Am I the only one hating these ads?

I understand monetizing the traffic you have on this site, but the ads are forcefully scrolling down to the bottom of every page and locking me there for a few seconds so I can't even scroll up. There are 2 banners of the exact same ad, and they always have some sort of sound / music going on. Very annoying, and if I have to fight to use the site it will quickly deter me from even coming here. Just wanted to offer that feedback.

It's forcefully scrolling down when I first load a page, and it seems to be doing every 30 seconds to a min, too, so I can't even read the threads without getting bumped down to the bottom of the page where the ad banners are. Then when I try to scroll back up it's locking me there for about 5 - 10 seconds and won't let me scroll back up.

Using the same browser I've used here for years, and I've never had this issue. Also never had these stupid things making so much noise either, and I don't have this problem with any other sites (except for the ones that deliberately do it.)

Had this problem this morning BAD, the page would automatically scroll to the bottom ads over and over and over... it finally stopped after about a half hour or so, but yeah it was very annoying

Its probably coming from the ad server.

One of my companies operates a lot of different sites and sometimes advertisers will embed code into the ads they serve from the ad serving companies that create pop-ups, scrolling, etc. it sometimes takes a few hours to a few days to remove the offending advertisers but doubt it has anything overtly to do with the site, though I could be wrong.

I was going to say something too. It does the same to me. Scrolls me to the bottom and auto starts.

The short answer is that yes, it's the ads. Unfortunately, AustinChief is the only one with access to the system that controls those, so we're kind of stuck until he can get around to investigating it.

Has everyone who is seeing this run malwarebytes to make sure it isn't Malware doing it? I have seen malware in the past that would key off from certain ads.

There should not be any FLASH ads anymore since Google says they discontinued them and replaced them with HTML5. Not sure what is up with sound/video playing.

If anyone is seeing this still, give me as much info as you can.

Only issue i had with ads was the whole chat box issue. It's still occurring. I know which ad it is, but i don't know what the ad is for since i "x" it off before it gets going. Whenever i can't type in a chat box, it's ALWAYS the same ad. I just click it off and CP goes back to normal.

Have you seen one today? I was getting it constantly yesterday, but haven't seen it today at all.

We need to try and hunt down what ad network it's coming from, so any extra info from someone who is getting it would be helpful.

Nothing today. They were up yesterday though. I recognize the graphic, but i never let it load in anymore so i don't recall the advertised product. Sometimes you'll even get two spawning at once.

I found the add that is triggering the text box issue. It's the Super Lotto Plus ad. It's a rectangular banner ad with a white/red loading reticle.

It takes forever to load in, and once it does it displays a small video w/ audio.

I tried typing in the text box during the ad and it kept kicking my cursor out of the box. Once you close the ad the text boxes work fine. It's one of the only ads with an "x" to actually close it.

All of these are FLASH ads which is strange because Google discontinued Flash ads months ago. My best guess is that this is a new version of an old Malware that would use the "turn.com" ad network to replace legit ads with ones that it gets revenue from. (Google "malware and turn.com")

There are a couple of possible solutions...

Run Malwarebytes and see if it persists (but it could be too new for that or embedded in a Chrome add-on so it won't show as malware)

Change your hosts file to block turn.com (a bit drastic)

Turn off autoplay of Flash for Chiefsplanet (here are instructions... https://www.technorms.com/37427/disable-flash-for-specific-websites-in-chrome-firefox )

I highly recommend the third option and setting the exception for Flash on Chiefsplanet to "ASK". That way you can still click Flash videos that people post but won't get annoying autoplays.
