I never thought about this, but is there a rule that you have to keep the same jersey number all year? If I was an NFL player, I think I'd change mine weekly to keep the opposition off guard.

There is. Remember when Chad Johnson wanted to change his name? He had to wait until the next year or something along those lines.

Rubber Sponge probably knows, my knowledge is too out of date

All I know is that the top Mahomes card I can find is somewhere close to 2k, and theres only something like 7-10 of them ever made... shit has become ridiculous

Google image Pat Mahomes rookie cards, there are some ****ing beauties out there... prism signature jersey cards, and some of the best looking are worth far less than the gaudy mfers

I've basically given up on the whole thing

In the 90s, new brands I'd never even heard of got hot QUICK then fell completely off the map 10 years later

And most of these new $1000+ dollar cards are probably no different IMO... worth a small fortune now, but in 10 years you'll be left wondering why in the **** you even bothered

Its become a joke, sad

SO....

Mahomes would be required to purchase all remaining stock of anything with his number 15 on it. This was actually brought up in an article I read recently about him possibly going back to his college #5 (which he couldn't have when he was drafted because Santos already had it).

This is correct

I heard him mention he liked 15 because he wore 5 and was picked 10

They are called Origin cards for a reason (they are an early set, like literally right after the draft). They were made before the numbers were officially chosen I think. You rarely (if ever) see an Origin rookie card with the actual player number

You can't change midseason (AFAIK) and if you make a change between seasons you're on the hook for buying up any existing merchandise of your previous number.

That card will sell from $900-1200 more than likely.

Many Mahomes autos have sold from $1000-2000 in the past month or so.

At $130? It's graded a 10, so probably. An ungraded can be bought for $70-80.

But there are better Mahomes cards out there.

The link Stryker posted will sell for $900-1300 at this time. Mahomes auto's #'ed to /25 and under, are a very hot card right now.

In most cases it is best to turn and burn new products. And that is exactly what I do 90% of the time. I have sold and sent cards to every state, Canada, Europe, Asia, Central America and it amazing the amount of money people spend on it.

I think in the card collecting world this is one of his highest peaks in value?

After he plays a couple years it's either going to go up or down. Usually down even if he plays well because there's only so many made, and every calendar year collectors are usually after the newest player cards on the market.

It really has become a turn and burn market model/business. But that's the same for Comics, Magic the Gathering, anything else that comes out with new lines of collectibles every year.

Tom Brady holds incredible value. HOF players that don't seem to sign much hold value long term well. Randy Moss is one of those players. Pete Rose, Nolan Ryan, Joe Montana sign so much that their values while decent, could be so much better. But Pete Rose has to sign a bunch or he doesn't eat.

So you wouldn't buy a DT cut auto with a piece of game worn jersey unless it was graded a 10?

Most rare cards will never grade a 10. Thicker stock, 100pt stock and above have a hard time grading out as a 10. But higher end, more valuable products are made with thicker stock. Lesser value cards tend to have a thin stock but grade out better than thicker card stocks.

PSA for Vintage grading.
Beckett for modern and auto grading.

Because those rookies weren't issued with autos. So for the big money guys who pursue registry sets, the non-issued auto's don't necessarily have a home, and are generally not as in demand as others.

Now you take a true rookie of any of those guys, get it in a PSA10 holder, and the value climbs rather fast.

You realize that new card products now all have authenticated autos on them by the maker?

All card makers will guarantee their autos are authentic. And they are. Forgery was a big thing the hobby had to move past. For the most part it has as well.

What the actual print run on that card? As far a I can tell the 2/2 in the listing is the pop count on how many have been graded Gem 10 by PSA. Was just wondering how many were made because the more cards that get graded 10 by PSA the less rare they become. I'm sure you know this already and i'm just curious. Here is all I could find:

2017 Panini Origins Football Autographs

Promising one on-card autograph in every box, 2017 Panini Origins Football is filled with first-year signatures. The main Rookie Autographs set tackles 40 of the top names from the 2017 NFL Draft with on-card editions. Skewing to a darker color scheme, Origins Autograph (#/99 or less) inserts showcase silver or gold ink. Passing Stars Signature cards naturally highlight the quarterbacks, switching the orientation to horizontal.

Same here. 2005 is the newest thing I have as far as loose/open cards. The majority of what I own singles wise is 80's and early 90's. I do have unopened that goes up until 2015 (Bowman's last year of printing NFL). And 99% of what I buy is PSA graded as far as singles go. But mostly, I am an unopened collector. That's what I put most of my pennies into.
