The salary thing makes me sad :(.

Okay, one team down, 30 more to go on our quest to a Super Bowl.

And that's just not right about Jamaal. I would go so far as to say it's [obscene gerund] insane.

there needs to be a 30 for 30 on Matt Cassel. How he made millions by never playing in college and a freak injury to the best QB ever lol

I posted this in another thread but it fits here.
Based on career earnings
castle at 63m is the 46th highest paid player in nfl history.
alex is 20th at 93m. Only 19 players who have ever played in the nfl have made more money in their careers.

Good for him.

He has been traded, like, twice, so it's nice he gets to stay in a place for a while.

Alex is actually a good qb. Not one that will likely win a SB but he's still a good quarterback. Matt Cassel is...donkeys

Good as in deserving 20th highest paid lifetime salary in HISTORY? I can name 20 chiefs off the top of my head who have been more value.

That number is a bit misleading, contracts and money go up every single year. So, yeah there have been way better players but they played a long time ago when a few million was a lot. Plus they both played the best paid position in the NFL.

That list (http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/rankings/earnings/) is only active players, otherwise Peyton would be #1.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Jay Cutler has earned more than Alex.

That's crazy. Any chance you have the link to share? I'd be interested in seeing where other positions rank on the list.

You missed this during the Pioli exorcism apparently. I pasted Pioli, Cassel, Haley, Clark and Quinn into Clash of the Titans. I called it "Clark and the Titans." Clark played Andromeda, Pioli was the Kraken, and Haley was Bubo. It opened with Quinn going into the lair of Mattdusa, the Gorgon, and cutting off his head. It ended as you'd imagine.

It was fucking epic. The youtube account it was on got nuked, though, and I lost the original file in a hard drive crash. :deevee:

You can make a case it's bad QBs that are killing the gsme. There's like 5 good ones while turds like Cassel are still in the league

Dane said a while back that football was losing arm talent to baseball and I agree. Not all pitchers could be qbs but guys like bumgarner and verlander would be big qbs.

Harvey too

Kershaw was a center on Stafford's hs team. He would have been a bad ass qb too. It seems like a lot starting pitchers nowdays are like perfect qb size.

This. Both Smith and Cassel have had long careers (and are currently still playing and collecting salaries) at the highest paid position in the game. After the first few seconds of "WTF?" wore off, it isn't all that surprising.

I think I'd argue it the other way. It's the freak of nature QBs that are ruining the game (through no fault of their own of course) because so much emphasis is on one position.

Used to be that teams were put together differently... some defensive powerhouses, some built around dominant o-lines and running games and others their QB and the passing game. Now it is often argued that the ONLY path to a championship is via the guy under center. Makes the overall state of the league much less interesting... especially since there are so few freaks to go around.
