Stating that because Aaron Rodgers did not suffer a new injury he cannot be placed back on the IR list unless the team releases him once he is healthy

I’m sure the Donkeys are the ones behind this.

Will never happen, but if it somehow does, of course he’ll end up in Denver thanks to Horseface.

Not gonna happen, but it'd be funny to see someone press the issue. I'm sure this is a player protection rule, so Rodgers himself would be the only one who could really push it, I'd think.

Won't happen, but if true, they may lose a draft pick, and probably a high one..

I doubt it will happen, but the rule seems clear. It is intended to keep teams from stashing players on the IR. If gooddell does not enforce it how could he avoid accusations of favoritism

I don't think it's player protection, I think it is to keep teams from stashing players on the IR

Packers may get some type of punishment. We will most likely see this rule changed in the off season.

Dorsey signs him and Cleveland can use their million picks filling out the roster

I'm really not sure with just 2 games to go and being eliminated from the playoffs why the Packers just didn't sit him. 6 or 7 can't dress out on game day anyway. Not like they had to have a roster spot filled.

They aren't "stashing" Rodgers, though. If he was physically capable of playing at a high level right now, he'd be playing.

So why did they start him?

Because he rushed himself back and they were desperate.

The rule stands though, you can't be released from IR and placed back on it for the same injury

They're out of the playoff chase. No reason to play him.

Doesn't exclude him from the rule. If he can play they are required to use a roster spot.

It's as black and white as it gets.

They weren't when they brought him back though, IIRC. Then they lost, were eliminated from playoff contention, and he got the snot beat out of him.

No reason to risk anything at that point.

Rodgers should do it. The guy would earn a lot more money if the Packers had to offer him a new deal now that was competitive with what the open market could get him.

I'm sure he was "injured/re-injured" during the return to action. I'm sure there's nothing to see here just like the non-catches that have happened for NE multiple times this year and almost bit KC in the azz today.

Bring him in the back up Mahomes.

If that were to happen, I'm pretty sure that he would go to Cleveland, as they have first choice on the waiver wire. Browns fans would feel like they won the lottery. And I think they actually would.

Nah, he'd end up in New England or Denver. We all know why.

Browns would fuck it up though. They would probably forget to claim him.

Didn't the Chiefs have to give up a second round pick to keep Mo Moorman who they inadvertantly "lost" due to some administrative screw-up like this?

Use the claim from the insurance company as proof of the injury, as small as it might have been...

I've been trying to scour the interwebs for the exact text of the NFL Bylaw on this subject but haven't been successful as of yet. All I've found so far is the 1970 (2006 ammended) copy of the bylaws, but they were changed in March 2016 (iirc) to update the IR/IR-D rules. If anyone has a link to it, please share (no I don't want one of the 8 billion AP articles on this).

I do know its a bylaw thing, it's not in the CBA.

I'm curious if Shefter is actually correct on this, or if he's making much ado about nothing as usual.

But what will the price be, it will have repercussions.
