What kind of bad ass shades are you highly stylish ****ers sporting?

I just lost my most expensive pair (only $80). I'm about -2 and -1.75 and I'm finally going to break down and get some expensive prescription stylish sunglasses. Tired of being blind when I wear sunglasses & no contacts are not an option. I'm one of those people who can't touch their own eye.

Do not respond if you wear crocs, jean shorts, or like sunglasses like this:

I'm primarily an Oakley guy - have some Half Jackets (I think) for sport, Jupiters and Deviations for casual. All polarized. Not cheap, not crazy expensive, definitely worth it.

I had a pair of Maui Jims that I really liked, but left them at a bar a couple years ago, sadly.

FYI, if you have FSA or HSA, you can use that money on prescription glasses - that's how I got my MJs.

Sore subject for me. I’ve never owned a pair that cost more than $40, and never lost or broke any of them. You can see where this is going. I bought a stylish pair of wood grain Oakley’s for $200. I only had them for two months when I put them in my pocket and took off walking. They worked their way out and flew across the pavement, lens side down... scratches galore!!! I don’t think I’ve ever cussed more in my life! I’ll never pay that much again.

I don't have corrective lenses but this is what I wear. They aren't terribly stylish but they do several things for me:

1. Cheap. They get scratched to fuck in my environment.

2. Polarized, copper lens. It doesn't make things so dark I can't walk in the shop and trip over my dick because I can't see shit. Colors stand out better, and being polarized allows me to work in bright ass conditions and still be comfortable.

3. Safety glasses. They're not a replacement for safety glasses, but they work for that if I need them to. (Another reason they need to be cheap.)

Ugh. That sucks. Sunglasses are weird for me. I never remember putting them down or how I lose them. When I check the only possible establishment they would be, the lost and found never has them.

I like the look of most of those wood grain ones, especially the ones that have mirrored blue, green or purplish lenses.

I've owned 3 pairs of Oakleys over something like 20 years... don't mind the expense when they last 7+ years (and I lost one pair) and I use them practically everyday.

What exactly is polarized, just makes it so it's not as dark but still protective of the sun? Can you get polarized lenses that are still mirrored in a certain color?

I can NEVER find a pair that look good on me. I usually pick up a cheap pair. I've tried nice expensive brands and I lose or **** them up REAL quick. Cheapies last me a very long time.

The last pair of shades I really liked got left in a hotel room in Dodge City, KS earlier this year.

The stupidest thing was, I didn’t want to buy them because I was nervous. But, my wife said “you’re great with sunglasses, you’ve never lost or broken a pair. Just get them, they look great!” She jinxed me!!! They’re so awesome that I still wear them, but I get self-conscious when someone talks to me up close. Lol

Yes, and polarization reduces glare, especially on bodies of water.

It basically reduces glare, and improves visual quality through the lenses. In sunny conditions, it makes a big difference, and on water or snow, it's a game changer. I'll never buy non-polarized glasses after having owned polarized.

AFAIK, you can get mirrored polarized lenses, and can definitely get a variety of lens colors.

Maui Jims are easily the best I've had with very good build and optical quality. Plus one of the few left not made by Luxottica.

Often can find heavily discounted recently discontinued models at Costco but selection pretty hit or miss.

ESS Crossbow $75, modular parts so you can replace scratched lenses or broken nosepieces without buying a whole new pair.

Great for the job, frame's a bit bulky, but they sell slimmer models.

Maui jim and Costa del Mar make some of the best lenses.

I believe recently Costa del Mars parent company Essilor was bought by Luxxotica.

A lot of designer shades (clothing brands) are actually made by the same 3-4 eyeware companies, there are some interesting articles on this.

I personally wear Maui Jim, they have an outstanding warranty and repair division, and their optics are excellent.

Whatever you choose, get polarized lenses

I go through sunglasses like everyone else goes through underwear. I am buying a new pair every other week it seems. I never lose anything else but I lose sunglasses(and/or break them). I have several $5 pairs just to tide me over when I do lose my "good" pair. My good pair usually runs $20-$25. I can't spend more than that knowing I am going to lose the fuckers anyways.

I take my sunglasses pretty seriously. Have a pair of Costa Del Mar for social occasions and fly fishing:

https://www.costadelmar.com/dw/image/v2/BBDQ_PRD/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-master-catalog/default/dw70f27448/products/costa-sunglasses/magbay/aa11-shiny-black-blue-mirror-lens-angle4.png?sw=700&sh=350&sm=fit&sfrm=png

And I keep a pair of Torge from Amazon in the truck for high potential damage situations and everyday use:

https://i.pinimg.com/736x/3a/52/09/3a52096be7e82402f487066b4e24d23f.jpg

Costa Glasses: $300.00
Torge Glasses: $22.00

If I learned one lesson with good sunglasses its treat them like you do your clothes. Don't wear your Brooks Brothers khakis when cutting up a cord of wood and don't wear your Costa Del Mar sun glasses when mountain biking.

Back in the day when Oakley just started I would buy Oakley's because they had a lifetime warranty. I would send them in broken every other year. The last time I sent them in they sent a note. "Sir, we will no longer replace or repair your Lifetime Warranty Sunglasses. Please don't send them in anymore for we will not replace."

Since then I am a Ray Ban guy. Always Polarized.

I'm bald, so sunglasses are like hair to me. And since I spend no money on haircuts, conditioner, styling product, etc., I have a deal with myself where about every two years I go try on sunglasses and pick the pair I like the best, money is no object (since two years worth of all that hair stuff is quite a savings).

I usually go to Bloomingdale's or Sunglass Hut.

Last March I tried on about 30 pair and picked these Aviators. Turns out they're Gucci and $410. Holy ballsack, Goose! Well I say whatever, it's my deal to get the pair I liked best, so I stick to that and buy them. The guy goes to ring them up and turns out they were discontinued, so 55% off. HELL's YEAH. Holy crap, another CP learning thread.

I had no idea good sun glasses were so expensive. Guess I should have known as I used to pay $400 to $500 for prescription sun glasses.

Until this morning reading this thread I thought my "good pair" of "Maxx Retro" with a Cardinals logo on them was the shit. They were $25 at Sams on a special deal normally $50. Now that I googled them, it was BS, that is the normal price but they are discontinued.

My other pair is also Maxx from Bass Pro Shop $29 and they kind of suck. Can't play golf with them on.

I was going to say men's hair does not cost that much, since men can get shampoo for $2 and "styling" generally consist of a comb and a can of pomade that lasts 6 months. But I added up haircuts over a year and that can be $300-$400 depending on how often.

If anyone is in the market for a new pair of shades please give these guys a try. I have no affiliation what so ever, they're just that good. They kind of make you feel like an idiot for spending $300 on Costa Del Mar.

The only caveat I would give is get a little baby powder and sprinkle it around the edges because the padding had a little stickiness around the edges from glue.
