I'll explain it out to you, since you're pants shitting retarded.

The body of work is what he did on and off the field and the Chiefs felt they valued a trade return over paying him 20 million a year in an extension.

It doesn’t matter. They clearly weren’t having anything to do with Peters anymore. The compensation is already less than what he gives you as a player so it doesn’t make a whole lot of difference if they use it to move up for someone, CB or not.

If they want to use that to acquire a good corner who they might actually like and extend one day, I’m fine with that.

Thanks for picking that out.

It’s true. Look, I have no doubts that he got a richer deal than he maybe should have because it’s FA, but just based of what I have watched—he’s legitimately worth $13-14M per year, for sure.

Dude was beating some of the best CBs in the league with his routes last year, sometimes by a lot. His routes are sick. He’s worth even more to us IMO because he can put us over the top. Few offenses have ever had this much skill. They present quite the challenge.

I hope not only for our sake as Chiefs fans—but for his sake as a guy who hasn’t caught much of a break in his career that he absolutely kills it here. I want all of the haters who have dogged on this deal to eat their crow.

I’m not saying you don’t need a good defense to win it. You do.

But do you think the Patriots have 5 Super Bowls without Brady? Does GB have one without Rodgers? The Saints without Brees? It goes on and on.

You don’t need the ‘85 Bears or ‘13 Seahawks’ defenses to win a title unless you’re led by Trent Dilfer. You need a good defense and a good offense. The Chiefs might have a great offense, and that’s going to make their defense better. The D isn’t as talent deprived as some make it out to be.

My thoughts as well. Especially Sammy.

Did you see the play in the 4th quarter that clinched the game for Philly?

If the Bears offense never scored in Super Bowl XX, they would have lost to the Patriots 10-9

Yet Chicago won 46-10

You need offense

Veach talking about Dee Ford:

”Our intention is that we’re going to score a lot of points this year, and that Dee is going to have a lot of chances to get after the quarterback.”

This statement confirms the plan, the thinking behind adding Watkins. Just like SNR and I talked about in another thread, Veach is trying to recreate the Manning Colts formula. Build big leads with a lethal offense, let your pass rushers pin their ears back.

"Defense wins championships" is bastardized, shortened version of the Old adage that "Offense wins games, defense wins championships".

Meaning that you generally need build a complete team.

I think this is the idea. Of course we need to improve on defense, but how much better will our defense be when our offense can keep the ball and build leads.

Did you hear about his back surgery? Happened 3 months ago and is a 6 month recovery, so he should be ready by camp, but damn this shit is like Poe, but worse. He was held out of the combine with back issues.

IMO Veach’s statement alludes to a pass rusher being his first priority in the draft. It’s a deep DB class. Can probably get your CB and S in rd 3.

Ok in theory.

Then you play the Tennessee Titans, and they hit you in the mouth by staying faithful to the run game which our soft-ass, non-tackling defense couldn’t handle.

Hitchens is a start. I am still concerned about the DL and secondary however. A Logan or Poe return will do little to nothing to change the Chiefs’ toughness. Sheldon Richardson/Ndamukong Suh would add some grit and edge, but they will cost too much. You can only expect so much from the draft, especially without a first round pick. There will be a run on corners/DL early.

Veach has to work the phones and maybe make trades to get a tougher front, and a more competent secondary.

Same. He’s not playing any fucking games. He sees an area of weakness and he knocks it out. He’s no puppet. He’s very aggressive, young and brilliant. But, having said that, I want to see a draft from him. He’s been around all these guys and scouted so he knows his shit. I just want to see what he does without a first round pick. I think he’ll get back in if the right guy falls. I could also see him move up in round 2. Lots of QBs and RBs are going early in this draft. That helps talent fall to KC. Veach attacks areas of weakness like a snake strikes its pray. I love his open and candid responses. He’s also not a bumbling idiot like a lot of GMs are.

Also interesting to note that, as young as Veach looks/seems, he’s a mere 5 years younger than Carl Peterson when he took over the Chiefs GM position in 1989.

Here’s hoping he has the fervor to produce a great product that Carl did in those early days, but that it pays off in rings this time.

Your insight into this situation is limited and by most accounts his issues were behind the scenes. All you can do is establish your opinion on Veach and if you feel if he is a competent GM or not, and then from there assume that he made the right/wrong decision based on what he knows that the public simply won’t have access to.

