To make it clear I would want to be an invisible observer in a flying pope mobile that could fast forward through the boring parts and wouldn't alter history:

1. The Mongols conquest of Baghdad and Southern Russia. The Mongols have always fascinated in how they almost conquered everything that didn't require sea travel, their efficiency and ruthlessness.

2. Hitler's ascension into power.

3. Too much to narrow down into one event but what went on behind the scenes in WWII. I'd have to brush up and prioritize on this one.

4. Cortes’s conquering of, oh, let's just go with south America and above.

5. How I made it home in one piece a couple nights while in college walking through downtown Pittsburgh by myself.

If I were going back and staying back. . . . I'd probably start up in Deadwood right before everyone knew about the gold. Scoop up enough gold to live on, head back east and work with to right people to bring electricity and railroad west, then hang out with a young Tesla and warn him about Edison.

4. Various battles of Caesar's Gallic campaign, his ascent to power and assassination, and Antony's actual speech (I'm assuming for all this I'll have some sort of translation device :D )
5. I want to know what actually happened at Roanoke.

Going back by century, I'd go with:

2000s - Seeing the special forces raid on bin laden's compound
1900s - V-E day
1800s - Gettysburg Address
1700s - Signing of the Declaration
1600s - Something big in Versailles
1500s - Hang with Leonardo da Vinci for a while
1400s - Probably Columbus' return to Spain
1300s - No idea. Probably not anything near the Black Death.
1200s - Travel around with Marco Polo
1100s - Maybe go on a crusade
1000s - Travel with William the Conquerer to Hastings
900s - No idea. Join the Vikings as they rape and pillage, I guess.
800s - No idea. Maybe join up the with the Vikings again.
700s - Watch the Battle of Tours, maybe.
600s - No idea.
500s - No idea.
400s - No idea. I don't really want to see Rome fall. Maybe I'd hang out with some Roman emperor.
300s - No idea. Probably hang out with a Roman emperor, perhaps one of the crazy ones.
200s - See above.
100s - See above.
0s - See above.

I very much do NOT. Work is hard now and was hard then.

I would be down for some of the planning and engineering, but the actual labor, out.

As far as me, there are way too many to choose from. In addition to a bunch of others listed.

I'd probably watch Hiroshima from the Enola Gay.
KU winning all their titles.
SB IV
Jordan's flu game
D-Day but I'm not sure I could stomach it.
Louis and Clark.
Probably hang out with Sinatra in the Rat Pack days.
I'd love to see open medieval war in Europe. That has always fascinated me.
I'd love to hang out at the airstrips where they tested all the neat planes.

It's 1969:
On Jan. 24th I go to Madison Square Garden and see Jim Morrison and the Doors.

On January 30th I'd go to the top of Apple Corps headquarters and watch and listen as the Beatles played their last concert together.

On February 15th I cross the pond to The Town Hall in Birmingham, England to see T.Rex open for David Bowie

On April 18 I go to Memphis, TN and watch Jimi Hendrix open for the Monkees.

On April 27th I go to Mother's Club, Birmingham, England to see Pink Floyd and try to talk my way into going into the studio the next day as they are recording Ummagumma.

On July 4th-5th I head to Atlanta for the Atlanta International Pop Festival to see Led Zeppelin, Spirit, Butterfield Blues Band, Janis Joplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Johnny Winter and a dozen more artists.

On July 31 I head to the International Hotel in Vegas for the opening show of Elvis Presley's 1969 Comeback Tour

On August 8th I'd stand at the corner of Abbey Road and Alexandra Road outside Abbey Road Studios and get my photo taken with the Beatles as they crossed the street.

From August 15th to 18th I'm at with 400,000 freaks at The Woodstock Festival.

On October 19th I make it to The Electric Factory in Philly to see The Who.

Oh yeah, gotta see some football:

January 12 let's go to the Orange Bowl in Miami to see Broadway Joe beat the Colts in Super Bowl III.

October 4th we head to Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama and watch Ole Miss quarterback Archie Manning complete 33-of-52 passes for 436 yards and two touchdowns and run 15 times for 104 yards and three touchdowns. Yet Ole Miss loses to Alabama 33-32.

And on On December 20 we brave the cold in New York City as Willie Lanier makes a passionate plea for the Chiefs defense to make a valiant goal line stand against the New York Jets in the AFL Divisional playoffs. If not for that stand, the Chiefs don't make it to Super Bowl IV.

Yeah, I've got too much time on my hands tonight....

