View Full Version : Chiefs So, who'd we rather face in the playoffs?

Assuming we don't fuck up the next two weeks, it looks like we are pretty locked in at the #4 seed.

This means that we would play the 5 seed in the WC round. It looks like it would either be the Ravens, Titans, or Bills.

#3 Jags would likely play one of those three as well.

If Jags win, and we win, they go to #2 Pittsburgh and we go to #1 New England (assuming they hold the same spot here in two weeks).

If #3 Jags lose, the #6 seed goes to #1 New England, and we go to #2 Pittsburgh.

So my questions are:
1. Who do you want to face in the WC Round
2. Who do you want the Jags to face in the WC Round (to influence the next two rounds for us)
3. Who do you want to play in the Divisional Round (Pitt / NE)

Titans for sure. The Bills owned Shitty at Arrowhead.

I want the Chiefs to beat the Ravens (because that's my boss's favorite team and that would be fun. I want the Jags to lose so the Chiefs can beat Pitts in their house, and then I want the Chiefs to beat NE in their house in the AFC. Because F-em all.

There's no way the Bills beat the Chiefs twice in one season, both times at Arrowhead.

If the Chiefs win and Jacksonville win, how weird would it be to go to Jacksonville for the AFC Championship?

Buffalo would be the easiest draw in the wildcard round I think.

If we make it past the 1st round, we ain't beating New England in Foxboro twice in one season. It's just not going to happen.

So... I guess I'd rather face Pittsburgh, as unpleasant as that would be.

I agree with this. Although for the same reason you said Buffalo wouldn't beat us twice in Arrowhead I am not sure we would go into NE and win twice in the same season. Especially without Berry to slow down Gronk.

The Chiefs are going to have to beat New England in Foxborough at some point if they want to win the AFC. I'd rather go there in the divisional round than the AFCCG. They've historically been much more vulnerable at home during the divisional than the AFC title, where they usually whoop their opponent.

Titans have to be the obvious answer here.

Their offense is a trainwreck, the defense doesn't scare anyone and they are 1 of 2 teams with a winning record, but a negative point differential.

I actually have a good feeling about these playoffs. The bullseye they had at 5-0 is gone, and no matter how well they played the last few weeks or how well they play the next few, they'll be under the radar. Yet with plenty of potential and motivation.

I'm willing to bet that the "f*** it" version of Smith that we saw in New England and much of the season is nothing compared to what we'll see in what he knows is probably his last dance in KC and possibly his last chance to make a run.

The Chargers have the best chance right now at the 6 seed. Whether they'd beat JAX or not, I don't know. Personally I'd rather play NE in the divisional round because as was being discussed in another thread, they usually play worse at Foxborough during that round than the AFCCG.

Chargers have to win both, the Titans have to lose both, and the Bills once. Could happen.

Also, if the Titans win twice, and the Jags lose twice, the Titans would win the South, and the Jags would be the 5 seed with Ravens most likely 6th. Could happen too. I watched some of the 49ers/Titans game Sunday. 49ers are not playing like a team who is mailing it in right now. 49ers/Jags could be interesting if the Titans beat the Rams.

Talent( your word) doesn’t necessarily mean victories. We lost to the Jets and Bills. That arguably moves us to 7 th right there. Talent? Ours is over rated. Maybe we have been watching two different teams lose
to the Jets, Giants, and Bills.

The 2011 NYG got swept by the Redskins...

We have a higher ceiling than most teams in the AFC, and that is so important once the playoffs start. We are capable of playing and winning at a very high level. Only team with a ceiling like ours is PIT, NE, JAX, and maybe Baltimore.

Nobody cares about NYG 7 losses and collapse (often to subpar teams) in 2011, or the Ravens mini collapse in 2012. It's all about playing at a very high level at the right time

If the Chiefs were just winning the last two games in ugly fashion, where maybe the offense was struggling or the defense was struggling, I wouldn't be nearly as invested in the upcoming stretch of the season.

But for the past two weeks, they've dominated in all aspects of the game. Against division rivals. It's been very hard to find holes in their performance anywhere.

If they continue that, there is no reason they can't beat anyone in the AFC.

I think we can beat Tennessee. But if the Steelers have our number then I don't know that I want to be matched up against Lebeau, even though the Titans have less talent. Plus Reid is 3-1 against Buffalo and 1-2 against Tennessee - we haven't looked great against them.

This year is an even better scenario for this team if you can believe that.

-The Steelers losing Shazier is monumental against a team like us. It really goes in our favor.
-The Patriots pass rush is still not that good compared to last year.
-Our run defense has improved significantly with Ragland and KPL.

The major problem is going to NE again and playing Gronk without Berry. Thatís the worst part of this.

But this is such a good opportunity for Alex. Hunt, Hill, Kelce all healthy, OL is the same as itís mostly been and itís playing very well. Itís time for Alex to let go and start letting it fly.

You bet... that's why I'm starting to believe that record/seeding means very little.

It's all about how well your team is playing, and how healthy are they when it matters most. The Chiefs haven't been healthy very often in January, let's hope they can stay that way this year...

Gronk will be a problem. But if I'm Sutton, I don't just double him every play. Their other guys will kill us if we did that. I think you have to mix your coverages up against them and try to get after Brady with 4 rushers.

And donít forget that Antonio Brown is hurt. Even if he plays, he may be a bit slow.

Thatís whatís really killed us against the Steelers. We canít overcommit to stopping the run, because of AB. Take him out, and we can play completely differently.

How many third and longs has he converted on that deep crossing route against us?

Only 1 thing concerns me.

Chiefs are 15-2 the last 3 seasons with only the Denver game left to go to get to 16-2 in the division.

We own the division, not sure thats a great correlation going into the playoffs since we wont be playing a division rival.
