Cutting Charles has brought out the "His career was wasted by Herm, Pioli, etc., just like Hali and DJ".

Seriously, this franchise has wasted careers since 1970.

We're talking about 1970 and later, so Jerrel probably doesn't count.

But now that you mention it, Dustin Colquitt counts and he's got a great argument. He punted a lot during the Pioli years, much more so than any other team would have done. So KC has given him a great platform to exhibit his craft. He wouldn't have as many great performances with a team like New England or Pittsburgh.

Allen and Montana were hall of famers so the franchise couldn't ruin them. I think DT ruined the chiefs more than vice versa with the Monday night Meltdown, not showing up for playoff games and dying.

Keeping DT instead of Neil was a no-brainer at the time, but in hindsight, with things turning out the way they did...

Been a few Chiefs who have left the franchise and gone on to be All-Pro (Rich Gannon, Joe Horn) and a handful who have won SBs (Neil Smith, Lawrence Tynes off the top of my head) since Allen retired.

But, to play Devil's Advocate, technically Herm and Pioli tried to prolong Charles career. Remember guys like Thomas Jones for example? Charles really didn't take off until RAC was HC.

However, I guess Charles was wasted if the super bowl is the measuring stick.

Hmmm, Rich Gannon didn't get a big contract until he went to Oakland. Joe Horn wasn't a top earner while here, either. For instance. I mean, they did receive a paycheck while here...but it's not like the Chiefs are going to back the truck up for you.

Unless you play safety or Guard.

Or if you're an average QB with a penchant for turnovers (Cassel) or throwing at the sidelines (Smiff).

castle at 63m is the 46th highest paid player in nfl history.
alex is 20th at 93m. Only 19 players who have ever played in the nfl have made more money in their careers.

I'm still confused Milk, what's the answer???

The answer is quite simple; the Chiefs have wasted every brilliant career, from DT to DJ, from Tony G to Jamal C, by having the endless carousel of has beens, never were, never will be and JAGs at the most crucial position on a football team...the QB.

Be it via front office hubris (Grbac vs. Gannon, trying to make Cassell a thing), blind ignorance (running down the 49ers; depth chart) or simple incompetence (Palko, Thigpen, Huard, etc.) Kansas City will always waste talent and be nothing more than a good team that never sniffs the SB.
