View Full Version : Football KC Chiefs @ NE Pats up to a 9 point spread on most sites

So, I have been following this for a couple weeks...the spread is now very solidly 9 points after it was hovering between 8 & 9...

My question to you gamblers out there:

Is +9 points to the Chiefs enough of gift to make you want to throw some serious coin on this game?

Or even a little coin?

What say you ChiefsPlanet?

Personally its getting to the point where I might have to drop a little coin on this...I mean...I dont EXPECT the Chiefs to win but I do not expect them to lose by 10+

Am I homerbonin' ?

Nearly double digits against a good team like the Chiefs is pretty surprising. I think the "legend" of the Patriots is getting a bit out of hand. They still need to break in Cooks and Dorsett, figure out how they generate a pass rush, and it's not clear that their left tackle is fully healthy. I mean, Jesus...

yah man i mean the only way to lose this bet is a 10+ point loss...even a 9 point loss pushes the bet and you get your money back...and losing by 1-8 is a win...

I dont think we lose this thing by 10 but i mean...I am a homer...

We lost 27-20 vs the Pats in the playoffs at NE and that was with Jason fucking Avant as our #1. Half of our D was out

Interesting. On a sport book radio show this weekend they were sure that the sharps would knock that down and there was no way this game would go off with more than a 7 point spread. Of course they also said they would not be surprised at an outright upset by the Chiefs.

The line is not particularly useful in this game. IMO, we get blown out by 20 or more, or we win the game. Either we're prepared for them or not, and vice versa.

I'm probably around 60-65% blown out by 20, and 35-40% we win.

Don't have enough of a handle on how much of a chip they still have on their shoulder or how much 'welcome back SB Champs' fanfare Gillette has planned to be more concrete.

I just posted an article on Reid's week 1 record as a head coach that's a good read. Before reading I was already leaning on betting KC if getting 8 or 9 points, the article solidified that for me.

From a FF view I know enough to know Big Ben has historically not been good in road games especially divisional and that Alex Smith has a young gun in his rearview mirror and I think Alex will perform at a good not great level in what I also think will be a fairly high scoring affair.

I wouldn't even take the points at 14. I think the Chiefs keep it close for awhile, but in the end the Pats win by at least two scores. Every question KC has going into the season will get tested by Belichick & Co... Can the Chiefs stop the Run? Can Tyreek be the #1 WR? Will the return game suffer with Tyrek's increased role on offense. Can someone else step up when Kelce is taken away? Can the OL and the rookie starting RB pass block well enough so Smith can go downfield? Will he if given the time, or will he continue to check down?

Deal is, if the Chiefs fail, there's still a long season left to find answers. Kinda hard to do that week 1 against the champs in their place. I just hope they can have a good showing and give themselves a chance to win it...Oh, and also that their headsets work...

Point spreads merely balance the money coming in. Who in their right mind would take Alex Smith vs Tom Brady at +7 even? You're basically praying for enough garbage time points to make up a gap. It probably should be a little over -10, but people are always scared of going over the magic number 10. Especially with a FG team like KC.

I'm starting Alex as well... errr I had Jamies Winston, but he's not playing now, so I hope Smith has a great game. I am also in a Keeper League, where you keep 2 veterans and a rookie from the previous year. I drafted Peyton Manning as a rookie and rode him as a keeper for a long time. I drafted PMII in the 6th round of my draft... Don't care if I win a game this year, I hope to have PMII for the next 10 on my team....

That's my take, as expressed above earlier.

Way I see it, Pats have the weapons where, if they have us figured out ahead of time and play with a chip on their shoulder, they pile on the points.

If Andy and Alex have the Pats figured out, Andy's going to get a lead and lengthen the game instead of risking a comeback with aggressive play.

Either something in the area of

41-14 Pats
or
27-20 Chiefs.

Not a game within the spread.

Ummm

In the first score, the Pats beat the spread...

In the Second score , the Chiefs beat the spread...

