Around Neiman and College. Apartments under construction caught on fire, wind has blown embers to set about six or seven houses on fire. It's big and it's bad. Turn on local news, Johnny Rowlands is flying over it now.

It's so dry here departments are going out to calls every day. I couldn't imagine trying to get one stopped with a lot of vertical fuel and enough wind to let it jump from roof to roof.

Good thing that fire isn't here. This place is a powder keg.

8 alarms. Holy shit. I was driving home on east bound 435 and there were at least 5 fire trucks heading west. This was around 4:30.

They are saying that a 1 alarm fire typically dispatches around 12-15 fire fighters plus equipment.

Condolences for whomever lost their homes from the conflagration...

Anticipating another spike in my rent due to the supply loss from "luxury" units going up in smoke though.

I work for a local A/E firm. We have been working on the retail parcels. Another local firm did the multifamily parcels (the ones that burned).

Our work is located on the very north end of the development and being we are going in for permit, our buildings haven't gone vertical yet. Thus, nothing to burn.

Just a shame to see 9 months of construction go up in flames in less than a day.

Best I can tell it's just 3 firefighters with minor injuries but 17 homes burned.

We need rain and badly here. A few days of gentle showers would be so wonderful, but it will likely be torrents for a brief time, gulley washers, or an insignificant two minute sprinkle.

We had storms in the metro but it was moving so fast we didn't get much accumulated moisture.

Glad there were no lives lost.

I understand we have been dry, but I wonder if this will come down to arson by the developer of the apartments.

It really is amazing that someone didn't die. I only saw what everyone else saw on TV but I've never seen anything like that. The heat coming off the first building must have been insane.

I guess anything is possible but I don't expect arson to be the cause. We are so dry it could have been a worker flipping a lit cigarette at break time.

99.9% chance of this. No one commits arson in the middle of the afternoon. Construction sites are rife with fire hazards, espcially all wood multi-family. Some dumb roofer or plumber got his torch pointed the wrong direction.
