Important 4 game stretch against the Tigers. Great opportunity to try to take 3 out of 4 against them and to add on some separation between Detroit and KC.

That's because there are expectations on this team, and they have woefully underperformed. So no, I don't think it's getting old because it's legitimate.

And they have been woefully underperforming since the beginning of the season. Alex's mysterious slump. Escobar swinging at balls and taking strikes. Sal swinging at pitches that isn't even in the same zip code of the strike zone.

Got pitchers who LOVE to nibble on corners instead of manning up and challenging the hitters every now and then. Ends up walking too many batters.

They've got to do something with either Moss or Gordon's offensive failure. Your DH can't be a .190 hitter. Moss reminds me of a guy the Royals brought in as a DH many moons ago named Mike Jacobs. He could hit the ball a ton, when his bat actually touched the ball. He was good for three K's per night. Gordon....well, I don't know what the **** is wrong with Gordon. Maybe he's playing hurt, but he seems to move OK in the outfield. I don't know. He just seems lost at the plate. Hard to carry both of those sure outs in the lineup night after night after night. And Esky has just now started to hit a little. But now Moose, Cain and Hosmer are all slumping. Bad bad deal.

The first month of the season was derailed by a historically bad offense, and that's pretty much the long and short of this season so far. They've recovered though. The goal is to get around .500 and be healthy by July 1st, and despite all of their obstacles they've done that.

Our best pitcher missed 5 weeks on the disabled list and our 2nd best pitcher died in the offseason. Combined with the historically bad offense we saw, this season could be going a lot worse. A lot worse. I'd agree they're going to need a piece or two to have a chance to get over the hump though.

The Chiefs haven't done shit in decades, but you'll still find people defend them to the death.... they can beat a team destined for a 2 win season and if someone isn't terribly impressed, homers will actually say shit like "some people will never be happy!!"

I know the miserable fucks here probably don't even make up the majority, they're just the whiny majority.... but, you'd think with some, ya know, actual success, homers would have come out of the woodwork (even if it's not a Royals board). Sure, the knee-jerk shit will always exist, I'd just never really expect people to wallow in every negative play while wanting to break up a team that's done so much for the city.

That's not really knee jerk though. That's honestly probably a pretty accurate assessment. There's a difference between saying "this team sucks and everything is fucked!"(a perspective I have certainly had at times)and some honest appraisal. This is a streaky team that plays really hot or really cold. That adds up to probably close to an inbetween 78-82 win team. Could they streak a bit more on the good side and win 86-88? Sure. They could just as easily go the other way and win 73. I've given up being to attached to the W/L record until late August.

Yes, I agree with you on the part on the first month of the season was derailed by a bad offense. But that bad offense is still persisting 3 months later with no resolution to either the LF position, DH, or SS position. And Dayton or Ned cannot stand here and tell me that the offense is going to get better, because they had 3 months to show for it, and still no improvement at all. Worse, they're not running like they used to in order to manufacture runs. That takes away their ability to come back in games.

I know that our 2nd best pitcher died in the offseason, and that the Royals were trying to sign players to help the team, but so far, every FA signing this year has been a complete failure all around.

Moss is just like what George Blowfish said, Mike Jacobs. Almost guaranteed 3 K's. Hammel and Wood just have been absolute disasters and I felt the front office overreacted in the Ventura situation. Now they're having to deal the consequences of handing out contracts to players who weren't that good anyways. Hammel makes $9 million next year. Wood makes $6.5 million next year. Finally, Moss makes $7.25 million next year. Those three jokers takes up almost 20% of the payroll, assuming the payroll is at the $100-120 million range.

It really just feels like there's too many gaps in the pitching to hold up a long stretch run of wins. That, in my opinion, is this teams biggest deficits. Especially if Vargas regresses.

The offense is always hot or cold, for long streaks. Been that way for 4 years.

If it wasn't for the sun, we'd probably be looking at a 7 game losing streak right now.

It's about time to commit to selling and attempting to reload the farm. This team just doesn't seem like it has the ability to pull off a 2014 type run . . . .

Agree. Trade em all (except Salvy)

It really just feels like there's too many gaps in the pitching to hold up a long stretch run of wins. That, in my opinion, is this teams biggest deficits. Especially if Vargas regresses.

The offense is always hot or cold, for long streaks. Been that way for 4 years.

I wasn't too worried about the pitching. The starting pitching has always been average anyways, but I was curious as to see how the pen will perform. They have... done OK, for a lack of better word.

Offense has been horrendous.

.248 BA - 11th out of 15 teams in the AL.
.300 OBP - 15th out of 15 teams in the AL.
.409 SLG - 12th out of 15 teams in the AL.
.709 OPS - 14th out of 15 teams in the AL.

This is a far cry to the 2014 and 2015 teams.

Vargas is just migrating back to the mean. He was never going to be a legit CY Young candidate. He had a helluva first half, but that's just not who he is. I expect we'll see a few more outings like this, but he'll get back to being what he's traditionally been in his career - a solid #3.

This is just a flawed team. Not enough pitching, not enough offense.......just an average team. That's okay. I suspect we'll play this hand out for the balance of the season and see if we can get both lucky and hot. I got no problem with that.

In the mean time, enjoy the roller coaster. It sucks right now, but it'll get better.

So given all that, how in the hell are we under-performing expectations? Sounds like a .500 team to me.

Were you expecting Gordon to be batting a buck ninety two with a OPS+ of 56? I sure wasn't.

Were you expecting Moss to be batting a buck ninety one with a OPS+ of 68? I sure wasn't either.

I was expecting Gordon and Moss to be near or at their career averages with a OPS+ of 106. If they both were performing at their rate, then that would have netted the Royals a few more wins here and there.

Edit: Just to clarify, I am not upset at you, I'm just upset about the situation the Royals are in.

My point is that 3 months into the season, why do you still have high expectations from this team?
