He made a seam pass to Harris and a few hooks to Wilson in the middle of the field... Other than that it's been screen after screen. Not sure how that's a once in a lifetime resume

He had completions for 35, 17, 24, 19 yards and put up 17 points in 3 quarters against an elite defense while playing with third stringers for his first start.

He played well. He won the game with this throws, and he almost lost the game with his throws. I think it was a 3rd and 14 pass where he was scrambling, through across his body at a weird arm slot and completed it for a 1st down. Then a few plays later he throw that terrible toss up that almost got picked off. Alex Smith wouldn't have ever had the stones to make the first throw, but he wouldn't have ever made the latter. But this is correctable. The kid has the talent, arm strength, scrambling ability. Just need to reign it in and he'll be a good one.

Mahomes is going to bring us some much joy over the next twenty years.

Next season he's going to be the ultimate Favre-type QB who makes 5 great throws for every 1 that leaves you scratching your head but, like Favre, that ratio will improve over time and he will be the same kind of unstoppable force that leads us to the promised land multiple times.

Mahomes had about 100 yards of dropped catches/poor WR play from the likes of Robinson that should have been added to this stat line.

It was a very impressive debut considering he was facing the #2 ranked defense (statistically) in the NFL with the Chiefs' JV offense.

All in all a pretty good showing from Pat But wasnt all roses. That 1st down pass on game winning drive where we were still 8 yards from Buttkickers zone and he throws downfield into dbl coverage. That had int written all over it and should have been. It was dumb and shows he still has some learning to do. But it worked out and we have a lot to look forward to. The occasional bonehead play is outweighed by the sheer athleticism he displays and ability to extend plays. It's a real skill that Alex (and few others) have.

Truth... thats why receiver is my 4th or 5th priority this offseason

Fix the defense, and that kids O line... do that and we'll be golden

Because there is no reason for him not starting next year. The best opportunity for this team to go and win the SB as quickly as possible is when Mahomes is in his first contract. If he sits next year he will only have 3 years left and his first year playing there is going to be alot of growing pains. Might as well get it over with.

I'd say $17m and some solid picks is inventive enough.

Reid was extremely close to McNabb. Didn't hesitate to cut him loose.

Mahomes showed he's worth building around. Once you determine that, Reid will want to run a totally different offense. That means teaching the entire offense new concepts and bringing in support players who will build mahomes up. That process has to start right away, not 2 years from now. I'm rooting for Alex the rest of the way. For now, this is his offense. But it's time to move on after this season. It's nuts to think we'd pass on a chance to get good draft picks and $17m in cap space on a 1 year window.

Yes and no. The pats and jets run quite a bit of air raid. This offense can use shotgun more than they used to. But agreed, he will have to eventually learn to do this more regularly.

If Andy Reid watched that game today and he still wants Mahomes on the bench for another season, he needs fired. Undoubtedly positively shit-canned.

I agree with Stevie Ray though. In a hypothetical world, if Andy told Clark that Mahomes is gonna sit for one more year and Smith plays out his contract, Clark is going to say ok. No question about it. Especially if Smith gets to the AFCCG this year.

It may be the moment, but I think we'd have a better chance to go further in the playoffs if we played Mahomes.

The occasional bonehead play is outweighed by the sheer athleticism he displays and ability to extend plays. It's a real skill that Alex (and few others) have.
I wouldn't go that far. Mahomes has a bright future, but he's played in one NFL game against a bad team, he's not yet ready to lead a team through the playoffs.

A rookie QB that's barely played is a rookie QB that's barely played.

You're assuming he hasn't learned it already. Or won't before the beginning of next season. Even if he does, there's no reason he couldn't run 80-90% out of shotgun especially early on. Not high on my list of things I'm worried about.

Never brighter.

There were a couple tosses that I have never seen any QB make, let alone a Chiefs QB.

Did Wilson all of a sudden turn into Jerry Rice? Did Harris turn in to Tony G?
That catch Harris made early was way beyond what I thought he was capable of.

Especially if Smith gets to the AFCCG this year.

And here is the real telltale are these playoff games. If AS reverts back to his mid-season slump type play it makes the decision much easier for Andy, however IF AS balls out then AR has a tough decision to make. Continue to keep AS with Mahomes on the bench getting ever more refined like Rogers sitting for 3yrs in GB or get some very valuable draft picks to beef up our defense for next year as we are watching our current D crumble right before our very eyes ??? Whether AS balls out or not we will be able to get some decent picks and I don't think we have the luxury of keeping AS when several areas of the team need serious rebuilding IMHO.

Mahomes played with back up offensive line. 2 practice squad WR's, 1 WR who has been a major disappointment in D. Thomas and 1 legit WR that probably wouldn't make most teams. He had no running backs for the majority of the game due to injuries and a backup TE that started that probably isn't on many teams rosters due to his stone hands and a FB as the RB for most of the game.

And he looked fabulous and won the game. He made throws that no one or very few QBs in NFL history can make. He was, for the most part, very accurate. He looked comfortable, and his pocket awareness and field vision were light years above what I've seen from many NFL veterans.

Yes--He had 1 bad throw that was an INT that was intended for D. Thomas. He had a bad decision on a deep pass deep to Harris that was double covered. I can see the thought process of throwing a jump ball to a bigger TE but that was completely unnecessary in that instance.

All I have to say to the people who say “he looked ok” I saw Alex go out there the previous 4 years with a lot more around him than Mahomes had yesterday and all we heard is “Alex doesn’t have enough help” Alex has had his best year, and I’m not shitting on him. It just amuses me how people frame a narrative. Mahomes was great considering he didn’t have the top weapons, it was his first start, and it was what? 17 degrees? Alex wouldn’t have done any better given the weather and lack of fire power, and he’s got years of experience on him.
