Titty Meat

I don't know what to think about this because Revis was so bad last year and he's 32. At the same time he only has to play well for 6 games and if he does that I feel like we might be able to blitz more which would really help with the pass defense. D-Line played better last week and Ragland has shown to be a great run defender.

Maybe he can help impart some helpful coaching to the current secondary. Maybe start with how to track the ball on deep routes. Leverage, reading the receiver, how to stay on your feet. Ok....pretty much everything.

Chiefs signed CB Darrelle Revis.

Revis had some in-season interest from the Chargers, but there hadn't been any updates on him since September. His signing is a splash move for a Chiefs secondary that's struggled opposite Marcus Peters. It's anyone guess how much Revis has left after missing the first three months and coming off a heavy decline in 2016. Revis played the first five years of his career with DC Bob Sutton, so he should be a strong scheme fit.

Revis had wrist problems as well as legal problems last year. His mind wasn’t right at the time and he couldn’t press because of his wrist. I believe that’s the reason for his bad play last year. Also the jets were a shit show last year no sense in playing all out.

bigjosh
11-22-2017, 04:46 PM
Even if this doesnt pan out, its a good signing. They have him for nothing this year, and he is on retainer for next year if it does happen to work out.

Im all for this move. There are other, older corners in the league playing at a high level. Plus he knows this Rex Ryan, Bob Ryan, Sutton defense.

srvy
11-22-2017, 04:47 PM
He was pretty bad last year but he was playing without one hand. He couldnt play up at the line and physical the receiver. So they played him off the receiver but he couldnt run with the faster guys and was burned a lot.

I think he can help if he is back to being able to knock guy off their route and may give Sutton more confidence to blitz more. Its worth a shot guys what else is out there?

B_Ambuehl
11-22-2017, 04:48 PM
He wasn't bad last year by any means. He just wasn't worth the $20+million (or whatever he was making) "Revis island" hype he'd created the previous 9 years where he would completely take every #1 receiver out of the game with no help. As a #2 corner, I'll take him all day long.

Can he pass rush though?

Pass rush is pointless when teams can just 3 step drop and always find a wide open WR because your CB's can't cover a cooking pot.

KC has pass rush issues, but man, the secondary has played like dog shit all season and it's entirely because of terrible CB play.

Which is unfortunate because our super amazing fired GM drafted quite a few defensive backs, but most of them sucked.

B. If he's somehow back to form, which I highly doubt, they can choose whether he's worth the $10 million pricetag or just cut him.

Revis' biggest strength is his ability to jam at the line. Something our CBs never do. Will be interesting to see how they play him. Regardless of how it pans out, it's a good move. That side of the secondary is broke as fuck, the only mistake the FO could have made was to do nothing.

Yep, I dont think there is a single negative consequence to this signing. Worst case scenario he is a lateral move from a shitty corner and we cut bait at the end of the season.

Best case scenario he plays at an all pro level and lifts this defense to somewhere in the respectable category.

I fully expect it to be in between those two extremes somewhere. He will be an upgrade for sure i think. I mean, how could he possibly be any worse than gaines/acker?

So to sort some things out, here's what I've gathered...

- Revis was most recently good in 2015. Went to a Pro Bowl, was voted #24 on the players' top 100 heading into 2016
- He had wrist surgery before 2016, and gained weight. He also could not press as much as he wanted to coming off of the surgery, especially early on in 2016
- He is now healthy and is back down to his old playing weight

Hmm....

we have the biggest dumpster fire at CB in the league. HisTORICALY BAD Phillip Gaines.

Do you remember a guy named Vince Agnew that was a pre camp cut a few years ago? We had a pre-season game against the Saints, and Drew Brees torched this dude for like 400 yards just to him. Looked like he was lost out there, every ball went at him and he was NOWHERE to be found. Got cut the next day.

