For as much grief as we've given this D, they ended up allowing fewer yds/game than last year.

Slightly higher in points allowed, but if you look at each game individually, they held almost every team at or below what could've reasonably been expected (the obvious exception being the travesty vs the Jets). Could've done better against the Raiders and Texans, but Deshaun Watson was tearing defenses apart at the time, and he got two TDs on desperation bombs in garbage time.

They held opponents to 15 or less six times.

Yes, but people can't forget the Texans, Raiders, and Jets games. The last two of which never would have happened in 2016

No one should be upset about the Texans game. Watson was scoring TDs in bunches and dropped 50+ the week before. He was contained very well until prevent time.

My main point here is that the narrative that this defense was vastly inferior to last year's isn't true in any way. And it was without a key player all year.

Good thing they scored today and carried the offense. If they hadn't the boners would be flaccid.

Last years defense wasn't particularly good. But they were better in the red zone and forced a few more turnovers