Literally every combination of scores one or the other team BEATS the spread and it isn't 'within' the spread....except 1 , if the spread is a whole number

The only possible way the score is 'within the spread' is if the the spread is 9 , and the Patriots win by exactly 9. If the spread is 8.5 being within the spread is impossible....one team or the other will always beat it....

SO not sure what your point is here...unless your point is 'the Patriots will not win by exactly 9' ....what does that mean exactly? Ive never heard 'within the spread' as a thing...

CupidStunt
09-06-2017, 12:27 PM
I'm sure he means the Chiefs won't lose by 1-9. Which of course they could. And likely will unless it's by 10 or 14 or some other godawful amount. And a 7-point loss doesn't necessarily mean it's a close game. See: Pittsburgh in the playoffs, the most lopsided 2-point loss in NFL history perhaps.

I know what Baby Lee meant and I agree the spread will mean nothing.
Either a NE blow out where getting points mean nothing.
Or
Chiefs win outright and spread means nothing.
Mind you I am not an expert at Baby Lee translation but my best guess.

Speaking of gambling, in the final full day of the 2017 NFL preseason, SB futures odds:

Patriots 13/4
Seahawks 8/1
Packers, Steelers 10/1
Cowboys, Falcons, Giants 12/1
Raiders 14/1
Texans 20/1
Chiefs 22/1
Broncos 25/1
Cardinals, Panthers, Vikings 28/1
Buccs, Titans 33/1
Eagles, Saints 40/1
Bengals, Colts, Ravens 50/1
Chargers, Dolphins, Jags, Lions 66/1
Bills 100/1
Rams 150/1
Bears 200/1
Browns, Jets, 9ers 250/1

a NE blow out means they beat the spread

a chiefs outright win means they beat the spread

I still don't understand what 'being within the spread means' in this case. Your explanation makes no sense to me...

If you bet with a spread, winning outright is meaningless...you dont get any more money for winning outright than you do for beating the spread..In this case winnign outright is the same thing as beathing the spread.......The only way to get more money by winning outright is precisely by NOT using a spread and giving the points up.

Example:

You bet the chiefs to win WITH the spread, and you bet $100 -- the chiefs win outright --- you get $100 plus your $100 bet back - for a total of $200.

You bet the chiefs to win and you give up the points (agree to not use the spread) -- you bet that same $100 --- you win $350 plus your $100 back - for a total of $450.

If you're talking about winning outright, and you truly believe that will happen -- you wouldn't use a spread.

70 percent of the action is laying the points, which is amazing. That's a big number for any game. It's too easy for the Pats to have the game in hand, and the Chiefs score a meaningless TD or FG at the end to win against the spread.

Hypothetically through an online sports book/betting site.

Theoretically it's "located" in another country.

I had a buddy win $5k on the site I use last year and they did in fact pay him out after he waited a nervous 2 months. lol

How would one bet on the spread, hypothetically?

If you didn't mean to ask this, my apologies...I'm just covering the basics in case you or anyone else wanted to know.

I'm not 100% I understand your question but there would be two ways to bet on the spread:

1) take the chiefs and GET 9 points -- basically add 9 points to the chiefs score at the end of the game. If you win with those 9 points, you win the bet. If you tie...its a 'push'. If you still lose, even with the added 9 points...you lose the bet.

2) take the pats and SUBTRACT (give) 9 points off of the pats score. If you win, even after giving away the 9 points...you win the bet. If its a tie..you 'push'. If you lose after you subtract the 9 points (even if they really won the game) then you lose the bet.

Generally spread bets are very close to , or 'even money bets' ... that is to say , when you win...you win the same amount as you bet.

example:

you wager 100$ and bet on (take) the chiefs to win +9 (get 9 points). Final score is 31-24 , new england wins the game. But you add 9 points to the chiefs final score, because you got 9 from the spread. so you win your bet...you win $100 and you also get the 100$ back...so you get $200 total.

if it was 27-18 , new england.... bet would tie (push) and you wouldnt win or lose...but you would get your 100$ back

If new england wins by 10 or more you lose your $100 and get nothing.

