Chiefs Injury Update: Safety Daniel Sorensen Doesn’t Practice

Safety Daniel Sorensen didn’t practice on Tuesday due to a knee injury and is being evaluated, according to Head Coach Andy Reid.

Offensive linemen Dillon Gordon (shoulder), safety Leon McQuay (hamstring), linebacker Dorian O’Daniel (thumb), cornerback Keith Reaser (quad strain), wide receiver Sammy Watkins (hip) and running back Charcandrick West (concussion) – each of which have missed time recently – didn’t practice, though Reid mentioned that they were “all making progress and heading in the right direction.”

Additionally, safety Eric Berry (rest) and tight end Tim Wright (sick) didn’t practice on Tuesday.

Bartee was terrible. Sorensen UFA backup strong safety to one of the best in the league. How high did you expect the bar to climb?

I don’t think Sorensen is good by any means, but this doesn’t seem good. Not until multiple players between Murray, Watts, Golden, McQuay, or someone else proves to all be better. Hopefully this turns into a Spencer Ware injury situation where someone else steps up and shines. (And yes, I know aware >> Sorensen)

That's not it. This reaction is not about a compliment to him but an indication of how we feel about the others.

If Sorenson was not here because we moved his contact then the reaction would not be negative right now. If we are going to over pay him getting something out of it would be nice. That and the lack of depth is the disappointment here.

We certainly aren't screwed without Sorensen, DOD would have eventually filled that role, in time, and he will be an upgrade if he pans out.

The tangible hate for Sorensen is a mystery to me; he plays nasty, he may be slightly undisciplined regarding scheme, he is definitely overpaid, but don't blame the player for that, that's on management

I think the blame has correctly gone to Dorsey for the contract and the injury last year for his role. While he can play nasty at times he also misses many tackles that I personally associate with a nasty defender.

I think that both guys will replace him. The DOD reference was referring to when Sorenson plays LB in nickle defense. Watts will hopefully take the starting safety role and DOD will take the nickle role, thus relegating Sorenson to a lesser role, or, off the team altogether if he falls that far down the depth chart.

I hope your right, but Amari Watts is a career underachiever. I would not count on him to step up. ALWAYS something wrong with that guy and there was ALWAYS some reason that he didn't play as well as he could have. When he made plays - he made plays. BUT there were so many more plays he could have and should have made. His career at A&M was plagued by this. He got drafted because of the potential he has and showed when he did happen top make a play. You know it's never good when the word "potential" keeps being used with a player. He never filled it in college and my bet is he won't in the NFL either. We'll see...

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Kansas City Chiefs safety Dan Sorensen tore the lateral meniscus and suffered damage to the MCL in his left knee during a special-teams drill at training camp this week. Sorensen also fractured his tibia.

Kansas City Chiefs safety Daniel Sorensen will miss the first part of the regular season after suffering a knee injury that requires surgery, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Sorensen had surgery at the University of Kansas Hospital and was to return on Saturday to camp at the Missouri Western State University to begin his rehab.

Sorensen will miss at least the start of the regular season.

"There is no timeframe other than we're going to examine Danny at six weeks," Chiefs athletic trainer Rick Burkholder said.

The 28-year-old Sorensen became a starter last season, his fourth with the Chiefs after being signed as an undrafted rookie from BYU. Sorensen replaced Eric Berry, who missed all but the season opener after tearing his Achilles tendon.

Berry also did not play in Thursday night's preseason opener against the Houston Texans, but he was back at practice on Saturday. Berry and Eric Murray were the first-team safeties. Murray, a fourth-round draft pick in 2016, played in 14 games for the Chiefs last season.

Yeah this isn’t a 8 week deal. This was the same injury that JJ Watt had against us in early October that ruined his season and made him rehab in the offseason.
