Amazing that successful organizations identify talent in the draft, hit on said talent and know when to let old players past their prime go.

Exhibit A: TJ Watt-6 sacks as a rookie

If I'm Veach, I make the claim for two reasons. One, he can probably help our pass rush opposite Houston. Two, it keeps him out of NE. They will almost certainly claim him.

We will face the Patriots or the Steelers and we are sorely lacking pass rushers. We need to be all over this.

Yup... it makes too much sense, which means it probably won't happen. Our losing streak has put us in a position to have a higher waiver claim priority than teams like NE, so we should take advantage of it. Take a positive away from that awful month of November.

But picking him on waivers, don’t you have to take his current deal? Don’t know what it is but if he wasn’t highly paid on his current deal, wouldn’t the Steelers just keep him? It’s got to be win/win for the Steelers to just cut him, more than personality conflicts, he’s probably not worth what you’d have to pay to claim him right now.

He clears waivers, he goes where he wants for money the signing team wants. Unless he’s still got plenty of tread, I’d guess he goes through the waiver. On the other hand, if you think he’d never pick the Chiefs, regardless of money; then maybe claim him, if you really want him. It’s a poker game right now. Be interesting to see this play out

At his stage in his career, I doubt James Harrison's doing any tryouts. Sign him or don't, and he's probably pretty selective too.

If he's pissed at the Steelers, he'd go Patriots or maybe Ravens.

If he's looking for the most playing time, it could be the Chiefs.

Not really. The original tweet by Rapoport and things from his agent indicate that lack of playing time was the big reason behind him being unhappy. If he just wants the ring (which he already has), he'd just fade to black and ride the Pittsburgh thing out, IMO.

it is a big deal. Harrison might be old, slow and useless at a lot of things at the position, but the one thing hes really, really good at, and probably why he was signed by NE is Harrison is really good against really tall, stiff LTs. That applies to Fisher, Stanley and Villanueva.

The reason Harrison is good against really tall guys is he is only like 5'11" but his upper body is insane, so he can get underneath them and push their shit in all game with pure strength.

I think this whole Fisher-Harrison thing is blown way out of proportion. Get over yourselves guys.

It really isn't. Harrison and the fucking $tealer$ live in these guys' heads. Took Alice and the gang over a month to unfuck themselves after that loss, getting punked in the process by five teams that are mediocre at best and horrible at worst.

I need you to clarify that statement, please

Stars have not been following Rodgers to Green Bay. If anything, that front office has watched talent leave.

Casey Hayward and Jared Cook being the most recent.

Because that really worked out for Aaron Rodgers, right?

If you mean that Green Bay never signs any top talent free agents, thats only because they never even try

That hasnt been their MO for 20 or so years, and you know it... to their credit, they wanna build through the draft

To their discredit, their drafts have often sucked ass and they've stubbornly refused attempts to fix that with free agents

Stars have not been following Rodgers to Green Bay. If anything, that front office has watched home grown talent team leave.

Casey Hayward and Jared Cook being the most recent.

That's because their front office doesn't ever try to sign outside FAs. They try to pay as little as possible while still winning. You have to know that.

Why Not?

They pay so much to keep receivers and give him good protection.

If players wanted to play for Aaron, they would have to be taking pay cuts. But it's just not an appealing destination.

It's different in the nba where stars want to play for LeBron. They have made their money over many years. On the other hand the nfl career can end so abruptly their agents are encouraging players to find the most money possible vs chasing titles.

Do you, sir, dare to suggest that the glorious NFL is not a perfectly legitimate and fair enterprise? That perhaps, some teams have to work extra hard to overcome a particular bias or agenda at play?

well, how dare you, if so...

Amazing that successful organizations identify talent in the draft, hit on said talent and know when to let old players past their prime go.

Exhibit A: TJ Watt-6 sacks as a rookie

Daddy, will KC grow some balls and learn when to cut bait instead of being sentimental, fan-pleasing bitches?

Pats D is shit. If we face them, I worry more about stopping Brady/Gronk.

Harrison will play a handful of 3rd down snaps. Big deal.

Berry on Gronk was key in game 1. Brady hadn't clicked yet with his new WR and Gronk was covered.

The way to beat the Pats is the same way they beat everyone else: force them to sustain long drives without big plays and toughen up in the red zone.

The problem is without Berry that big play is going to be there with Gronk. No way can Parker/Sorenson cover him 1on1...

Yeah Berry was all over Gronk. Berry is also a guy that would probably get the benefit of the doubt with officials. That will be tough to replace.

To beat the Pats we need snow.

We need to sustain a running game, limit their passing game, and own the TOP to protect our D.

Having it snow might go a long way in doing that...:)

Not likely.

This year is the Rooney send-off. I fully expect this turd franchise to hoist another Lombardi come February. The Shazier injury hurt them, but if Brown comes back healthy their offense will not be stopped.

"He erased his own legacy," Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey told reporters

"If you didn't want to be here, come out and say it," Pouncey said. "Don't make it look like it's the team's fault. ... You think the team and the organization wanted to get rid of James Harrison? Come on, now. If I wanted out, I wouldn't let the team take the blame for it."

Added linebacker Bud Dupree: "I don't want the media to portray that we're the reason he left. That ain't the reason. He chose to leave. He made certain decisions, and his actions got him to this circumstance."

Cornerback Artie Burns said Harrison's "energy" showed the team that he was upset about a lack of playing time, which created "a whole thing with him and the guys upstairs," leading to his release on Saturday.

"I guess [New England is] where he wanted to be," Burns said

One team source said Harrison went to great lengths to get himself released.

Players witnessed Harrison sleeping in a recliner during position meetings and snoring loudly while outside linebackers coach Joey Porter tried to teach, the source said.

Sometimes, Harrison would skip meetings altogether, and when he missed practices for various injuries, player suspicions would rise when Harrison conducted his famous power-lifting sessions the same week or day, the source said.

Harrison left the building at random times, would leave stadiums before or during games on days he was inactive and told teammates he was trying to get traded, released or placed on Injured Reserve, the source said.

The source said Harrison exhibited the behavior throughout the season, but players really started to notice Harrison checking out on game days after a Week 4 win over the Ravens.

Dupree said on his weekly radio show Wednesday night that Harrison showed no interest in mentoring him or rookie linebacker T.J. Watt.

"I don't know how many secrets about the playbook Harrison could give to [the Patriots] because I never saw him in meetings," said Dupree, according to host Paul Zeise.

Harrison is due $58,823.50 in Week 17 salary. Playoff games are paid by share.

Yeah no. Fisher is terrified of Harrison.

I think that’s the whole reason that the Pats signed him. It’s not like the Patriots need to know their playbook to beat them. They’ve been beating them senseless for the better part of two decades. They just got him because he owns Fisher and there’s a good chance that KC will be their divisional opponent.

Harrison went back to a team that already cut him once. Did he really think that they had a big role in mind for him and were going to roll out a red carpet for him? He was a fringe roster guy.