Nice one. Bob Marley's biography is fascinating. One of the best music bios I have read. He was basically an orphan. They made their own instruments and slept on the beach. It is a shame he died so young, he was becoming one of the biggest stars in the world. I would go back and make him go to the doctor when his toe first became infected and turned into cancer.

Going back in time there would be several other moments I would like to see that has to do with music.

Rush's first show in the basement of a church and also the first with Neil Peart.

First time Jimmy Page and John Paul got together with Bonham and Plant. To hear that first song they played together, knowing they would change music forever.

Would like to go back and hang out with Jimi in the New York clubs before he was a star. Then see him at Monterey and Woodstock. Pop in and warn him of his pending death, if changing history would be possible. Oh, the music he would have created.

Watch Van Halen when they first got with Roth and were playing in people's backyards.

See the US Festival- so many great bands.

Hang out with Jim Morrison when he first joined the Doors. Watch him pen future classics.

Sit around Sun Studio as all those Kings of Rock worked on their music. Ride along with Elvis in his delivery truck and listen to him talk about the future- beg him never to sign with the Colonel and stick to creating music. Have a beer with a young Johnny Cash.

Pop in at the Winter dance party and keep Buddy Holly from making that phone call reserving an airplane for him, Bopper and Valens. Holly and Valens would have changed music history if they had lived. Holly already had a huge impact on the Stones and Beatles- and Valens was just getting started.

Stand outside the Dakota and keep John Lennon from getting shot to death. Kidnapped Yoko so John would have never met her. The Beatles had so much more music to make.

Go back and watch Ray Charles as he is learning piano- tell him to stay away from needles. Be at that club when James Brown stood up and sang for the first time. Listen to Little Richard developing his style as he changed from fry cook to rock star.

Stop Cortney Love from murdering Cobain.

And more recent- save Chris Cornell from his untimely fate.

History talks a lot about wars and battles, and that's understandable. They're often tipping points in history. But like you, I don't really have an interest in seeing a lot of trauma.

If we want to avoid major bloodshed, there are still a lot of interesting options. A day at the pyramids has already been mentioned, and that's a great idea. It would also be fun to hear James Madison presenting his concept for the Constitution in Philadelphia. Or how about watching da Vinci paint the smile on the Mona Lisa? A royal wedding in the French court would be interesting, or how about sailing into Japan with Commodore Perry's fleet?

The last one makes me realize too how western our thinking is. I bet all sorts of interesting stuff happened in Japan and China and India over the past 3,000 years, and I know almost nothing about it.

If you went back in time and warned every Native American about their eventual fate, it would have taken a hell of a lot longer for Europeans colonize the Americas.

Ultimately, I think the outcome would have been the same though. They'd have had no defense against disease.

As far as things that I would like to go back in time for, first on my list would be the lifetime if Christ. I think it would be great to hear him preaching the seron on the mount, to be there when he fed the 5000, to see him perform his miracles and just to shake his hand. It would also be interesting to see the Garden of Eden before the fall of man. To see a perfect world not corrupted by sin. I would go back about 4.6 billion years ago to watch the Earth being formed by collisions of disc-shaped clouds of material that also formed the Sun. Would have been amazing to watch.

I would like to go with you. And say I told you so when nothing happens. Then I would take you to creation and together we could witness God doing it all, just as the Bible says.

I would go back 600 years ago when the earth was really made and prove both of you wrong. To watch the rocky mountains sprout from tiny pebbles into what they are now over 600 years time would be pretty amazing.

My daughter has had every recommended vaccination in her life. I don't agree with those who refuse to vaccinate their kids.

I just prayed for an invisible vaccine shield for my kid. JC hooked it up and now I'm saving mad money on those doctor visits for the baby. Don't know why more people don't go that route.

Relax; Alex is still the QB, so not much excitement in the GDT. Still, I have to keep up on the progress of the rest of the team so as to assure that Mahomes inherits a quality squad to lead.

Excellent choice. I'd like to go back to WWII and the Korean war. Watch my dad in both. He was a combat engineer in both wars and was behind enemy lines for several weeks in Burma. Never got to talk to him about any of that, he died when I was 6 months old.

NOt a tough one there.

The settlers went native and lived on an island nearby. You can probably guess what the natives called the island.

It happened all the time. I mean, we don't KNOW 100%, but I think we can be pretty confident what happened.

But really, good list. I'd be more interested in the punic wars, but still. Good list.

The Isle Of White?

I'd make a couple of pit stops on the way back from the historical visits to bet on sports in Vegas. Betting on Buster Douglas to beat Tyson would probably be my first choice.

Look up James Clavell...

It's great reading if you're interested...

Shogun is my favorite, but Tai Pan is great too

Looooooong reads though