It will be interesting to watch if Alex scrambles more with Mahomes in the wings. I think he's under pressure to stop being a game manager and start putting effort into getting the win.

That's just a theory we will see on Thursday.

Thats why the motherfucker has 5 SB rings, and coached in 2 others.

And yes clutch kicking, a bs tuck rule and Brady has helped, but across the board the Pats have always won w/ defense in the playoffs, with exception to this most recent SB win.

He's just been that damn good.

The one thing I'm hoping for is for the Pats get into a SB hangover and play like shit, esp on defense...and Kelce and Hill expose the living hell out of them. But those are the 2 ppl Belichick is going to try and take out of the game. That's no secret, that should be every opponent's plan.

I'm not that concerned with Cooks. Brady isn't the home-run QB that Brees is. KC held him to 58 yards last year...Now if Edelman were playing, I would be more concerned as he was was brought in to complement.

This is his first game..and NE will be feeling things out with what works. Patriots have had just 2 weeks to acclimate to losing their most important WR/chess piece.

Chiefs are going to focus on Gronk...IMO...and they are pretty good with TEs. If Brady is going to go long...that means he's going to be holding the ball longer.

Watch NE's punt returns too...both of their returners are on IR, so they will have to use someone that doesn't normally do it. KC might be able to get a TO....a lot of pressure, 1st game.

Chiefs were 8-1 against top 10 offenses, essentially without Houston, Bailey, Howard and Johnson. They only allowed more than 28 points once...and that was the Steeler's shit-show when KC was still trying to find a replacement for S.Smith. KC's other 3 losses were by 5, 2 and 2 points.

I agree with this. As far as their WR's go, I'm really not too concerned because they will be in a feeling out period. It's the TE's and James White catching out of the backfield that I'd be concerned with mostly.

Berry can lock down Gronk. Parker was a FP today he should be good to go and with Mitchell ready we should be fine. Peters will lock down cooks. I'm just worried that we will make Chris Hogan Canton bound tommorow if Gaines doesn't show up. I would put Sorenson on White in passing situations

I'm curious on how much Edleman's underneath routes actually freed up Hogan and others. Not only is he on IR...but one of the remaining WR have to man the slot now. That dude was nails in high pressure situations...and his catch against the Falcons was amazing.

He was the main reason KC lost in the play-offs....

They dont have anyone to replace his production...they have last second fill-ins. Amendola had 23 receptions last year....JE had almost 100. Amendola is also pretty fragile...he wont make it through the year with that many targets.

I want him (Alex11) to have the kind of game that he/we could only dream of last week, last month, or even last year. I hope that not only do we spank the Pats on their opening game and award night, pisses off the NFL who tried to buy the refs for ratings, and that he gets the game ball.

I hope Alex gets some strange as he gets off the plane from a Jennifer Aniston (did you get it?) look alike in the backseat of an UBER Black as soon it hits Cookingham Dr., then again at home at 3-5AM when he wakes his wife up like in a WUNF video and bangs the crap out of her to where she has a sexual awakening and his bedroom furnature resembles a year long stay in a rain forest. I hope Charlie Sheen is proud of him too!

I hope he gets a trip to Harlem out of the deal. I always got ghetto sex every time I brought the splendor's of the fight home. ( In my case it was usually a Mercedes for the ex-wifey.) Everyones self confidence is greatly improved after winning a major upset and getting to exploit the elusive taboo option in the bedroom, sunroom, or even the stairs. (who cares where!)

I hope that after tomorrow night THE "new and improved" Alex11 becomes an unstoppable force and that it continues for 15 more regular season games (plus 3-4 more post season) so we can dump his ass off to the highest bidder. (before we find out those helmets, he's pushing, don't work so well.)

Yes, I hope Alex11 gets to, not only, put it to his ol' lady in ways he/she never dreamed of but gets to shove it up the prison gates of the naysayer's rectums who are constantly all over his ass for a team loss.

I hope Alex11 turns on 102.1 and never finds NPR ever again. They will be opening chiefs games to "No More Mr. Nice Guy for now on, or at least the 2017 season. If Clark Hunt can do it to the people of NM so can Alex!

