It's not flat in Salina, there are some hills. The Central Mall has a Kansas fish aquarium which is pretty cool for about 20 minutes. Cozy Inn for burgers. Kansas State University's aviation school is located there. Rock City is north of town and Mushroom Rock State Park is west of town and there's a cool wildlife park/zoo west on I-70.

Actually there is a lot to do there, or close to there. Don't let these bums bring you down. Been there hundreds of times, down home Kansas with a reputation because the truckstops are on an interstate crossing.

1) Its a few west miles from Salina but a must see

2) If you are traveling from the east be sure to stop in Abilene and drive down main street. Beautiful old town with amazing history.

3) Then be sure to visit the Eisenhower museum, another must see

Legend has it that in the 1950s, seven Gypsum teens died during a night of adventure.

The incident, which occurred just south of Gypsum along Donmyer Road, involved a series of three hills -- known as the Devil’s Washboard -- that get steeper as you travel south.

Today, about 150 feet from the road near the final hill, sits the rusted hulk of a wrecked car -- the remains from the teens’ tragic joyride.

The teens decided, just for fun, to take on the challenge of the Devil’s Washboard. They made it over the first two hills before crashing their car along the side of the final one.

As an example to other teenagers, police decided to leave the compacted car on a post -- just the way it was -- near the side of the road.

The story is told that sometimes, as you ride over the hills or near them, you can hear the teenagers screaming.

“This is indeed one of the stories that I believe to be true here, because my sons have driven over that thing and tell me they’ve heard the voices of those children several times,” Gypsum resident Alex Andrews said. “I don’t mess around with it because, first of all, I’m an old man, and second, I’m not too fond of ghosts. I would probably kill myself trying to get away from their voices.”

Truth! They have an annual blues fest, we saw Gregg Allman there. Coming up is George Thoroughgood and the Destroyers, Dave Mason, Old Crow Medicine Show and 3 Dog Night. It's a good venue with an awesome Italian Restaurant across the street.
Of course we know Lewdog isn't coming to Salina, that's just ridiculous.
Abilene is pretty meh although The Brookville Hotel makes the best fried chicken anywhere. It was originally in the town of Brookville until the water supply became contaminated and they moved to Abilene. Awesome food.

I don't think it was ever a White Castle, at least since 1977. They look like they've fixed the place up. There were about 6 or 7 stools inside and you would smell like onions all day. I think you could get 6 burgers for $2.

I am retired.
My fee schedule as of Dec 31,2017 was $225 per tooth.
Nitrous $150.
Everyone wants Nitrous. Insurance usually will pay little or nothing on Nitrous. Some PPOs do. Main INS in my area was Delta. Patients at the two hospitals gave blood sweat and tears for Delta, and they covered little. Dentists don’t negotiate with insurers. Our fees are cash, at least mine were, and we choose what patients we saw. I worked 3 1/2 days a week. No holidays. No weekend. No nights. Hire your own staff. Easy gig.

If you care for pizza, The Scheme is just up the street from the Cozy Inn. Open Thursday thru Saturday.
If you go to Abilene, the Brookville Hotel serves family style chicken and is very good.
It's right off I 70, Buckeye street exit.
If you eat at Cozy Inn, don't eat inside the restaurant unless you want to reek of the smell of fried onions.

I'm gonna have to roll with my boy O.city when it comes to dentistry. He's given so much great advice.

My dental practice was a cash practice. The insurance is yours. You deal with them.

Rock out with your cock out. You worked hard for it.

Easy gig.

Not me. I avoid dentists who push it too.

The zoo isn't bad, if you're into that kind of thing. Sometimes they have decent acts at the theatre (I've seen Lewis Black, Rodney Carrington, and a few others there)

I think a friend of mine from my HS days tried to kill a guy and leave him for dead just outside Salina.

And the strip club is right next to the stockyards, so there's that.

Actually the Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure Museum is pretty cool. You pretty much feel like walking around the world in less than an hour. Lots to look at and observe and don't forget to tip the Indian snake charmer.

Well we decided, after much debate, that we will be vacationing in Montana this summer instead of Salina. Extremely difficult decision, made even tougher after creating this thread.

Good thing is my college roommate is a dentist in Montana, so I can still get dental work and avoid going to Mexico for it.

Why Not?

No insurance Billay. Even routine stuff is a rip-off at the dentist. Everyone here goes to Mexico.

Nah. I had so much going on this weekend that I just caught bits and pieces of the draft. I bet that was cool, though.
