I'll agree to an extent. Haley was eager to get his 1st HC job so he was going to agree to anything. At that time it was Pioli would tell him how it is. Haley went to the playoffs with Matt Cassel. That says something. He was a bit of a hot head for the position at the time. That didn't help him at all. That being said, if he had Smith instead of Cassel he might still be here.

Haley very well is likely as poor of a HC as he demonstrated himself to be in Kansas City. The only thing that casts doubt on this is the fact that he clearly was forced into Cassel.

With regards to the OP, the next GM will be a Howie Roseman type who does nothing more than figure out contract financing.

Who will be the Kansas City Chiefs next GM?

Who will be the Kansas City Chiefs next GM? that’s the question you’re asking after you get over the shock of the news that John Dorsey is out as the GM of the Chiefs. The Chiefs made the new official this afternoon with nothing else like who would replace him.

A few early names:

Let’s talk about this Dorsey thing

WHAT IS GOING ON?

Andy Reid: Yeah, I said it. He’s done it before in Philly. However, Reid has said in Kansas City that he enjoys being just the coach and not the front office guy. Was that just talk or what? UPDATE: Sam says this isn’t happening

Brett Veach: He works in the Chiefs front office now and was reportedly up for the Bills GM job. He seems like an obvious internal candidate. Also has ties to Andy Reid.

Mike Borgonzi: Like Veach, he’s in the front office now. This would be an internal promotion. Field Yates mentioned him.

Chris Ballard: Oops. He’s the Colts GM now. This is why it’s hard to believe the Chiefs had been planning this for a while. They just let Ballard, a very talented personnel guy, leave for the Colts earlier this year.

Someone else connected to Andy Reid: Who? I’m not sure but it’s the NFL so it’s all about connections. Tom Heckert was a name that was thrown around when Dorsey was hired in 2013.

The Chiefs job should be a good one, a very good one. The Chiefs roster is in good shape, Andy Reid is one of the best coaches in the NFL and they have a young quarterback.

I don't know that this will be viewed as such a prime opening. We don't have a first rounder next year, have a new unproven QB that some one else picked and the owner approves of, and the owner may fire you without any warning during the middle of the offseason when no jobs are available. Our next GM is going to be unproven and probably be on a very short leash in terms of independent authority.

Brett Veach:
Veach seems like the easiest and most obvious choice. He’s the teams co-director of player personnel and has worked with coach Reid since his Philly days in 2007.

Veach emerged as a GM candidate after interviewing for the Buffalo Bills’ vacant GM job back in May. I’d put money on him as the most likely candidate for the Chiefs’ GM position.

Mike Borgonzi:
The Chiefs’ other co-director of player personnel is Borgonzi. He has been in Kansas City since 2009 and worked his way up the chain to where he is now.

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports mentioned Borgonzi as an internal candidate for the Chiefs’ GM job.

Chris Shea:
Shea is the team’s salary cap and legal executive and has been in the NFL for 18 seasons. He has worked for several teams in their scouting departments and was recently hired by the Chiefs from Philadelphia.

Russ Ball:
Ball is currently the Green Bay Packers’ vice president of football administration and player finance. He has been in the league for 27 years and spent 10 seasons with the Chiefs from 1989-98 as a strength and conditioning coach and later as an assistant to Marty Schottenheimer.

Ball is also a local guy, growing up in Moberly, Missouri and graduating from the University of Central Missouri.

Don Gregory:
Gregory, the senior executive scout for the Carolina Panthers, also has ties with the Chiefs. He was in Kansas City for five seasons in the early 2000s serving as a national scout.

Overall, Gregory has been working in the front office of professional teams in the NFL, CFL and XFL since 1986.

Scott Pioli:
Yeah, no. Just kidding.

I think the Chiefs should definitely ask for interviews with these men:

Will McClay, Dallas
Joey Clinkscales, Oakland
George Paton, Minnesota Vikings
Eliot Wolf, Green Bay Packers

It's a no-brainer for them to interview Veach and Borgonzi but if the Chiefs pass on Veach, it's likely he'll be gone after this season.
