Yes, I know many around here couldn't stand his conservative style of play, but he dragged the team out of the basement and gave us something to hope for. He even gave us some exciting games here and there.

He's a great all-around guy, and I wish him the best.

(But let the Mahomes era begin!)

Well without seeing the actual deal, but assuming it is a second round pick at least, and something else....I will say this turned out better than I hoped for. I was wrong. I will admit. I thought getting alex was going to be a set back and we would be starting back at square one...but I do believe we used his 5 years wisely....and for that I salute you ...

Thanks Alex, you helped this team..

ALso, you did win a playoff game against HOU...which may have actually broken the curse on us.

But I have no appreciation for his time in KC. Glad it's over and we can move on.

I think Smith did the classy thing by not complaining or stirring controversy. KC was not the final destination from him, when you live in California/San Francisco you don't to keep living in a fly over state

He got a destination that he wanted evident by the big extension.

Makes you wonder if Vernon Davis played a part in recruiting him.

They're a tough/jaded market but it's nothing he didn't experience in San Fran. Coaching staff is perfect for him offensively. He's got an impressive receiver committee with Vernon Davis, Jordan Reed, Doctson, J Crowder, terrelle Pryor, Grant and dual threat RB Thompson. He and his agent went after this deal hard. It was this or Jacksonville.

Not a fan of his football ability, just my opinion, but the guy picked one of the best causes to beat the drum for in terms of working with kids who age out of foster care. Considering how tough life can be even under the best of circumstances, I can't even imagine what it would be like spending 18 years in a foster home and never getting chosen for adoption. That's got to really **** with one's self-confidence and sense of belonging. The fact that Alex recognized that and chose that as his charity says a lot about his character and compassion. He's a great dude, I just don't want him quarterbacking the Chiefs anymore.

You continue to prove how you know nothing about the NFL. Skins have one of the best pair of tackles in the league and a young Guard that just made the Pro bowl. This is why their organization has been skeptical about Cousins: top ten protection with a handful of weapons and he still couldn't elevate himself to the top.

Half way through the 2018 season you are going to be telling all the Redskins fans on their forums about how the OL is terrible and he doesn't have a single WR.

I don't mind giving Alex his props. Even in his worst times, he was never a Cassel. He was a great fit for Reid's style of offense and the way he protected the ball was underrated. He also played much better than I ever expected he could this last season, and its possible we would have never drafted Mahomes if he had performed that well a year earlier.

That being said, it didn't make sense to keep him on the roster when we have a QBOTF that needs to get some game time. Still, I'm glad he balled out last season so we could get a nice return for him :thumb: thanks Alex. Good luck in Washington, except when you are playing the Chiefs.

He wasn't elite, but he was good enough to win important games with a roster a competent franchise should be able to assemble. The talent was there in spurts, but we had a bad run of health fortunes at inopportune and important times.
We were very fortunate that Mahomes arrived at a time when we could acquire him and he is the first QB entering the NFL in a while that looks truly capable of what the fanbase expects a QB to execute.
We/re doubly fortunate that Smith left quietly for a team that wanted him sufficient to satisfy both him and us to acquire him.

Jordan Reed is never healthy. Vernon Davis is old and was never elite in the first place.
Terrelle Pryor is a complete head case and no way do they bring him back
Doctson was useless unless catching jump balls, which I've never seen Alex throw
Crowder is average. These guys aren't #1 receivers
Chris Thompson is average, and the rest of the RBs are hot garbage

Alex is going from a team with the leading rusher, best tight end in the game, a rising star WR, and a good pass blocking O-line to a team that is questionable at every offensive skill position.

I think it is safe to say he takes a big step back to lower middle teir QB this year.

I thought he actually might have wanted to go to the Browns (until I heard his comments today). Unlike the Chiefs, the Browns have drafted a damned 1st round QB in every draft for the last 100 years. They are the exact polor opposites of the Chiefs. Browns fan wants a retread proven QB. And they are 1 and 31! Smith could go there, win 8 games with his eyes closed and be considered a God without all the butt hurt that comes from a fan base frothing at the mouth to play their first drafted QB in a millennia. Anyway, thought there might be at least some appeal there for Smith, but apparently not. :D

I'm glad he is no longer the QB for a team I watch. I am a 49ers fan and my wife is a Chiefs fan so I have had to watch him for the past 13 years. I am glad I NEVER have to deal with his fanboys again, they are the ones who make the Alex experience awful. I think he is underrated and good QB but his fans make me hate the guy. I can't believe a QB of his level has such a cult following.

That being said thank you Alex for being a class act and also for playing ok football for the last 7 seasons. Thank God it is finally over.

He definitely kept his mouth shut when he needed to be a vocal leader. Nobody knows that better than Chiefs fans. I suppose the Redskins will learn about it very soon. That and just how many times a QB can check down in one game.

I tend to agree, and I hope he and his wife keep it going no matter where they live. :thumb:

And what will be your excuse when smith fails to elevate them to 'the top'?

