Wow, neither this guy nor McKenzie made it into my draft guide... guess I'll chalk it up to Veach and his crew knowing more about who is who than Athlon Sports

Ran a 4.38 at his pro day ...15 reps on the bench. 15 career interceptions...53 passes broken up

I like him. Screams future Nelson replacement more than anything. Looks like we best hope David Amerson is worth more than a bag of Cheetos.

This defense isn’t a one year turn around. Just stay patient.

We have more early picks next year. Seems like the intention this year was to try and bolster the run D as much as possible with a few other players for depth.

Pass rushers and cover corners seem to go early. We add them next year and we should be right on track to get this D respectable again.

Love this pick. Looks like he might have ball skills and instincts like Peters but without the attitude

My biggest hope from FA and the draft was that we would not need to depend on Amerson. Perhaps I am just wrong.

Best thing about Peters was his name.

Maybe the Amerson thing is Veach's way of telling himself from the beginning that he should just focus his attention to one thing at a time in terms of fixing this defense.

A one-year deal with him is just a band-aid, and it's not a very good band-aid. Perhaps we should have been looking more closely at longer term options.

As it is, we're going into next year with a TON of CB needs. Like, a billion dudes are playing on the last year of their contracts. If not to improve that position, we just need BODIES. Period.

Tramon Smith is a nice piece. It's a starting point. We need more, though.

call me crazy but i’m still very intrigued by ashton lampkin as well.

and i’m with you on amerson but he’ll be serviceable for a year. worst case he sucks but highly doubt he’s worse than mitchell and gaines. best case he does well moves on elsewhere and qualifies for the comp pick formula.

There is just no way that Veach doesn't do a trade to get a good CB. Going into the season with just Fuller, Nelson and Amerson is really risky and asking for trouble.

I really like this team going into next season but just add a good CB.

I think maybe the coaching staff are higher on Reaser and Lampkin than we realize. I haven't browsed the UDFA thread yet but didn't a couple of decent CB prospects go undrafted? Would be nice to add an extra body that way.

The thing that I like about picks like Smith and McKenzie is it kinda feels like they at least have a chance to exceed expectations in a big way. Most late picks like this, you're just expecting an okay backup at best.

Given that Smith comes from a small school and that McKenzie is changing positions, they have more question marks to their name but I think they also could be starters one day if all comes together right. Much like with LDT coming from Canada.

:hmmm: Really?

I have never heard of him- I really like his effort and playmaking ability on his tapes though.

We have guys on here that watch a ton of college ball- and are usually pretty spot on about talent. It is exciting when we get a prospect that gets a lot of praise on here.

Don't know much about him. He has real speed.

The fact that he played at a small college, combined with his small frame, is part of the reason he dropped.

There is some talent there but most of his picks are a product of some terrible QB play...
Think he's a project more than a 1st season starter....

I just watched the K-State vs. Central Arkansas game. I can't say that I'm impressed. He played mostly press man. He didn't have a very good game. His man frequently got separation. He seems slow to change direction. He did display good straight line speed. He also doesn't offer much in run support. The plus side is our FA WR from K-State (Pringle) torched Tre several times and looked pretty good. I'm sure it was just one bad game but I came away disappointed.

6 foot going 190 isnt small by any means, seems like a good base line for a CB... they cant all be Richard Sherman

His cartoonishly large helmet makes the rest of him look smaller.

6'0 190 and runs a 4.3 is a solid corner in the making.

I don't know man. IMO, this draft reeks of scouting arrogance. I hope these boys pan out, but a lot of our picks are "our secret little gem" type-players. All of them are under the radar type guys.

The combine actually measures their height though...

I'm 5'11. If I went to a combine and they said congrats son you're 6'1 you better believe I'm never telling anyone I'm 5'11 ever again for the rest of my life.

Chiefs signed sixth-round CB Tremon Smith to a four-year contract.

Smith is am experienced -- three-year starter -- out of FCS Central Arkansas who nabbed 15 career picks in college. He blistered a 4.32 forty at his Pro Day to put himself on the map. Smith could contribute year one.
