Zuckerberg's $16.8 Billion Wipeout Into Perspective

(Bloomberg) -- For many of the world’s richest people, losing $16.8 billion in a day would be a wipeout.

For Mark Zuckerberg, it’s just about a fifth of his net worth.

The Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB). co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer is set to see his wealth slide to sixth place from third on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index after the company’s shares lost of 20 percent their value in after-hours trading Wednesday, as the stock plunged following disappointing results.

It’s an evaporation of wealth so big it would have left the following multi-billionaires without a cent to their name:

Charlene De Carvalho-Heineken -- she is the biggest shareholder of the world’s second-largest brewer Heineken NV and has a net worth of about $16.7 billion

Iris Fontbona & family -- Fontbona is the matriarch of Chile’s richest family, which controls Antof@gasta (LON:ANTO) Plc (among the world’s largest copper producers)

Leonard Lauder -- chairman emeritus of Estee Lauder Cos Inc., one of the largest makers of cosmetics and fragrances globally

Zhang Zhidong -- co-founder of Tencent Holdings Ltd. and has a net worth of $16.2 billion

Elaine Marshall -- a director at Koch Industries Inc., the second largest closely held business in the U.S.

William Ding, chief executive officer of NetEase Inc. with a fortune of $16 billion

In fact, it would have wiped out 87 percent of the billionaires in Bloomberg’s index.

It's going to cost a lot to clean up the Facebook. Everything that they'll need to do to keep from repeating all of the mistakes that happened during the 2016 election cycle. The Trump cult's been slowly leaving over the past couple of years anyway. If they were quicker with it investors may not be losing as much, but we all know that Insane Clown President's crowd is a little slow most of the time

Facebook as a company has great cash flow. Great looking stock to investors.

It’s a one trick pony though. Not sure how long it’ll last.

I would be more concerned about the other $100B that was lost, most likely to regular middle class people that just had their portfolio take a HUGE hit, which can cause them to not be able to retire or forces them back into the workforce.

If it causes that big an impact, then they should've diversified more.

I took an annoying hit today, but it was something like 0.15 percent of my portfolio.

Yeah me too. I remember some of us were offended because our non-college friend was finally able to get a facebook page. My facebook hasn't been updated at all in about 10 years. I just let my wife tell me what is going on. I get on mine from time to time to sell stuff on our neighborhood buy/sell site.

I actually always liked Myspace better anyway.

Yankees have considered Mike Moustakas. See the asking price as high for now.

Yet again, Moore needs to reevaluate his asking price in trades. Take what you can get for Moose before it's too late.

With the way they constantly shit on their user base they really should have already. But we all keep coming back even though there's viable alternatives out there.

Yeah, I'd switch. But then again, part of the problem with Facebook is people putting up stupid stuff that's just copied and pasted. But I'm against them stealing personal information as well.

I wish there was a version of Facebook where you only got original content and nothing could be "shared" with you.

I've said this many times. I wish I could turn off all "Shares". But Facebook doesn't want that obviously, because it lowers the amount of content being posted and reposted for people to interact with, and thus data for them to mine about you. And the media outlets that have their articles and blog postings and such being spread via Facebook don't want that either.

The only people who dislike all the garbage posts are the users, who aren't paying, and who are the product anyway, not the consumer - so I don't expect it will change

MeWe.com is pretty much what facebook was 10 years ago. The only difference is you don't have a personal "wall", you just have the news feed.

The only thing I would miss is the ability to go "live", but that's not really much different that recording a video and then posting it.
