Lol. It's a two-year contract which he just signed a year ago. And sure he had a great season last year but at 34 years old he could very well have a sharp decline anytime soon.

If there's any problem with 34-year old Penn this year, their offense could take a hit. I'm thinking they maybe should have drafted a tackle earlier in the draft this year instead of going all defense early pretty much.

He's actually right about average, good pass protector, poor run blocker. Have a couple of rookies that have the physical tools, but are both raw as hell.

Penn is making $7mil and most likely holding out for an extension since he's going to be FA next spring. Has the most leverage right now to get a longer contract and more $'s. Doubt this lasts long though since we did just open up about $6mil in cap space with a couple cuts.

We are far from being cap strapped because of the smart way Reggie has worked contracts to be pay as you go with most having little up front.

After the Howard cut Raiders at 13 million under this year and 18 million next year- They'll rollover about 10 million into next year leaving Oakland at damn near 30 million under- plenty of room for Mack- then the following year Oakland will be sitting at 50 million under, plent of room to sign Cooper

Penn is making 7 million- He's a FA after this year.. he wants an extension, he wants another 2-3 years, he said its not about the money- he just wants a chance to win a SB with the Raiders before he retires in 3 years

Penn's on a one-year deal and looking for a long-term contract. If the Raiders want to give him one, they will. If they don't, he'll be gone after this season. All fairly straigthforward.

Now, combine that with their ability to fine his ass $30,000 per day and suddenly he doesn't really seem to have them by the nesmonds anymore, now does he?

The Raiders can do what they want to do here. They can decide they weren't going to bring him back in '18 anyway so their relationship with him doesn't matter and fine the shit out of him. Or they can go ahead and give him the long-term deal they were going to have to give him next season anyway (the only distinction being a bit of frontloading).

Much ado about nothing. He's not going to miss any games; dude's too old to do that shit and if he gets hurt because he jaked camp, any chance at a serious payday at 35 yrs old next season will vanish. He'll rattle his saber a bit but if the Raiders tell him to fuck off and play, he'll play. They'll waive the fines and time will march on.

At least one Raider fan isnt a total delusional retard...I copied this from a Raider forum.

First game of the year vs the Saints. Winning drive. We faced a 4th and 5 at the 18 yard line. Carr threw the ball well out of bounds towards Richard, game over, but refs called pi and kept us alive.

Our second win vs the Titans. They called Lewan for unnecessary roughness on the 3 yard line. They then still completed a pass into the end zone for the game tying score but they called Andre Johnson for a very questionable offensive pi, then on the Titans final attempt Carrie grabbed Harry Douglas in the end zone, but no call.

I think it was win #3 vs the Ravens that they could have won it with a FG at the end. They were one first down away from fg range and Joseph I think destroyed a receiver to end the game. As that happened live I thought for sure a flag would come in for unnecessary roughness. No flag.

Other games I can think of, PI against Tampa that gave the offense a 1st and allowed them to tie the game. Also, the many questionable calls against Houston.

We had 4th and 3 from the Bucs 5, Carr throws the ball out of the right corner of the end zone over Crabtree's head. Refs threw a holding call on Roberts who was on the opposite side of the field away from the play.

If you can count and do simple addition, which I doubt... that's 5 games decided by late questionable officiating. They were 7-9 the season before...add five more wins and voilà...you have a magical 12-4 record.

That was the old Raiders. You know back when they dominated in the league. They have nothing but goodie goodies now. In fact they haven't had any real issue players besides Aldon Smith over the past few seasons and even he didn't play there long. So your perception is quite off.

You also see how the NFL uses PI (calls and non-calls) to dictate outcomes...that was five late officiating blunders that all helped ONE team.

I cant remember KC ever getting one win from lopsided officiating...let alone five in a single season.

That is the Raiderfan failsafe excuse...look at the photo above and justify it.

It's WHEN the penalties are called and the final impact that matters...calling a holding in the 1st quarter isn't the same as a PI on 4th down that would end the game. Taking off a late TD isn't the same as offsides...

Raiders outscored their opponents 42-0 in the final 3 minutes...if you read what I re-posted from a Raider forum..you see why. They took points off the Titans game, allowed the game to continue vs. the Saints & Bucs (4th down PI)...didnt call a UR penalty vs. the Ravens. Called the Texan short 3 times in row... That is a bloated stat that the officiating created...

At least one Raider fan saw the same shit I did...and was honest enough to point it out.

If the refs dont hand you another 5 games this season...you wont even make the Wildcard.

The only good thing for you...is the NFL hype-machine is still trying to fool the Vegas taxpayers. You'll get at least 3 games (if not more) handed to you late.

NFL knows it has a drought of young QBs to market...

