Why would he not be healthy?

Hopefully, he will be back on track and terrorizing QB's this year. Houston is the key to our entire defense.

Yeah. Dorsey and Reid have both said so and there was video of him working out with AJ Green a couple months ago. No knee brace.

Did something happen over the offseason that was not posted?

That is what I was saying- the Chiefs and Houston both expect him to be a force this year. Unless something happens in camp- he should be back to his ALL Pro form.

Houston only stays healthy in non-playoff seasons.

I certainly hope so. Houston is the lead sled-dog that pulls and carries our shitty QB to more wins than losses.

If Houston doesn't finish this season healthy, get rid of him and draft his replacement.

In the last two seasons, we've seen Justin Houston in his All Pro form just once, and it came against the worst RT in the NFL.

Including playoffs, in his last 17 games he has 8.5 sacks, and 5 of those came in two games against Stephenson and the guy Stephenson replaced.

In the other 14 games: 3.5 sacks.

He's probably fucked.

He didn't play until week 11 and we still had "more wins than losses" without him. I'm not saying he isn't important, he is, but we won without him.

Completely different situations and you know it. Personally I think Houston ends up with 10-12 sacks and plays well against the run. He will never have another season like he had in 2015.

I definitely agree, and I will add that you need to have superstars throughout the lineup to be an elite defense. You just have to. However, if you couple that with solid depth and balance throughout the defense, you can afford to lose one or multiple superstars and still not be totally screwed.

Does it stink that Houston has been recovering from a shitty and nasty injury for the majority of his new contract? Absolutely. Using hindsight, should we have let him walk? Of course. But without the benefit of hindsight, the fact is most of the time you need something better than an above average defense to win a Super Bowl, and that means keeping stars when you find them. Denver didn't let go of Von Miller, and following that monster 2014 season, we were right to do everything we could to keep Houston.

Actually I don't think it is different, he had the same kind of knee problem where it just swells up and you can't play. His wasn't as bad obviously since he got on the field more, but it remains to be seen if he will ever be the same kind of player. He hasn't been for a while now.

He's still been in the recovery process.

If he's not 100% by the time the season starts then we can start to worry.

Except he was literally as effective as other high salary players like Alex Smith and Jeremy Maclin while only playing with a handful of games.