To be honest, I'm not sure he won't. Juxtaposing the Redskins owner to ours, I don't think it'll take long for Snyder to let his employees know that Alex isn't allowed to check-down now that he's a Redskin. IOW, he might make sure that his employees know that, if needed, they'll take away the horizontal check-down/bubble screen options, and demand that he take shot vertically.

Remember, Snyder isn't a dead-weight owner like we suffer.

Again #1 rated QB despite a suspect offensive line and no depth at receiver

You keep bringing up the same stats over and over again.

Again, it was an outlying statistical career high season for Alex. And there were several factors which made that so.

We got really good QB PRODUCTION, more so than really good QB PLAY.

Our receivers led the league in separation per completion. Alex was 40th out of 41 QBs in percentage of throws into tight windows. He was also bottom 10 in air yards per attempt again.

He finally threw for over 3500 yards & 23 TDs (barely, wow 3 more TDs for an amazing 26 TDs!) mainly because Tyreek Hill is the best deep threat this league has seen in awhile now (Which is why Alex led the league in passer rating on deep balls...because Tyreek was WIDE open nearly every time), he had the best TE in the game, he had an elite running game, he had an above average OL, he had the new wrinkles of the RPO, and he had that hot 5 game start that skewed his numbers for the whole season.

And again, fuck your overrated, outdated passer rating statistic. If Alex was #1 or near the top in passer rating every year than that would be different...but he's not. It was an outlying year. And he still only finished 9-7 and was 0-5 in game winning drives. Shitty on 3rd downs. Shitty in the redzone. Shitty in the intermediate part of the field. Shitty when it mattered.

Also, Nick Foles led the league in passer rating one year...Plus he has more playoff wins this year than Alex Smith has as a Chief in 5 and just made a Super Bowl. FOLES >>>> ALEX

Thank you Alex for restoring us to a level of respect from the NFL. You took us as far as you possibly could and made us relevant again. But now its time to move on!

Your trade (checks #2, 1 and 5) is the beginning of this team going to the next level in the playoffs. A good corner to go opposite of Peters, $15m savings, and a draft pick.

If the other moves that we know need to occur happen, and we get more money from the release of DJ, Hali, Ford, et all, we can sign a LG, a Safety, and draft a few pass rushers, we could IMMEDIATELY contend again next year.

Again -- Thank you Alex for the last 5 years.

Looks like Kelce is due for a bit of conversion this offseason.

At the moment the trade was 'not news he was trying to hear' and he's taking until March to let the reality settle in for him.

Guess we'll have the same opportunity to decide whether he's an elite weapon or an immature distraction, depending on his acclimation.

And before people attack me for taking a stand, please note that I'm only reporting his words.

Now that Alex is out of the picture, I'd love nothing more than Kelce to pull off a mask 'scooby villian' style and say 'psyche! we've been so hamstrung by Alex, let the Mahomes era begin.' But it is what it is.

Alex Smith help pull the team out of the gutter, won games, made the playoffs, help teach his replacement(which is rare), arguably brought back as much in trade as it cost to get him. He did all of this without causing a single bit of trouble despite taking shit from many of the fans. Productive transitional quarterbacks like this are rare.

Alex Smith is made to look good on a team which has had a tremendous amount of talent. The defense has been top 7 in points every year except this last year (15th). The rushing offense has been top 10 all but one year as well (2016 - 15th). On the other hand, the passing offense was GARBAGE every single year except last year and it still ended with the same inevitable shit down the pants full half of football with 0 points and 30 something god damn yards.

Alex has been getting worse every year in the RZ. Luckily for him he had the best HR hitter in the game to elevate his numbers to his first 4k season ever, but still only throwing 26 TDs.

The Chiefs turn around has more to do with Andy Reid having some level of competency compared to the HC's of recent past. The team had the talent before Reid and the defensive core is still around but they lacked any kind of direction.

One minute people are attacking Dorsey because of a lack of talent. The next they are using tons of talent as a reason to be critical Alex Smith for not winning a super bowl. Make up your mind.

I look forward to similar posts from you any year that Mahomes doesn't win a super bowl while in Kansas City.

I've never attacked Dorsey for a lack of talent, but a lot of the talent carried over from the previous regime. Pay attention.

But I've said from the beginning that Dorsey was fucking awful at negotiating contracts or trades, which Pioli was actually good at.

This is the dumbest fucking board I've ever been on. Why do you guys constantly engage with people like Tigger or Clay? They're 2 sides of the same coin.

Thats ridiculous. Don't care what you feel about clay he brings a lot to the board compared to tigger. If you didn't enjoy gif'ed up I don't know what to tell you. I can disagree with clay about things but enjoy the content he freely provides. Tigger just doesn't bring anything that off sets differences.

There's a palpable rage from some guys in this thread. Lot's of anger from people who claim to be above it.

<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>What the fuck do you expect him to say?

"Ohh, thank god they finally traded a good friend of mine, that i hung out with 8 hours a day for 4 years to a different city."

It doesn't matter if he is excited for Patrick or not. He is obviously good friends with alex too.

Alex saved me a lot of money the last five years that I would have spent on the Chiefs if he wasn't such a cuck.

Thanks, Alex!
