View Full Version : Life Somebody hit me with a pair of shoes today.

I was walking through the downtown park where a lot of reefer addicts hang out today, coming back to my office from a meeting. As I was walking, all of a sudden I saw incoming when it was too late to avoid it, and a pair of high tops thunked hard into my ribs.

One of the reefer addicts apologized profusely. He was throwing them at someone and accidentally hit me. I stared at him for a second and kept walking.

That was probably the most notable part of my day.

I also saw a 3D printer for the first time today, which was kind of cool. That's a different thing than the shoe thing.

The library here in IN has a couple of them that I use. They just charge for materials. You should check it out.

You know that they are cellular so they will both look and feel funny. I have not had great luck grinding, sanding and finishing but who knows I am used low budget gear.

I was actually at a library here in Colorado, which is where I saw them. They only give you one project, though, so you have to choose carefully. And they do all of the making, which is less fun. But it would still be a good place to learn.

Transfer of intent applies to an assault. Was he engaging playfully with his intended target or was it an aggressive action? You could sue him civilly for his birkinstocks, patchouli cologne, and Phish collection if it was the latter.

I remember having to watch this in high school. And, FTR, the term "reefer" is the cigarette type of delivery system, aka a "doobie". The proper term for the product is "grass" or "Maryjane". We old folks just have to teach you kids everything. :D OH, and 3D printers are extremely cool.

I am still amazed by pretty much everyone involved in that clip.

I've tried to throw a shoe here and there and lemme tell you - I have nowhere NEAR the accuracy of that guy. That's two consecutive high velocity, extremely precise shoe throws. And that's a rapid fire-reload to get that second shoe off and thrown before he got taken down.

On the other side, look at the situational awareness from 43 there. And he's poised and ready to go for the second throw - accurate or no, our shoe tosser had no chance once the President saw it coming.

Just high marks all around.

3D printers , man those things are cool. Custom milling has really made its way to dentistry. Some really cool shit can be done.

You can take a cone beam CT scan on a pt that say, has no teeth, digitally design where you want to place implants for a full arch screw retained prosthesis, mill a custom guide so you know exactly where to place your implants, mill the hybrid denture, screw it all in in one day.

Crazy shit

I have a full boat workshop underneath my garage for woodworking and some general handyman shit. Table saws, drill presses, flatbed joiners, planers, router tables, an integrated overhead dust collection system...all kinds of fun (and frustratingly expensive) shit.

In 10 years it will be obsolete because you can !@#$ing print a bookshelf in whatever weird rainbow colors and exotic shapes you can find a template on the interwebs for.

This link is a good stating place. Also, getting the printer perfectly balanced is key so ask about the balancing methods for various printers to see which is best/easiest.

Yeah, my dad loves thingiverse. He volunteers at a library in his town once a week to assist people with 3D printing. He also has worked on his own designs in CAD but I don't remember the site he uses.

The biggest issue at this point is limitations of size. I think the largest printer they have at that library (I love that they are doing this and keeping the library viable even with the advent of e-books) prints up to 5X5X5. Speed is also an issue as it can take a couple of hours to print something of that size.

I often see movie fights with pool cues, and they seem quite effective in those scenes. But they're just a one-inch piece of wood, and that's if you swing the big end. Regardless of which end you swing, they don't seem solid enough to lay someone out. I feel like you'd just break the cue if you swung that hard.

Has anyone here been in a fight where a pool cue was used, and is it really an effective weapon?

I had a 2.5 inch gash on my forehead almost to the bone, took 3 tubes of super glue and some butterfly bandages to get it closed. I dont remember anything until i was sitting back at the bar with the police there. They told me i didnt go down and pulverized (their words) his face. He left in an ambulance i went home. I had the aforementioned gash, an approximately 3 inch wide 6 inch long lump, two black eyes.

Fun times

Scars like that save on Halloween costumes.

I'm going to start using "hit me with a pair of shoes" whenever something unexpected/unbelievable happens.

ROFL

The 3d printers work well for something NOT needing durability - for example a nine MM nor a Skateboard work well.

Rain Man has the most interesting commutes to work. Bwana probably has his moments too, but I'll take stories about the strange behavior of pot junkies over the occasional grizzly bear encounter for a good story any day.
