Wood drive it like I stole it.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is not a car for normal people. For starters, it comes standard with only one seat.
Because passenger seats, and passengers, weigh too much and would slow it down. Your friends aren't worth that.

Then there's the engine. The Demon's 840-horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged V8 is the most powerful V8 engine ever put into a regular production car. That makes the Demon the most powerful factory-produced muscle car ... ever.

That record had previously been held by the 707-horsepower Dodge Challenger Hellcat, which seems like a house cat compared with the Demon, a car just unveiled ahead of the New York International Auto Show.
The Demon has already recorded the fastest quarter-mile run by a factory production car ever, as officially certified by the National Hot Rod Association. Starting from a dead stop, a Demon made the drag strip run in just 9.65 seconds.

It also has the fastest zero to 60 time for any production car, according to Dodge, at 2.3 seconds. And the fastest zero to 30 time at 1.3 seconds. All of this leads to it having the most rib-crushing acceleration G-force of any production car. Helping that are the huge buckets of air the engine can suck in through the largest functional hood scoop made for any production car.
Motor Tend magazine has said that the record quickest zero-to-60 run by a factory production car, in its testing, had been by the Tesla Model S P100D. In the hands of Motor Trend test drivers, the Tesla accelerated to 60 miles an hour in 2.28 seconds. (There are various methods for measuring zero to 60 acceleration that can yield different results.)

The Demon is also the first production car able to accelerate so hard it can lift its front wheels off the pavement, a feat that has been certified by the Guinness Book of World Records. The front wheel can stay up in the air for almost three feet.

To get that kind of horsepower requires the installation of a performance package, called the "Demon Crate." But the performance figures without that are still close to this, coming in at 808 horsepower, said Tim Kuniskis, head of passenger car brands in North America for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
There's more. But it gets fairly technical, like the fact that the Demon is the first factory production with a transmission brake, something that makes for faster drag strip take-offs.

The Demon is, essentially, a drag race car that's legal to drive on public roads. Even its extra-sticky Nitto tires were designed specifically for this car. It's also available with extra-narrow "front runner" drag racing tires that can be bolted at the drag strip in place of the regular front wheels.

Along with the Demon's drag racing credentials, Kuniskis touted the car's capabilities on the street. The Demon can corner faster and stop more quickly than the Dodge's other performance cars, he said.
"On the street it's an amazing handling muscle car," he said in an interview following the presentation. "Then you can go to the track, put your race fuel in it, put your front runners on it and run faster than anybody else, then go back on the street and it's totally compliant."

The Demon comes standard with no passenger seats, front or back. Engineers saved 113 pounds in seats alone by doing that. Not having stereo speakers or an amplifier saved another 24 pounds. Passenger seats and a stereo can be ordered as options...

Weird gamble for Dodge to take after the Hellcats failed to move.

You can get a new Hellcat for more than $10K under sticker right now; after the initial sales surge, the rest just sat on dealer lots.

But maybe these are novel/limited enough that they'll sell better.

Frankly, I'm more interested in the Cherokee Trackhawk that takes all the Hellcat tech (including the engine) and puts it into a Grand Cherokee Summit.

One seat?

No thanks. What's the point of having a bad ass ride if you can't take a chick out on a date with it or show off to your friends?

I read that they are only going to produce 3300 of these. Maybe that's just initial production I'm not sure. 3000 for the US and 300 for our Canadian friends.

See - that's what the Trackhawk is for.

A) The Grand Cherokee is just a fucking sweet vehicle; I was shocked by how nice the build quality on those things is. Never expected it. It may fall apart in 20K miles but initial quality was on par with the lower end Germans.

B) How sweet would it be to just roast the shit out of a stock corvette on the line in your !@#$ing Jeep? And you can haul witnesses along with you to point out the windows and laugh. Then you can open up the panoramic sunroof and have them all stand up and point/laugh at the guy when he's in in your rearview.

It's just all win.

A lack of a passenger seat would limit your ability to take head from a random bar wench, no? :hmmm:

Interesting thing about the car is its set up for drag racing but its not NHRA safety compliant (most drag strips follow NHRA safety guidelines) for the power it has so you would have to add a host of safety items such as a cage to even run it at the track.

Yeah, I see no mention of at least driveshaft loop (slicks) or roll cage. Guess they're leaving something for the owner to do?:hmmm:

The 2017 redo of the 1968 Super Stock Hemi Barracudas and Darts.

They are some of the most valuable and sought after production cars of that era.

They came in primer, corning glass windows (light), no window cranks, seat from a van, etc.

You had to be connected at that time in order to even buy one.

My dad bought one of those new when he got back from Vietnam. He has had a lot of cool cars, a GTO, Chevelle SS, etc... and said that's the one he would like to have back the most.

Mopar ruled the muscle cars as far as pure power and looks went. They bring the most money nowadays when they come on the market. My favorite muscle car that I owned was a 1972 Corvette.

You're right. Word is they already have one that will deliver 1035hp with 100+ Octane. The internals are strong enough stock to handle it. But that's without the passenger seat...;)

For 3' distance as well. Guinness Book verified it as the only production car to lift front tire.

In order to get both front wheels up though the pass. seat needs to be eliminated. Anyone know if they can be ordered without?

My old Charger will break the hides loose rolling along up to about 30mph. With street tires I hit 2nd and sometimes it'll try to get away from me. That's how I warm my tires, 2nd gear rubber, lol.

But the Hellcat is suppose to be able to break em loose going a lot faster. That would be my only downfall cause I'd be using my left hand to gas/brake.

Now this Demon has got to be just a handful with able bodied people let alone some gimp like me, lol.
