If Del Rio is indeed the favorite to become DC there, lets go and get Spagnuolo.

This. No thanks.

I still have a soft spot for him due to the shit show he inherited with the Rams, but his scheme cannot succeed unless he has an uberly talented defensive lineup.

Ill take someone from the Jim Johnson tree over someone from the Rex Ryan tree like we have in Sutton.

What, aside from a 2 year span in NY, has Spags done to make you think he would be a good defensive coordinator?

The fact that he's not Sutton. Its irrational, I know, but I despise that geriatric piece of shit like some do Smith on this board. I will take any and all ways I can to get him the fuck away from this team. 2 of the 4 worst collapses in playoff history is enough for me.

Shurmur gets the shit kicked out of his offense by the Eagles defense.

The very next day, he's hired by the Giants, who are in the same division as the Eagles.

Giants fans must be stoked.

Neither can bob Sutton’s or any DC in the history of the NFL.

Good hire. From what I've read, Dave gettleman is a short term hire. His job is to fix the team and groom a long term successor not to build an overnight champion. His biggest job is to help Eli close his career and groom Elis successor.

It's kinda ridiculous how many NFL fans think you can scheme your way to success with a lack of talent.

I don't say that to defend Sutton, but geezus. People think you can scheme your way to a top 5 D with scrub players as long as the DC is good.

It's just not the case. Never has been. Never will be.

IF KC had 3 bad ass pass rushers like Spags had in his limited time of success, Sutton would be shredding offenses.

Talent > Scheme

Was Sutton the DC of a historically bad defense?

I don't believe so.

Do you know who was?

Spags in New Orleans.

Combine that with a dish of hard candy, and we already have that with Sutton.

Talent > Scheme

There's a difference between permanently 'scheming' to make shit talent look notshit, and adjusting the scheme to minimize the effect of talent deficiencies that all teams have and that arise periodically from injury.

I haven't completely figured out whether Sutton's failures are due solely to insisting that people perform roles that they are ill-equipped to, or if it also involves a failure to disguise those shortcomings from the opposition. But it's glaringly clear the difference in execution between when Sutton has the people he wants doing the jobs he drew up, and when backups are trying to mimic the missing or injured primary's role for a short period.