The fact there wasn’t more teams interested is incredibly telling about Peters situation. You can continue to be upset about that move, but you’re ignoring all of the other positive moves Veach has made thus far, and in turn will have a less enjoyable time following the Chiefs and means you are knowingly making yourself more miserable on purpose. Which is stupid as fuck.

He’s a beast and plays hard. He would be a nice added piece to the Dline. They could use his physicality and nastiness that he brings to the table.

And then in the draft, Id try to trade into the 1st round for Vita Vea.

Imagine a DL of Jones, Vea and Suh? Holy sh*t! That would make a good foundation for a front 7 and probably one of the better defenses in the league?

Id go for Morris Claiborne and Kenny Vaccaro. I think the chiefs could fit both of them with the remaining cap space.

Claiborne was drafted to fit into the Rob Ryan defense in Dallas back in 2012. He fits the bill as a press man corner that the chiefs defense demands. He is 28.

Vaccaro has underwhelmed in NO. I think he could be had for a "prove it" type deal. As a side note, he was also drafted in 2013 when Rob Ryan was the Saints defensive coordinator. He is 27.

Both of these guys are Ryan scheme fits, and will probably be looking to work on upping their value for future contracts. They have been playing in defenses for the last few years that they weren't built for.

Maybe KC can get Julio Jones for a 2nd and a cheeseburger....oh wait, he's not playing for 1.8 mil.

Ask yourself this..has an all-pro ever been traded for essentially nothing while on his rookie contract? They are trying to paint him like he was killing kittens in the locker room.

Reading between the lines with everything Reid and Veach have said, they must feel the D will play about as well as a unit without peters. Who knows if it was only a psychological problem (maybe peters candy-ass play was a detriment to the other players' effort in tackling?), but they played a dominant game against the raiders week 14 without peters. It's the only explanation that would make sense.

Interesting part of Veach’s PC:

”We were looking at guys like Anthony Hitchens, who are in their last year with their team and not signed, with the thought that maybe we could make a deal.”

Goes exactly with my Carl Davis theory. Veach is going to go after these kinda guys and push the cap hit back.

Get em on their rookie deal for 1 year, a low cap hit the next year (1st year of extension) and then their major money years will look big now, but will look fair when it’s time to pay Pat.

Wonder how they're going to get back in the first round?

If they use the draft points chart, their 2018 2nd + a 4th and 2019 2nd would get them into the late first round.

Basically pick 54 + the Peters trade compensation.

That actually shocked me. I really thought we'd get more for him, but I guess the various teams know more than we do.

Look what Denver got for Talib - a 5TH! The league is changing.

The last pick of the 2nd rd has a value of 270 points. 54th pick has a value of 360 points.

Those combined equal 630 points. The 30th pick is 620 points

Yeah but if teams view the 2019 2nd as more of a 2018 3rd as some say, it is devalued

I think our best bet is to try and trade up into the top of the 2nd. Maybe into the Browns spot at 33 if someone falls out of the 1st round that we were looking at.

Nah. Let's see if we can work a deal with 31 or 32 so we can have the 5th year option.

If he had surgery 3 months ago and has a 6 month recovery window, how is he going to be ready 15 days from now and be 100% by April 1st?

GH, BPC-157, and TB-500.

Andy basically confirmed that Fuller and Nelson will start outside at corner, at least in base packages

Are we ok with this??

Interesting part of Veach’s PC:

Goes exactly with my Carl Davis theory. Veach is going to go after these kinda guys and push the cap hit back.

Get em on their rookie deal for 1 year, a low cap hit the next year (1st year of extension) and then their major money years will look big now, but will look fair when it’s time to pay Pat.

I'd love it but I just don't see how they let him go.

Yep. They're trying to rebuild on the fly so I doubt they cut or trade Collins.

No, but maybe the Rams will trade us Aaron Donald for Marcus Peters.

Hopefully Vita Vea slips

Ive read several mock drafts that have him going between 10-17. Dude had a good combine as well. I think his stock is rising. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a top 10 pick. I doubt he gets past 15th overall.

Nelson and Fuller will be fine, Amerson is a definite upgrade over any combo of Mitchell, Gaines or Acker. They don't have the one big star but they're better in the other two spots.

I agree about Amerson. What other spot are they better at?

I honestly think he was the main dude that wanted Pat.

I remember Andy saying how Brett used to always bug him on Fridays about how he needed to check out Mahomes’ college game from the week before, or something like that.
