals suffering? It's not like there are people protesting outside. Or are they?
