I am athletically active and realized just a couple weeks ago that a soreness has emerged in my left Achilles that hasn't subsided.

I know there is no surefire way to make your Achilles perfectly fine, but I was wondering who here has had a sore Achilles before, and what did you do to get it back to 100%? Is 100% a dream from here on out, short of some big surgery?

Thanks in advance.

Rest, new shoes, stretch

I strained mine running on bad shoes and after two weeks rest, new shoes and stretching before any kind of running I don't have any pain.

Thanks!

I was actually worried that it was my shoes. I really don't like them a ton and I did feel like they were straining me.

Go to a running store and get a dude to analyze your stride and recommend some shoes.

You could get a transplant, but if the new one comes from a faster person then one of your legs will run faster than the other and you'll fall down a lot.

I have had one reconstructed and need to have the other done. I still run a lot just deal with the pain. Achilles really don;t heal on their own. Very little blood flow to it.

Stop being athletically active, eat whatever you want, and drink more beer. You'll thank me later.

I had some PT on my ankle and they gave me a stretch for it. I didn't know you should stretch it. I thought it would strain it but man those stretches changed my life.

Basically all it is is sitting on a chair. Leg at a 45 with a towel around the ball of your foot. Pull on the towel. If you straighten your leg it will stretch your calf.

All the running I did when I was younger I can't believe I never stretched my Achilles.

My Achilles pain was probably different than yours but I'd start with a new set of shoes and stretching frequently.

Hookers and blow may not heal your Achilles , but it certainly won't hurt it.

If it's just sore you wouldn't need surgery if there is some sort of chronic pain then you would have to go get it looked at. Place of the pain is the key. Remember I've had two heel spur surgeries.

Sleep in an immobilizer to keep it stretched.

I wouldn't stretch it. I am like 220 so when I walk for long periods mine gets sore rest and ibuprofen.

You probably have Plantar Fasciitis . I was prescribed to insert the Orange Good Feet insoles into my shoes. In addition I was told to do the running stretch where you put your hands against the wall and stretch.

To help with the inflammation freeze a water bottle and roll your foot over it.

Wait until your 50s! You can live in the gym from 16-49, 40 greets you with glasses, and 50 greets you with, well, sore *.*!

Ice does not get near enough credit. There is a reason many NFL players take ice baths because it is so healing in reducing inflammation. Most come out of ice baths feeling brand new.

Soak your ankle in a 5 gallon bucket of ice water for 3-30 minutes sessions a day and especially after exercising.

I switched to barefoot/minimalist running about 8 years ago to alleviate knee pain. Too much, too soon led to pretty bad right Achilles soreness. I just kinda struggled through it for a couple of years. Took time off here and there. Would start back slow and build gradually. Aleve helped here and there. Made a point to stretch calf muscles before and after running. (Focused on the muscles, not stretching the Achilles.) Eventually it got better and went away. Occasionally if I go all out now it might complain a little the next day, but then goes away.
