It was never a popular opinion but I watched every play that guy had as a Chief and I dont remember a single clutch big defensive sack or play in his career. Surely there are one or 2.

Dont remember any big plays with the Viking either.

He was like a dude who hit a HR in the top of the first every other game and was never heard from again the rest of the game. Seemed like 90% of his sacks were in the 1st half of games.

DJ and Eric Berry have had more memorable and impactful plays than Allen did.

Meh. We ended up getting Jamaal Charles.

Think about Back to the Future, and how he has the picture of his family that changes depending on what he does in the past.

Except you have a picture of Jamaal Charles. And he just disappeared.

Smooth move McFly.

Was Jared Allen gonna help Damon Huard, Tyler Thigpen or Matt Cassel win games without the benefit of Branden Albert or Jamaal Charles?

Nah.

In a vacuum, it's a good trade if you give up one guy and get multiple years of production out of two other guys.

They traded Allen, who had 85 AV after leaving the Chiefs for Charles, who had 70 with the Chiefs, and Branden Albert, who had 33. I can't remember if the third man was Cottam or Morgan, and they had 3 and 2 AV, respectively.

The Chiefs won the trade.

He had a game-sealing sack against the Chargers during a season where they were good and we were bad. I was there. May have been his first or second season.

We had about 80 hundred threads about that trade at the time. Sure glad to see another one. :(

He was about two beers away from getting a long suspension from the NFL and the Chiefs ended up with a haul for him.

All of it meant nothing. No titles so all of it was a waste. I love Charles but no titles so who cares. That's what the NFL thinks.

Again not sure that qualifies but yea I'm sure he had a few of those. But nothing epic.

I mean I can remember big game changing plays in big games by DJ, Berry, DT, etc...but none by Allen.

Maybe due to lack of big games he was in?

Doesn't that work both ways? I mean Allen and Charles can compare rings.

Charles was much more of an impact player though. I mean who won more games for KC?

Well, then, you could say that about 100s of Chief players for the last almost 50 years.

I was livid when Allen got traded but ended up being a great trade and it was fun watching JC and Brandon Albert when he was playing well.

Yes, but then we traded Javier Arenas for Anthony Sherman, who is still playing today, 21 years after Gonzalez was drafted.

It's pretty well accepted that when a person says won a trade they mean that the team got the better end of the deal. Charles was a stud(pay attention Nandi) and Albert did well. We did very well in that trade.

The NFL is a very top heavy league when it comes to actual titles. Other sports get a bad rap but the NFL, even during it's height of "balance" over the past 20 years is still very unbalanced.

The MLB, for all the crap it gets for not being balanced, has had more winners during that time span. Even a team that lives pretty close to our beloved Chiefs.

All that being said though, that's a very interesting stat.

The Chiefs won the trade.

Assuming Charles would have been available 3 picks later, and knowing he was first of the 3rd round selections, it's reasonable to believe that he would have been the pick (at 76) without the trade. Allen was traded for Morgan, Cottam, and Albert. Chiefs lose.

The three teams who would have had to pass on Charles were Minnesota (Peterson), San Francisco (Gore extension), and Carolina (Selected Stewart round 1, DeAngelo Williams 3rd year)

True, but the MLB has a different structure, in which individual players are less valuable

The refs can be bad but it's still KC's fault for not being a tad more successful in the playoffs (1afccg appearance since 1970)
