Yikes. Didn't realize this guy was still even around. Really, at this point if you are a mediocre to bad tight end and you haven't been able to find employment with the Chiefs, it's time to fire your agent.

2017 stats

Watson: 61 Receptions. 522 yards (8.6 Y/R). 4 touchdowns

Harris: 18 receptions. 224 yards (12.4 Y/R). 1 touchdown

I think if KC just wants a veteran tight end who catches and isn't a headcase, this is a good option.

Not as exciting as drafting a young, athletic TE though

And that was with a Ravens passing offense that was a fucking mess.

2nd on the team in targets, 1st in receptions, 2nd in receiving yardage, tied for 1st in TD's.

He'll be a solid 2nd TE here, IMO.

Chiefs have tried drafting young TE in the later rounds before. Hasn't worked out. Sure, we could get a good one in the earlier rounds but maybe Veach wants to focus on Defense or Offensive line in the early rounds and knows he won't be able to find a reliable TE in the 4th round or later.

If Watson can perform like last year this is a great option. Playing in an offense with good receivers everywhere will even give the old guy more opportunities to get open, a luxury he'd didn't enjoy in Baltimore.

Just a thought

Because honestly, how often do we see the 3rd TE? More than most teams I'm sure we've seen Ross Travis and Orson Charles play..so this may be a move to allow that when all those guys play to have dudes they trust.

Demetrius Harris and Alex Smith were a bad fit.

It's more difficult for receivers to maintain focus with QBs that lack arm strength and throw with little to no anticipation, and you are asking a guy that has very little experience to grow into a reliable receiver with that QB.

Everyone benefits from an elite QB. I'm just saying that passing to the tight end is easier. Look at how well Tony Gonzalez did in terrible offenses. A play turns to crap and the QB panics and dumps it off to the TE. I'm not sure the Damon Huard looked at anyone else but Tony for entire drives at a time.

If Harris in disinterested, then it's his fault, not Smith's.

It doesn't matter if he wasn't a natural football player. That's 1 million dollars a year he's making. If he can't get motivated for that $$, boot him

The offense could use some veterans. There really isn't any leadership on that side of the ball right now. Mahomes will/should step up but we need someone to rally the troops. Offense could use a little veteran leadership where the defense needs an injection of youth.

Harris, like a lot of other, more experienced, receivers, made difficult catches, while dropping easy catches consistently.

Easy catches turn into drops because they start looking to make plays before they've secured the ball.

Throws that get there before they have time to think don't require that extended focus.

How about you shove a fork up your rectum and pull your brains out.

Go deliver some mail or something. Your football take on this particular topic is ludicrous. Harris drops passes because he isn't a very good pass catcher. He loses focus, and spends his time smoking dope instead of with a jugs machine. "losing focus" waiting for a pass to get there is something that maybe Pop Warner kids do, but not professionals. I'm no Alex Smith fan, but bringing him into this discussion was totally unfounded and shows a lack of knowledge about what makes an NFL receiver worth while.

Remember what happened in the Titans game in the playoffs after Kelce went down? That's what I think this signing is about. Plus, he can be today's Jason Dunn to Kelce's Tony G.

Veech is also making sure Mahomes is not one injury away from his offense stalling. We have 2 deep threats in Hill and Watkins, two TE's in Kelce and Watson, and 2 RB's in Hunt and Spencer Ware.

Watson is by no means a game breaker, but he's a competent receiver at TE. This signing will make it hellishly difficult to match up with the Chiefs in base personnel.

Imagine the Chiefs coming out in a 2 TE set with Hunt as the single back and Watkins and Hill at WR. Now you flex out Kelce.

If the D is in base personnel, Kelce is in a mismatch. If the D is in the nickel, you check to a run with Hunt.

2017 stats

Watson: 61 Receptions. 522 yards (8.6 Y/R). 4 touchdowns

That is astounding production for a 37! year old man on a mediocre football team, unreal... this guy is the salty old veteran this young offense needs

Great move IMO, gives us a reliable #2 who can block... and allows Veach to spend a low pick on some youngster who needs a year or two of polishing

0% chance Mecca is right that we keep Harris now, that dumbass is packing his bags as I type this out

I think the Watkins deal has more to deal with that than anything

Hope we never pin our playoff hopes to Ben Watson

Alex Smith is in Washington. Problem was solved already.

This, we don't even realize yet we have a whole different dynamic now. We're going from a check down QB to one that looks downfield for the play. Dat, Robinson , chesson will be getting balls.

Really hoping they get this done. Watson can still contribute and would be a steadying presence both at the position group and in the offensive huddle. Does a ton of humanitarian/outreach work and is one of the most respected players in the league. Some have suggested he may retire as his off the field work is hugely important to him. His twitter feed has little to do with football. Faith and family are important to this man.

We wait in anticipation.

I guess I would be more satisfied if he did one thing good. But he's not a good blocker who can't catch. He's not a sure handed tight end who can't block. He's potential.
