I was sitting in a place this morning thinking about recent 'do you know' threads, and realized that I would probably be completely baffled to learn that most are probably ignorant of his work. Do I CP with musically illiterate people or is this the norm now?

It's the offseason... perhaps sharing music would break some of the monotony around here.

mingus mingus mingus

My buddy at 12 got a standup bass and was into mingus. It improved his dexterity on an electric bass and he made a career of being a rock bass player. People disrespect jazz here but don't realize music they listen to is by people who like and were influenced by jazz.

Hell yeah.

For some reason, this also reminded me of the musician Sun Ra. Now THOSE were shows I think.

Some doofus thought it would be a good idea to try to discuss John Coltrane with his double doofus work buddies while on break, evidently.

I bet many of us understand the importance of jazz in the mosaic of American music, and how it may have influenced various artists we do like... but that doesnt mean we have to like the music itself

Garth Brooks is beloved by many country music fans, but that doesnt mean they're going to be fans of one of Garths biggest influences, KISS
