NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Chiefs are open to trading Alex Smith in the offseason.

The dots have connected to this ever since the Chiefs traded up for Patrick Mahomes in the first round of last April's draft. Smith has just one year left on his deal through 2018 with a $20.6 million cap hit, and the cap-strapped Chiefs can clear $17 million of that by shedding Smith. However, Smith is coming off arguably his best season as a pro and is still theoretically in the prime of his career at 33 years old. He could be the best quarterback on the market if Kirk Cousins sticks in D.C. RapSheet mentions the Browns, Cardinals, Broncos, Jets, Jaguars, and Bills as potential suitors for Smith, who could fetch the Chiefs multiple draft picks.

Exactly

He’s a good stop gap qb that can bring a down franchise back to middle of the road.

I highly doubt KC trades AS to Denver, and IF Andy did he would make sure he got his King's Ransom for sure. :hmmm:

Browns/Dorsey are the likely spot because they have the "King's Ransom" in draft picks !!;) Just depends IF Dorsey can get over his getting bent over by Clark/Andy on his firing in order to do a deal.

Alex is gone next year unless he gets us to the SB.

Highest QBR, career year, $17 million off the books and high draft pick compensation.
One time only deal. Can’t turn that down.

I'm trading him even if he wins the SB. You'll never be able to get the same return value as if that were to happen, and at that point he would have accomplished the ultimate goal anyways.

They're applying pressure on Smith... which he has reacted to well so far this year.

Yup, If they dont trade him after this season, they get zero return (Maybe a 3rd round comp pick)

Sell High baby.

Dont get me wrong, if the dude wins this team a Championship, I will definitely change my tune about him. And Im sure he would get a spot up in the ROH one day, but I still dont see any possible way this team keeps him around next season.

I hate Kevin Keitzmann, but I do agree with one thing he said recently.

It would not surprise me one bit if Clark made the call to keep Alex next year if we win the SB...or even get there. He’s a loyal guy and would probably make arrangements to have Alex put in the ROF and even take over on radio after he retired if he so chooses.

IF we had plenty of picks in this year's draft and our defense had very few holes then I see why you come up with this theory. BUT that ain't the case and Veach needs picks pure and simple to fill our many holes on both sides of the ball for that matter.

Maybe it's just me but I would consider him the best QB on the market even if Cousins comes out. From what I've seen I would prefer Alex over Kirk.

Depends on what you want. Kirk cousins seems to me a good qb for a team that wants to be respectable. But a long shot to be a super bowl qb. Alex Smith is perfect for a team who wants to transition the team to a winner then hand off to a young qb who can take it from there.

My guess is Alex comes to the Arizona Cardinals and so could Nagy or Toub.

There is going to be MORE interest in Smith than we realize. We should get a great pick(s) in return.

Ya that's my guess too. They seem to like old quarterbacks as they liked Carson Palmer so I think that is a good retirement condo for Alex Smith.

They have an excellent defense, weapons on offense, and Palmer is gone so Alex could fit right in.

to alex's bunghole to Tiger's tongue-ring

If Tiger's tongue ring could stimulate Smiff's anus to an extent he threw 13 playoff TD's I think the whole world would approve.

And it'd be the best experience Tiger's ever had. And Alex would see another $100M contract coming his way next year. (from a team who doesn't have a better player in waiting) :)
