This morning I found out that one of my friends passed away. Mike "Mick" McGraw was a Pulitzer Prize Winning investigative journalist for the Kansas City Star. Mike is from my neighborhood, and his younger brother Tim is one of my best friends. I've also done work for his other brother Dan.

Mick was a champion for good, a voice for justice and a friend of the friendless. That's not just rhetoric, it's truth. It's hard to find good men like Mick in today's world. I will miss him.

Story is here:

Bummer to hear that he had to go out right after watching that disaster of a game.

Here's what Tim posted on his Facebook this AM:

As big brothers go, mine cast a long shadow. He fought hard for the underprivileged, sought truth in the most unlikely places and helped set innocent people free, even if it took decades. He loved his wife beyond measure and helped her raise two fine sons. Yes, in our youth we all want to be like our big brother but mine set a loving example right up to the end. In hospice, a nurse tech said to him “I am just a nurse tech” and he quickly shot back “Never say you are ‘just’ a tech,” telling her that her job was every bit as important to the people she served - perhaps even more so - than those at the top. That was the way he viewed the world, and the world is a better place because of his work and love of family. We will miss him but his works live on.

Life is indeed short

Which is why I didn't kick the dog when we lost yesterday.

Got home, turned on the other game, and relaxed.

(Then came on here and yes, did get riled up again)

There was a really nice story about Mick's career on the KC Star's site. Good read:

KC Star had a celebration of life for Mike yesterday. I couldn't go because I have the flu. But they posted a very nice video of his career. Watch it and you'll understand why he'll be missed so much in KC.