I hope he has that defining day tomorrow and that all the Alexhaters lose their Internet connections and have to watch VHS porn to get off for about the next, let's say, month. Furthermore that his wife has a **IT eating grin on her face for the rest of her time here in K.C.. (P.S. I'd be having a moving sale and listing the house in Feb. in hope of a spring sale.)

I know I took 2 'ludes, two oxycotins, four vodka and tonics, and was found asleep in a Burger King drive thru when I found this story of someones dream written on a piece of paper (see below). Don't you think that life, as we know it, will be forever changed (not only for us but for Mr. and Mrs Smith ) if we got to send his ass to Disneyland just before we force him to put his house on the market and boot his ass out of town?

If you didn't mean to ask this, my apologies...I'm just covering the basics in case you or anyone else wanted to know.

I'm not 100% I understand your question but there would be two ways to bet on the spread:

1) take the chiefs and GET 9 points -- basically add 9 points to the chiefs score at the end of the game. If you win with those 9 points, you win the bet. If you tie...its a 'push'. If you still lose, even with the added 9 points...you lose the bet.

Although if you lose you have to add 10% juice to the house,so you'd lose $110.

Maybe we shock the world, but LOL at the people in here desperately trying to point out certain flaws in the Pats. You must have been sleeping the past 15 years. News flash: it literally doesn't matter who the heck is playing WR or OL or DL or anything else. They have Tom Brady, they have BB, and they're going to plow through the league yet again this year, with or without the white midget Jerry Rice as he should now apparently be known as.

To add to that, roster deficiencies such as ours matter much more when your QB is Alex Smith. I don't have any faith in our WR or CB, and yet I wouldn't be worried at all if our QB was good.

That's an expert observation...ROFL. You're right ...other players dont matter just 40 year old Terrific Tom.

I guess that's why they went 4-5 without Edelman...how in the world did BB find himself down 28-3 with 2 weeks to prepare for a mediocre Falcons defense?

I keep seeing this 4-5 number but can't figure out where it comes from. Best I can figure, this is a "since the start of the 2014" season stat. He missed 2 games that year, and 7 in 2015.

The problem with this 4-5 thing is that 2015 was a ridiculous year for the Patriots. They started out 10-0 and went 2-4 the rest of the way, losing AFC homefield advantage and the AFCCG in the process, because the entire team was racked by injuries.

Nobody is going to cry for the Patriots, by this was their IR list by end of the season:

starting left tackle Nate Solder
starting MLB Jerod Mayo
FB James Develin
WR Aaron Dobson
starting RB Le Garrette Blount
starting G Ryan Wendell

and, seriously, 13 other guys. By the end, it was pretty much Brady/Gronk, and the all backup team.

So yeah, the Pats may have gone 4-5 without Edelman, but it's more like "1-1 without Edelman in 2014, and 3-4 without Edelman AND HALF THE REST OF THE TEAM in 2015.

I love Edelman as much as any Pats fan, but that stat is more than a bit misleading. Or does anyone actually think the Pats will be sub .500 this year since Edelman is out the whole year?

Curious what the line will be for NE's next game. Because they are going to break one off in someone. Could win by 30 honestly.

Chiefs are going to win...as improbable as that sounds.

I made this prediction strictly on peripheral information...Patriots should have won based on everything else.

One cool thing is that we won despite getting the shit end of the reffing stick by a lot.

Not only this, but we basically had three drives killed by stupid shit-the fumble, Smith's self-sack and Kelce's boneheaded taunting penalty. Probably would have scored on one or more of those.

That was a major league ass-whooping.

Not to mention some obvious holding in the middle of the line.

The D beat their oline so bad they couldn't even hold in the end.

The pats run d was beastly last year, chiefs torched it. They have a good secondary, chiefs torched it.

They can't rush the passer for shit though

The Chiefs amassed 139 yards of penalties on 15 flags.
The Pats amassed 55 yards of penalties on 6 flags.

So rather than read 10 pages to find any bets, did anyone cash big with a Chiefs bet?