While I agree that it likely won’t make a difference , there’s no doubt that if the Chargers or Raiders signed Revis you’d be telling us the Chiefs are going to lose the division because of it lol.

The truth is it’s a good low risk/high reward move for a desperate team, and if they were to turn it around would certainly be one of the reasons.

Kinda knew he was still on our radar. We tried to sign him a couple years ago, during that time he received a lot of love from Sutton and Reid in the media. Saw that he was jobless and was wondering if we would bring him in for a playoff run. Reid mentions in the ESPN article that they've been in contact all season, I wouldn't be surprised if they've had this planned for awhile....He will become a Chief but won't have to participate until closer to playoffs. This way he's fresh when it matters and he can get in shape and up to speed on the defense without fear of injury. I was wondering if we were basically doing the same thing with Hali, but I apparently not.

I'm telling you guys, the pass rush's main issue is in fact the secondary. Every time I watch live or go back and look at the coaches film from this season, I am amazed at how quickly QBs are getting rid of the football against us. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that only Peters has good ball skills of the group.

The receivers are either open immediately, or the QB just trusts his guys to come down with the 50/50 balls because our other corners don't handle it well.

This just in...sources close to the Chiefs claim that Revis was not their first choice....these same sources claim that the Chiefs could not come to terms with Lester Hayes and were laughed out of Gary Fencik's home

Seriously, yes it is desperation, but they just lost to a 1-8 NY Giants team. I mean come on...its not like that would warrant a change at QB!!!

A cardboard cutout of Phillip Gaines is better than Phillip Gaines.

So I tried to get a Molly Hatchet cover band for a party. Turns out they were too expensive & I couldn't afford them. ...So I hired Molly Hatchet. (Courtesy of 'Larry the Cable Guy'.)

Too bad this move doesn't solve the real problem.

Wish they would quit dancing around the real issue

I'm telling you guys, the pass rush's main issue is in fact the secondary. Every time I watch live or go back and look at the coaches film from this season, I am amazed at how quickly QBs are getting rid of the football against us. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that only Peters has good ball skills of the group.

The receivers are either open immediately, or the QB just trusts his guys to come down with the 50/50 balls because our other corners don't handle it well.

But there have been some instances where Dumbass Sutton rushed 3 and dropped 8, and those 3 couldn't even get to the QB and the QB had all day to read "How to Kill a Mockingbird" and complete a 15+ yard pass.

Even at a normal 4 man rush, it still have issues.

Was initially rolling my eyes at this move but kinda liking it now. Revis is 32, last year was a loss due to injury, now he’s back in shape and for once has a deal that bets on himself to earn the big payday next year. Is it the big move we all want to see? No. But seems solid from a risk/reward perspective.

Exactly. And there far too many times where one can count to 4 , 5 etc.,and no pocket is collapsing / no pressure. Terrible. :shake:

I read 2 years on the Vet Min...I'm assuming he'll be on IR half the season next year to keep him fresh for another late season run.

@RapSheet: #Chiefs CB Darrelle Revis' new 2-year contract contains significant team-based incentives. Source says Revis can earn $1.75M if he plays in an AFC Title Game and an additional $1.75M if KC wins the Super Bowl. The #Jets would not be on the hook for those incentives.

I'm not sure that's the case. It's s 2 year deal with no guaranteed money for 2018. If he sucks, BFD, cut him.

He can't be. He's not anywhere close to his former self.

If he can be effective enough to be respectable he can help push Gaines off the field and that would be a big help...

Exactly.

Gaines isn't working. Nelson still doesn't seem fully back yet.

Something has to change and at least Revis knows the Defense...

Maybe Revis can catch a fucking jumpball instead of fall down. That's a huge upgrade.

Maybe Revis can catch a ****ing jumpball instead of fall down. That's a huge upgrade.

Well, he's not all that tall but he does have good ball awareness.

His problem isn't fighting to make a play - it's having lost 2 or 3 steps and his famed quickness...
