View Full Version : Chiefs -- Let's discuss Kareem Hunt's ceiling

So yeah - to me; I'd say this kid may wind up being not only good - but great! How do you think he'll be - let's say a year or 2 down the road...?

I like him too - as a person - seems nice to me.

Dude seems to play into contact like Marshawn Lynch. Breaks tackles, trucks along. I think he could be next in line for the KC RB throne, except his ceiling is much higher because he will be playing with a quarterback that can open up the run game for him.

Yes I do like this post - nice job. He's fairly ripped. He's certainly not huge - but big enough - I wouldn't mind him working closely with a trainer to add a few more LBS. But yes - tonight was an exciting night.

I don't think Barry Sanders was the fastest but he could make something happen out of nothing and had low center of gravity that was hard to take down with his balance. Not saying he is Barry Sanders but putting Barry Sanders as his ceiling.

Floor Benjarvis Green EllisHe's already better than law firm. Ellis' only redeeming quality is that he ran really hard into whatever was in front of him before falling down. No vision, balance, or patience.

I actually think the Lynch comparison could be close. Hunt perhaps doesn't hit as hard, but he's going to punish defenders and still manage to stay on his feet. A bit of a Beast Mode Lite.

I think it's a little too early to be able to predict his ceiling.

He has some wiggle, has great hands, is a nice outlet receiver and has very good balance and some power.

But his vision is hot and cold. I saw him run into his lineman a few times but yet in space, he was much better.

It's probably just lack of reps and experience but I'd cool the jets on Emmitt Smith comparisons.

As a guy who's wanted to draft a HB every year for the last 30 years I do have a strong opinion on this one.

Hunt was not my 1st (honestly, about 4th) choice but it's not hard to see what they saw in him.

Runs heavier than his weight, has INCREDIBLE BODY BALANCE, low center of gravity (doesn't go down with arm tackles or lazy big hits,) and reminds me of a less solid Tomlinson...

I agree with both of these takes.:thumb:

He is quicker than he is fast with great balance after contact, with great vision and hands but IMHO the only thing I would disagree with about the ES comparison is that Emmitt could take it to the house when given the seam. Both Emmitt and Terrell Davis had average 40 times ranging 4.5 to 4.6 BUT they had "game speed" that extra burst when given the opportunity, turning into a 4.4 type of runner for a brief period. Not every back has that ability. I have not seen this in Kareem Hunt yet but maybe it is just dormant for now.

Yes it was a nice run but proves my point that he does not have "game speed"(burst to take it to the house) Jamal is gone on that run if he is given that seam.

The question of someone's ceiling at this super early stage in their career kind of invites wildly optimistic comparisons. It's hard to set much of a ceiling until you've ruled a few capabilities out so the ceiling starts near infinity and comes down over time until it meets actuality at the end of a guy's career. More or less.

Have to see more of him. If he can show patience and let blocks\holes develop, he looks very Priest Holmes like with his catching ability.

Also he has to be able to block....

Buehler445

He's a guy that can help move the chains, but I don't see enough speed to compare him to Priest, who himself wasn't all that fast.

Yeah we've been damned spoiled with Charles.

That being said Reid can seem to scheme space for RBs. So top end speed isn't n necessarily a must.

To me it comes down to 2 things:
1. Staying healthy. We can't seem to do that at RB
2. Pass blocking. That is important to Reid.

If he does those 2 things he will be productive.

If you have a franchise QB, then you don't need difference makers at RB, who, at best only make a difference of maybe making or missing the playoffs.

He doesn't need to be fast anyway. If he can be a solid pass catcher and consistent chain-mover he'll be a great contributor.

Sometimes reminds me of Tomlinson.

All of these guys have looked really good so far. This is going to be a special running back class

Fournette had 31 yards on 9 carries against a team that didn't suit up 40 players (all of which are guys who will actually make the team) and has otherwise been injured.

It may also be that New England's front seven is much worse than expected... but, yeah.. it was an amazing game.

People who thought he was slow and plodding have definitely been proven wrong.

That edge rush in the 4th where Kelce et al closed down the edge was awesome....the defence was gassed...i dont think they are worse than expected - they were gassed - nice to see the shoe on the other foot for a change.

Does he like Nacho's?

Let it go. Every time Holmes is mentioned a dumbass Nacho comment comes out of your stinky fingers.

Time to let Holmes off the mat for that crap. It's been like 13 years.

He seems like a good kid with a good personality too. Which could come in handy if he shoots to stardom. Maybe he can rub off on our problem child Kelce a little.

I'm seriously wondering if Hunt is going to get 2000 yards in his rookie year. The only reason he won't is because Reid won't give him enough touches.

Yeah, I'd say it's a valid comparison...

Hunt runs very hard. His career will be short imo. Similar to Larry Johnson's. He could win an MVP and have a six year career.

I agree. His style doesn't lend to longevity. He will be very good while Mahomes becomes a star in the league.

Andy will throw him the ball like 9 times a game behind the LOS to make up for it though eventually.

Not at all, IMO.

However, I think defenses play him the same way as Portis in late game situations. Load the box and if he breaks free, we can catch him. Then he gets to the second level and it's too late.

I feel much better with you saying it will be short. This guarantees him a nice long career.
