Wow, what a fall. From MVP talk to not making the Popularity, we I mean Probowl. We only have 3. Kelce, Hunt, and Hill. Hill was in as a returner, not a receiver. Steelers have the most with 8

Houston and Peters should be motivated as well. Hopefully Chris Jones is too, although he wasn't really snubbed.

If it motivates them any to kick ass, I'm all for it.

Generally you need the sexy stats for your position.

Houston tied for 16th in sacks.
Peter's should be in. But KC relapsing hurt his odds.
Same with butker, our offense quit scoring for six weeks and he dropped down the list.

Well with Houston I kinda figured the coaches and players would recognize him through film study and get him in, although I knew fans wouldn't vote for him. He's the best edge run defender in football and still gets a lot of pressure on QBs despite the overwhelming amount of time he spends in coverage.

Check out my post in the Houston thread from tonight to see what I mean. He caused two of the interceptions Saturday.

Interesting pro bowl trivia:

Number of pro bowl receivers who had fewer receiving yards than Tyreek: 2 (A.J. Green and Larry Fitzgerald)

Number of pro bowl quarterbacks with a lower quarterback rating than Alex Smith: All of them.

Number of pro bowl linebackers with fewer tackles than Justin Houston: 6 - all but one (Chandler Jones, Ryan Kerrigan, Anthony Barr, Von Miller, Jadaveon Clowney, Terrell Suggs)

Number of pro bowl kickers with more points per game played than Harrison Butker: 0.

Number of pro bowl players who are affiliated with murderers: 2 (Von Miller and Maurkice Pouncey)

Number of pro bowl players involved in shootings: 2 (Aqib Talib and Maurkice Pouncey). FYI, the Von Miller murders were all stabbings.

Maybe it's hard for people to evaluate objectively and instead end up measuring against others on their team. If 3/4ths of the team is shit, it makes the few that are actually good look fantastic.

Best22
12-20-2017, 08:59 AM
Whether someone "deserves" a pro bowl bid is somewhat arbitrary because the "field" of quarterbacks changes every year. When Brady threw for 50 TD ten years ago, it made it that much harder for a quarterback to be selected because the bar had been raised, and suddenly a 29 TD, 7 INT year was no longer good enough for 2nd place, but 3rd place.

I don't have a problem with Alex Smith not getting selected. But selecting Rivers over Smith is laughable. Smith swept Rivers and totally outplayed him in the biggest game of the season.

Rivers was hot at the right time to steal the votes. Combine that with Alex looking like a bag of smashed assholes for like 5-6 weeks and it's not hard to understand.

Tyreek being voted in as a returner pretty much shows you how absurd this shit is anyway.

When I was in fourth grade, I was the new kid in my neighborhood. I had a great football that was real leather and stuff, and it was clearly the best football in the neighborhood. At one point a couple of neighborhood kids knocked on my door and said, "Hey, we're going to play football over in the vacant lot." I got a look of joy and anticipation on my face, and they saw it. One of them said, "Actually, we just wanted to borrow your football. But I guess you could play if you wanted."

Yup, and it's not just about stats. It's the eye test too. This has not been a good year for AJ Green. Most of that is because Dalton behind a bad OL is a recipe for disaster. But apart from 2 or 3 games, he's barely been noticeable on the field. Keenan Allen absolutely deserves to be in there. Watch any Chargers game, apart from the KC game... Allen has been a go-to receiver for Rivers. And interestingly, Green's stats are overinflated because the Bengals are constantly playing from behind, Rivers and Allen's #'s are deflated because for the past few months they've been playing with huge leads.

Chiefs QB Alex Smith took the high road with regard to being left off the AFC's Pro Bowl team despite being the NFL's top-rated passer. "There (are) a lot of good players,'' said Smith, who is the first alternate."I'm pumped for the guys on this team that did make it. I'm humbled to be a first alternate. These are some good QBs there to be with.'' Smith was passed over in favor of New England's Tom Brady, Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger and Los Angeles' Philip Rivers.

Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill wasn't as diplomatic about QB Alex Smith being left off the Pro Bowl team. "Is this even a question right now? I do feel like Alex did get snubbed. He's a Pro Bowl quarterback . . . The stats are there.''

There was a time I gave a shit about this stuff, that was a long time ago.

The ProBowl is a popularity contest just like the All Star game.

There is almost a 100% chance he ends up being named as someone drops out, and at least when we go to trade him next year it will be -

It is a slam dunk. Look at the numbers for both THIS season. Smith beats him in almost all categories. Also he bested Rivers twice head-to-head. I'm NOT a smith Fan, but you're Bronco bitterness towards KC shows big time here.

Um, no. I just purely looked at stat lines and honestly, a case could be made for whichever player was snubbed.

Anyone who can't throw a 7-yard pass on the run accurately enough to an open Kareem Hunt in the end zone for a completion should spend at least their entire Pro Bowl week learning how to do so. And keep in mind that this same QB had made dozens of these inaccurate passes over the course of this season alone which have either had no chance of being completed or only been completed because the receivers made incredible moves/adjustments to get their hands on the wayward ball.

8. Alex Smith, QB, Kansas City Chiefs: Smith is sixth in the league in passing, with a better season on paper than Drew Brees and a more efficient season than Philip Rivers. He only threw five interceptions but, because of Kansas City’s hot start, was penalized for the team’s mid-season slump which was not his doing. I have little doubt Smith will end up in Orlando anyway if he’s not playing in the Super Bowl.

LMAO

Letting fans vote on this just kills its credibility, it renders it worthless

The league says that they want parity, but stuff like this works against it. You're more likely to make the pro bowl if you're on a team that gets followed by brainless bandwagon fans who'll vote for some Steelers CB over Marcus Peters, and that gives them an advantage in free agency. And they only get the advantage in the first place because they're winning, or otherwise the brainless bandwagon fans would buy caps and jerseys from some other team.

Way too much time debating it really... teams that go on stretches of losing 6 ouf 7 just won't have that many pro bowlers. Fans don't watch those teams. Not a "KC jab", just saying.

They'll watch them in the playoffs, including you and your Donkey squad. :)

For a week, at least. You know what I'm saying though... aside from your marquee teams, the casual fan isn't going to tune into a team in the middle of a 4 game losing streak.