Here are some quotes form the Saints board in week one...Payton filed a formal complaint to the League (like asking a wolf for protection)

"The Pi call was one of the worst I've ever seen. Un fing believable"

"I can't believe this game!! Man the refs screwed us!!"

"a horrible PI followed by a non called OPI"

"Well the refs continued the Oakland drive with one of the worst PI calls you'll ever see. As far as NFL rules it was perfect great coverage just as the announcer said."

This is some Raider fan quotes after the Titans sham....

"This isn't the first time THIS season we have been given a big decision in the final minute."

"That ****ing CBS commentator is such a ****, first he says Andre Johnson (Titans) didnt extend his arms on the penalty now he says that was a penalty on us."

Interesting that in both cases, the announcers were calling out the officials live...I'll keep digging from the other rigged games.

"Cheated on the spot on 3rd down and cheated on the spot on 4th down. Unreal."

"I think the refs have been bought by the Mexican government, incredibly."

"I never complain about the refs but this is unbelievable."

"We arn't going to beat the Raiders AND the Zebras at the same time."

"the NFL's clear agenda on who they want to win and succeed."

"This loss goes on the NFL and the officiating crew....I cant believe they had the audacity to call that game the way they did on NATIONAL TV in front of a NATIONAL AUDIENCE"

"wow never seen a game so awfully officiated in my life"

"We won plain and simple but the refs and the NFL gift wrapped this game for them with unbelievable blatant calls"

"Absolutely disgusted. But this time it's not because of the Texans. I am absolutely disgusted by the obvious bias against the Texans by the NFL and officiating crew. If they have already chosen a winner for the game, there is nothing that can be done to change the ending. "

"We've all watched games and a call or two go your way or against, but this game, wow. I can't help think that the NFL powers wanted the Raiders to win in front of their (home town) of Mexico."

"Lots of blown calls all in favor of the Raiders in every quarter"

"We have been robbed this game that we deserved. I'm so frustrated. I'll probably need to get off the Internet before I get in trouble."

" these have to be union NFL refs. NFL has to be in on the fix or these refs would lose their jobs."

"Its time to sell all 4 of my PSLs...these games are fixed. The refs have full control...and I thought the NBA was bad. "

"I do not no what to say."

"Tell me this isnt rigged some how ? Im mad as hell at this BS !!”

"This is becoming as realistic as WWF."

"That was a first down. Heck it was a first down on the play before. Worst game I've watched in officiating."

"Before the game, I was a little puzzled how the Raiders had won seven games. They surely can't be that good. Then I saw the refs, and now I fully understand." ''

It's interesting.... the pattern that fans from multiple teams arent just pissed about ticky-tack officiating like normal...they are collectively saying "its the worst I've ever seen".

Mike Silver isn't the most reliable reporter but...

Asked about the ongoing absence of Donald Penn, Silver didn't sound like he's expecting to see the left tackle at team headquarter in the immediate future.

“My reporting has not suggested that Donald Penn is coming back,” Silver said.

“I believe the only way you would see him come back at this point would be if there was, let's say, understanding between the two parties (that) though a new deal is not done that moment that they are on the path to completing (one).

“My understanding is that that's not the case,” Silver continued. “So right now, I think we're still in a holding pattern and it's very much an impasse.”

As Silver pointed out, the mood surrounding the situation — for Penn, his teammates and his coaches and the front office — is only going to get more stressful.

“Well, holdouts are supposed to be uncomfortable, right?” Silver said. “So, everybody's supposed to be getting jumpier as it gets closer to the season.”

“That's the idea from Donald Penn's perspective and that's the idea from the team's perspective – who's most uncomfortable and who has the leverage?”http://www.957thegame.com/articles/silver-raiders-penn-impasse-holdouts-are-supposed-be-uncomfortable

If Penn misses a significant amount of time, the Raiders are fucked

Osemele played some LT for Baltimore didn't he? I know Oakland payed him like one, but either way that's going to be a huge blow to an elite line

Dear Penn:

You are worth 10X the money they are paying you. If they offer you less than that, tell them to fuck off and hold out for the entire season!

Best,

The KC Chiefs fans

.....AAAAAND just like that, his hold-out is over.

Raiders LT Donald Penn has ended his holdout.
This was an expected move. Penn missed the first 26 days of training camp over a dispute with his 2017 salary. He didn't get a raise, but talks could open up now that he's back. Penn has a chance to play in the Raiders' third preseason game. Aug 23 - 5:09 PM

Ya don't fuckin' say...

Penn didn't hold shit for leverage here, as badly as folks wanted it to be so. He wasn't going to miss time and the Raiders were under no obligation to fold under for an old LT with one year left on his deal.

Now they'll maybe circle back and extend him, but only if they wanted to do so anyway.

This went exactly how I figured it would.

The dude is 34 years old. The wheels could fall off at any time.

Hopefully, the Raiders extend him and he shits the bed.
